[3.4.2] kwifimanager causes kicker crash
Hello list, This morning, when firing up my trusty KDE, I was seeing repeated kicker crashes. Some searching (and testing with a blank .kde) led me to the faulty package: kwifimanager. For some reason, as soon as I include the applett in kicker, it crashes. I've temporarily removed the kwifimanager package to be able to use KDE, but I'm pretty stumped - it worked perfectly yesterday, the only thing I've done since is remove -dev packages... The backtrace is useless. Anyone any pointer? KDE 3.4.1
Hi, Is this repo suitable for Sarge (http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.1/)? Or it is also made with gcc 4, so I need do a total update from Sid repositories? Thanks in advance! -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi Nate - I installed the dbus, hal, and pmount packages and Konquererdynamically displays icons for my memory stick and camera upon insertion and removal. Now, I would like these icons to pop up on thedesktop instead of just in Konquerer. I know KNOPPIX does someinteresting stuff with UNIONFS and I'm not sure if that is involvedhere. just recently I figured that out for myself and documented it for my files. Have a look here: http://www.svenkrahn.de/linux/my_debian/ar01s03.html#d0e659 Based on hal, udev, and hotplugging I use the usb-storage script of hotplug to copy the icons on my Desktop (on plugin of camera, stick etc.) and remove the icon upon unplug. This even allows me to display different icons, e.g. camera, USB stick, external drive. Not sure if this is the 'usual' way but it works fine for me. -- Best regards / Mit den besten GrüssenSven Krahn

Removable media icon(s) on desktop?
Hi All. I transitioned to KDE 3.4.2 yesterday evening (I just couldn't wait anymore) on my Sid partition--so far very good! Based on my limited experience with KNOPPIX 3.9, I know that KDE can dynamically add an icon to the desktop when a memory stick or other USB mass-storage device is inserted. I installed the dbus, hal, and pmount packages and Konquerer dynamically displays icons for my memory stick and camera upon insertion and removal. Now, I would like these icons to pop up on the desktop instead of just in Konquerer. I know KNOPPIX does some interesting stuff with UNIONFS and I'm not sure if that is involved here. Also, it seems as though Konquerer uses an internal mount point as I was unable to find a traditional mount point with the mount command. How then might I be able to access the device such as through Midnight Commander? Thnaks! - Nate >> -- Wireless | Amateur Radio Station N0NB | Successfully Microsoft Amateur radio exams; ham radio; Linux info @ | free since January 1998. http://www.qsl.net/n0nb/ | "Debian, the choice of My Kawasaki KZ-650 SR @| a GNU generation!" http://www.networksplus.net/n0nb/ | http://www.debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". The only "main" showstopper for me this morning were Apollon and Synce-KDE, but I suppose they shouldn't be too difficult to build manually. cheers Giacomo On 07/09/05, Isaac Clerencia <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > On Wednesday, 7 September 2005 12:03, Shai Berger wrote: > > Serge said: > > > Almost all KDE packages have been upgraded except koffice and kdevelop3. > > > > Does this mean that, for people not using either of them, it is now safe to > > dist-upgrade? > There are other packages still not transitioned (kaffeine, kmyfirewall, ...), > just run a dist-upgrade and check carefully if it removes some of your used > programs. > > Best regards > > -- > Isaac Clerencia at Warp Networks, http://www.warp.es > Work: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> | Debian: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > > -- Giacomo Lacava

I have no idea about an mailing list, but you can check the incoming queue to see what is due to be uploaded to the debian ftp: http://incoming.debian.org/ As I can see now, kdewebdev will enter the main repository in the next upload - which is the last package i'm waiting for :) Jan -- If your mother knew what you're doing, she'd probably hang her head and cry. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Yes, I guess it is considering the number of successful reports. But maybe it's wiser to wait for an official announcement ? KDE 3.3.2 => pb with Printing using CUPS v1.1.x and LaserJet1100
Hi all, not sure this is the proper NG but I couldn't find any CUPS related NG so far... I do have a strange issue with my wrong configuration for sure! I have a printer (HP LaserJet1100) connected to my SMC7404WBRA printer connector. The only working way I get something on the printer was CUPS by using KDE print manager from utilities menu, selecting Remote LPD queue with the IP of the router (mine was 192.168.2.1), then the name of the queue (LPT1). Following the wizard I selected the proper printer I guess here some extract from the content of the file named HPLaserJet1100(CUPSv1.1.x).ppd in /etc/cups/ppd : ... *FormatVersion: "4.3" *FileVersion: "1.1" *LanguageVersion: English *LanguageEncoding: ISOLatin1 *PCFileName:"HPIJS.PPD" *Manufacturer: "HP" *Product: "(HP LaserJet 1100)" *cupsVersion: 1.0 *cupsManualCopies: True *cupsModelNumber: 2 *cupsFilter:"application/vnd.cups-postscript 0 foomatic-rip" *%pprRIP:foomatic-rip other *ModelName: "HP LaserJet 1100" *ShortNickName: "HP LaserJet 1100 hpijs" *NickName: "HP LaserJet 1100 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended)" *PSVersion: "(3010.000) 550" *PSVersion: "(3010.000) 651" *PSVersion: "(3010.000) 652" *PSVersion: "(3010.000) 653" *PSVersion: "(3010.000) 704" *PSVersion: "(3010.000) 705" *PSVersion: "(3010.000) 800" *LanguageLevel: "3" *ColorDevice: False *DefaultColorSpace: Gray *FileSystem:False *Throughput:"1" *LandscapeOrientation: Plus90 *TTRasterizer: Type42 *DefaultResolution: 600dpi . well so far up to now, everything is fine and even the test page during the wizard is definitely correctly printed. Even twice but still from wizard. UNFORTUNATELY, any other pages printed afterward from any apps, including KDE print manager just print something like %!PS-Adobe-3.0 then line feed %RBINumCopies: 1 and a lot of junk on probably many pages... lpstat command give me this : #lpstat -t scheduler is running system default destination: HPLaserJet1100(CUPSv1.1.x) device for HPLaserJet1100(CUPSv1.1.x): lpd://192.168.2.1/LPT1 HPLaserJet1100(CUPSv1.1.x) accepting requests since Jan 01 00:00 printer HPLaserJet1100(CUPSv1.1.x) is idle. enabled since Jan 01 00:00 Data file sent successfully I'm looking for any assistance or good pointer for me to investigate further. Feel free to ask any further information. In advance many thanks, JL PS: Running Debian customized Linux GX200 2.6.8jlcv10 #1 SMP Thu Jun 23 17:09:40 CEST 2005 i686 GNU/Linux -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: mouse cursor
Hi Serja, Serja wrote: After uninstalling gnome the default white mouse cursor disappeared and now the cursor's color is black (the classic X-style cursor). How can I bring the white cursor back without installing gnome? I do not know what the default gnome cursor theme is, but you could try to install one of the following packages and see if you like the style: crystalcursors (has a white style and some other colors) artwiz-cursor (black and somewhat futuristic) big-cursor (I have never tried this one) Personally, I like the white crystalcursors theme very much. http://www.kde-look.org/ has more X11 mouse cursor themes available.
