Odd, Opera 8.51 gave me "This page is not Valid HTML 4.01
Strict!" and listed three errors.

For information, there's a discussion about the new slashdot design bug in
kde-devel mailing list.

I think that's a mistake. The slashdot.org site maintainers are the
ones who made these errors, it is up to them to fix them.

We can rule out "ignorance" on their part, so it's either apathy or
arrogance.

Well they obviously don't like people trying to validate their html..

Has anybody ever dared contacting slashdot to encourage them to make their
site valid (X)HTML? www.w3.org contains megabytes of argumentation in favor
of good design..

Best,

Well, according to konqueror developers the design is really buggy, and it's
the site's fault, but they will try to workaround the bugs to get it
displayed properly.

problem with new slashdot.org design

2006-06-07 Thread Christophe Prud'homme
Dear Debian-Kde'ers

would you have also a problem with the rendering of the new slashdot.org
design in konqueror ?

I described the problem here:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128738

here is a copy/paste:
==
Version: unspecified
  Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Platform: unspecified
  Reporter: Christophe Prud'Homme
  Assigned to: Konqueror Developers
  Votes: 0 (vote)

Version: 3.5.3 (using KDE 3.5.3, Debian Package 4:3.5.3-1
(testing/unstable))
 Compiler: Target: x86_64-linux-gnu
 OS:Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.16-1-amd64-k8-smp

slashdot.org just changed its design. konqueror has problems
 showing it properly:

1- some of the menus on the left are aggregated at the top left of
the page
2- if the window is resized, then the menus appear properly at
their rightful place.
3- if the windows was resized and menus ok, and I click on a new
menu item, the same problem described in (1) occurs and I need
to resize like in (2) to correct it.

Since the rendering bug gets fixed when the konqueror window
is resized, my conclusion is that it is a konqueror bug.

Best regards
C.
