Bug#398182: Crash: Probably during connected imap autopoll

2006-11-12 Thread Andrew Vaughan
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.5.5.dfsg.1-1
Severity: important

Kmail sometimes crashes. It seems to be happening if I click on a new
(ie red) message whilst kmail is auto polling my home imap server.
I'm using the connected imap protocol). It seems more likely to happen
(maybe only happen) if my home server is receiving new messages.
(It might be limited to the case where the mail folder I'm reading is
receiving new messages/has received new messages since the last autopoll.)

This is semi-reproducible for me by
  i. Stopping fetchmail on my home server for a couple of days to let new
messages accumulate
ii. Loading up my home server so that kmails autopoll takes approx 5 secs.
iii. Setting fetchmail to grab small batches of messages every few minutes.
iv. Setting kmail's mailbox autopoll interval to 1 minute.

Below are 2 KCrash backtraces. (I have 2 more similar ones, plus two more
crashes today that KCrash failed to capture).

One thing to note, if I run kmail from a terminal, I get one or more lines like
kmail: WARNING: Trying to close the selected folder open-folder-name -
ignoring!
shortly before/at crashing, that don't seem to occur during normal usage.

Thanks for your work on Debian.

Andrew V.

Update: After writing the above, but before sending, I discovered that I
can also produce a similar crash by deleting messages during an autopoll.
See kmail-backtrace-5 below. The kmail: WARNING: Trying to close the
selected folder ... - ignoring! message is still present.

Andrew

Bug#398132: kspread crashes upon opening OOo generated OASIS file

I have an OOo generated OASIS format spreadsheet, which I'm trying to
open with kspread. Command kspread demot.ods produces just a *huge*
(1710, to be exact) number of messages like

 QTime::setHMS Invalid time -1:-1:-1.000

After these, kspread segfaults. I attached the backtrace.

Could you install the debug package koffice-dbg and kdelibs-dbg and resend
a backtrace (the current one does not contains usefull information).
If you can, also sending the faulty demot.ods file would be great.

Thanks,
Olivier

The KDE screensaver has been unreliable on my workstation ever since I
set it up. Under Woody and Sarge I would have to restart it every couple

What do you mean by unreliable ?
Please, describe what you experience and what you expect to see.

When I do spell checking in a greek text, written in UTF-8 encoding, the
aspell-el spell checker highlights parts of two adjacent words and not a
single word. The wrong word is nearby and one of course can visually
locate it and correct it manually. However, this is not convenient at
all.

I spell checked the same text file with the command

aspell -c --lang=el-GR --encoding=utf-8 test.txt

from the command line and this worked perfectly.

akregator 1.0-beta10-1 fails to mark Use custom fetch intervals
checkboxes as checked when it is restarted. All feeds using custom fetch
intervals have to be edited manually on each restart to turn the custom
intervals back on.

The attached patch corrects this; it is based on a slightly munged patch
included in the discussion of upstream bug 97986:

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97986

FWIW, the above fix seems to have been committed just after the
upstream release of 1.0-beta10.

Please consider incorporating this patch into the next update for
akregator.

Thanks!

that you can't get access over a proxy, so that from the control panel inside
Netscape you must rename the hardware on the level-97 gadget of a tower for
digiting from a head on the forward.

Bug#398236: libqt4-gui: No Anti-Aliased fonts since 4.2

2006-11-12 Thread Manuel Bilderbeek
Package: libqt4-gui

Since 4.2 got in testing, my Qt based apps don't show anti-aliased fonts
anymore. Please check this out, it looks so ancient now... Thanks.

It doesn't seem to occur on all fonts, though. But the fonts in the
menus are not AA anymore, at least. (E.g. in Qt Assistant.)

Bug#398286: ICQ: You are not allowed to add yourself to the contact list.

2006-11-12 Thread Marc Haber
Package: kopete
Version: 3.5.5-2
Severity: normal

In a period when I was using gaim to access ICQ, I have added myself
to my contact list to see which status my account was set to. This
works.

Since migrating back to kopete, I get at every program start the error
message You are not allowed to add yourself to the contact list. The
addition of my-uin to account my-uin will not take place.

I'd like this to be possible with kopete.

Greetings

Bug#398287: kopete: ICQ: add contacts to server list list popping up at every program start

2006-11-12 Thread Marc Haber
Package: kopete
Version: 3.5.5-2
Severity: normal

I have been using kopete to access ICQ for quite a while. For a period
of three months, I used gaim instead.

Since I have migrated back to kopete, at every program start I get a
dialog box titled Add contacts to server list, containing a list of
UINs and the question The following contacts are not on your contact
list. Would you like to add them? and an Add and a Do not add
button.

Whatever I do, the dialog comes back every time, and it always
contains the same UINs. It doesn't care whether I marked an UIN and
clicked on do not add the last time, it always shows the same UIN
list over and over.

Greetings
Marc

So, even though it's a valid signature, and even though it *does* write
the decrypted file to disk, it pops up the message saying it failed.
This is confusing.

In addition, the Sorry - KGpg - Details window is not resizable, and
very hard to read in its default squished state.

Bug#398294: kgpg: Sign File option on KDE popup menu has no icon

2006-11-12 Thread Todd A. Jacobs
Package: kgpg
Version: 4:3.5.5-1
Severity: minor

When you Right-Click - Actions on a file in Konqueror, you see two KGpg
options: Encrypt File and Sign File. The encrypt option has a lock icon
to indicate that it's related to kgpg, but the sign option does not.
They should both have icons, and (preferably) be closer together in the
options menu instead of spatially separated.

Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.2-3
Severity: normal

I encrypted emails with OpenPGP/MIME. After sending the emails nothing
showed up in outbox or sent-mail. The recipient did not receive any
of my messages.

I restarted kmail in konsole and saw the following output when sending my
emails:

kmail: WARNING: Kleo::KeyResolver::addKeys(): Something went wrong.
Didn't find a format for recipient

Notice: There was an existing name and an email address in the error mesage
above. I replaced it with recipient

The difference between the observed and expected behaviour is the
following:

- error messages should be visible at the GUI
- messages where OpenPGP/MIME fails should not just disappear but stay
  in outbox or somewhere else

Genius, I'm not able to explore with a microprocessor, how does it work?

From DOS and from DOS you neither can ever disable a device, nor should ping

need not to install the digital floppy disk to boot a OpenGL editor on the
pointer to the line over the LCD IDE hard disk.

In order to display local characters correctly, konsole should

When starting konsole, the bash shell is invoked as a non-login shell, so
/etc/profile is NOT read!

Is this the correct behavior? Earlier versions of testing distributions did in
fact read the /etc/profile file...

You can set wether konsole should run bash or bash -l or how konsole should
run your shell in the settings.
And I don't see the big differnce in the environment, as kde should have
sourced it on login anyway.

Bug#398306: remember view mode for each directory

2006-11-12 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

just tried dolphin [1] the other day and it had one really neat feature
(besides its slick interface): It remembers the view mode for each
directory. Say, you have a directory with many pictures, you will switch
to the image view mode, and if you later visit the directory again,
dolphin will remember that and automatically use the image view mode.
In konqui, if you switch the view mode, all directories are affected,
which is rather annoying.
For konqui, this feature would be even more useful than dolphin, because
konqui can (and does) embed a whole lot of kparts (e.g. CVS, SVN etc.).
Having konqui automatically switch to the kdesvn view mode, if I enter
one of my SVN directories would be extremely useful.
Atm. I have to switch to the SVN view mode manually after entering such
a directory, and have to switch back to the normal mode if I leave the
directory again. As this is quite cumbersome, I rarely use the
specialised view modes.

Cheers,
Michael

 /etc/xdg/menus/kde-applications-merged (from

 one file: kde-multimedia-music.menu.

It should at least contain a file calles kde-essential.menu

kdebase-data does contain that file but it apparently wasn't installed

I've extracted the file from the .deb and copied to
applications-merged/ and to kde-applications-merged/; kcontrol is
working again :)

Bug#397073: konsole: not reading ~/.bashrc

2006-11-12 Thread Bruce Sass

 hmm..

 What is a session program?

A program started via the Session menu,
maybe I should be calling them Konsole Applications.

How do I set up a session program?

- start konsole
- select Configure Konsole from the Settings menu
- select the Session tab
- put a descriptive name in the Name field
- put a text mode command in the Execute field
- put a path to cd to in the Directory field
- choose an appropriate Icon, Schema, etc.
- hit the Save Session button

You'll end up with a .desktop file in ~/.kde/share/apps/konsole, e.g:
--- ssh to bms.desktop ---
[Desktop Entry]
Cwd=
Exec=ssh -X bms
Font=
Icon=konsole
KeyTab=
Name=ssh to bms
Schema=
Term=xterm
Type=KonsoleApplication
--
which shows up in the Session menu as New ssh to bms and starts a
SSH login with X-forwarding on the host named bms.

Is it something for konsole to run _instead_ of bash? or?

hmmm, ya, sure...

which was fixed by updating my xorg.conf to use the new
/usr/share/fonts/X11... directories.

Now, I can start X with twm and kdm works fine, but once I start my kde
session (from startkde or kdm), kde spends a *really* long time at
initializing system services, then eventually loads what looks like a
kde desktop with kicker running and everything, but the kmenu doesn't
respond to clicks and right-clicking the desktop does nothing.

Any ideas?

I found a slow start-up being due to fc-cache not having been run since
the last font installation/update.

Try running (as root):

fc-cache -v

I have no suggestions on kmenu and right-clicking on the desktop not
working as they've always worked for me. I'm running sid, so I do lots
of small (daily) updates and look for help if/when anything breaks.

Fwd: PATH variable in KDE

2006-11-12 Thread Piotr Trochim

Hello

I've read several threads on this subject and NONE gave any solution
to my problem.

Here it is - I use Debian 3.1 with KDE installed (standard package).

I've just (yesterday) moved from the good-old Slackware, and I'm a
bit green to the way Debian sets up everything.

In my previous system, when I wanted PATH variable for ALL users to
contain some new entry, I simply edited /etc/profile file and voila...

Not so easy here. I checked and /etc/profile is never even read!!! EVER!!!

I mainly work in windowed environment KDE provides, so I started
digging on that and found out that two scripts:

/etc/kde3/kdm/Xstartup and /etc/kde3/kdm/Xsession

are executed when kdm starts up (the first one as root, the latter one
after the user logs in).

The first script contains a PATH variable definition, but it DOES NOT
export it. I tried to hook it up anyway, but doesn't work.

---
And now to the point:
---

1. What scripts and in which order are being executed during KDE startup?
2. Where can I change the contents of PATH variable so that the change
persists when I log in as any user (this imples that .bashrc is not an
option)?
3. Why isn't the /etc/profile script used?

Thank You very much for Your help :)

Best regards,
Paksas

flash plugin on x86_64?!?

2006-11-12 Thread André Wöbbeking
Hi,

I need a 32bit chroot enviroment for two things:
1) flash plugin
2) OpenOffice

2) is now (Sid) available as native x86_64 package but flash is not
(yet). Other distros like SuSE solve this problem with their bi-arch
solution. Couldn't we do the same in Debian? All we need is:
1) lib32qt
2) kdelibs32 (at least some parts of it)
3) konqueror-nsplugins32
4) and of course the flash plugin

I hope that all dependencies of 1) and 2) are in ia32-libs.

What do you think?

Cheers,
André

From the comments by the bug handlers it seems nobody is going to want to look
further into my problem - a common response is upgrade to 3.5.2 and see

You may need the kdebase-dbg kdelibs-dbg packages - they provide the
debugging symbols for the kdebase packages and kdelibs libraries.

Kwallet + kdesu?

Hi,

I'm wondering if it is possible to use kwallet to take care of the root
password when it is (or would be) requested by kdesu, and if so, how.

The googling I've done suggests it isn't currently possible.

In that case, I will file a wishlist bug (unless anyone has a reason I
shouldn't).

John
