Bug#519430: kwin: Windows open on wrong monitor and maximize only on both monitors

2009-03-28 Thread Martin Henne
Package: kwin
Version: 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

When I open an appication window (e. g. konqueror), they
open always on the left monitor of my 2-monitor-xinerama
setup. Before updating, I was able to configure the
behaviour where windows open or maximize in the control
center using the multiple monitor settings.

These settings are now ignored. There's no way now to
force an appication to maximize a window only on one
monitor or to initially start on a specific monitor.

Even worse, in my case applications usually open on the
  second monitor.

Because of this behaviour, maximizing windows
became completely unusable to me. I have to resize and
move every windows to get it maximized on only one screen.
This slows down my workflow incredibly.

The Start plugin button works again

Konqueror has an option to by default not start the plugin but offer you a
button to start it manually. Nice for blocking adverts slowing down Konqueror.
The thing is, it was broken for a long time but works for me now.

Plasmoids themselves should not retrieve weather forecast data. This is done
by weather dataengines (plasma_engine_weather.so) which are in plasma-
dataengines-workspace package. This way all plasmoids can use the same
sources. Those custom plasmoids will be never be official KDE ones if they
reinvent the wheel and retrieve data from custom sources themselves. The goal
is to integrate a new better source weather dataengine hence all weather
plasmoids can use them.

I have to agree though that the current selection of datasources is really
poor. On the other hand, kweather (KDE 3) was almost perfect (expect it didn't
provide forecast data).

Thanks for the clarification.

Seems like the opposite problem, though: I don't want to block, I want
to use Flash: for uploading files (SWFUpload), and playing videos
(Flowplayer, JW FLV Player etc.) on my private website.

Both work great with Iceweasel, but not with Konqueror.

Kind regards,

Felix

Re: New plasma-widgets

2009-03-28 Thread Manolete, ese artista...
Hi

Well, then plasma_engine_weather.so is to blame. As I said before I hope
future versions will include more meteorological services. I know it would be
absurd to include every national meteorological service on earth but at least
to have 4 or 5 by default and let the users to add the ones they prefer by hand.

Kweather intrigues me a lot. According to its name we can suppose whta's its
utility, but I haven't been able even to launch it by any means :-/. Does it
really work? I guess the programmers and the packagers of every distro did test
it before publishing, no? But even in the KDE forum nobody could give an
answer, everybody suggested weather plasmoids as alternatives but it seems
nobody knows what's the deal with Kweather for KDE4. Dark misteries of
computing...

I installed kweather in kde 3.5.x by apt-get / aptitude then in the
panel menu, select add applet to panel, and kweather appeared as an
option then I added Adelaide to get the weather.

I have no idea how it is supposed to be launched in kde 4.x.

Arthur.

In KDE4 applets are added to the panel in a similar way than 3.5; the problem
is that Kweather doesn't appear among the available applets (yes I have
installed it, hehe). It seems no to work at all.
Maybe for 4.3? Only gods know, hehe.

Thanks for your help anyway, :)
