Bug#525540: kwallnetmanager: looses pass key strokes when opening the wallet
Package: kwalletmanager Version: 4:4.2.2-1 Severity: important Hello, Just upgraded from KDE 3.5.10 to 4.2.2 from unstable. As per my older configuration, the KDE password widgets are printing 3 dots instead of just 1, whenever a key is pressed. However, this has now become horribly slow. It takes around half a second between pressing the key, and the dots showing up on screen. Worse, key strokes are lost altogether when if I don't pace between key presses. For some reason, this only seem to affect password widgets - clear text input works just fine. Opening the wallet when KDE starts has become a huge pain. Admittedly, this is probably a bug in an underlying library, though I have no idea which. Bug#525621: Help for KDE 3 apps no longer works (patch included)
Package: kdelibs Version: 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 Severity: normal Tags: patch Hi, Now that debian has switched to KDE 4, the standard Help - Handbook menu entries fail for KDE 3 applications, typically with an error such as Could not find service 'khelpcenter'. If you wish to explicitly reproduce this bug, you can install regina-normal, run the program regina-kde, and try Help - Regina Handbook. However, I expect the same thing will happen for almost any KDE 3 app. It seems that KDE 4's help centre is indeed able to read KDE 3's docbook help files; it's just a matter of pointing KDE 3 applications to the correct help viewer. The ubuntu people fixed this in jaunty by patching KApplication::invokeHelp() -- the relevant patch is kubuntu_98_fix_khc_invocation.diff, and I have included it below. I would be grateful if debian could apply this to its kdelibs packages also -- this would be a great help for the usability of KDE 3 apps, by restoring easy access to documentation. several package related bugs in kde4.22
Dear package-team, I discovered several bugs in kde4.22. Due to the kde4-maintainers, these are debian related bugs within its packages. Could you please take a look at it? These are the descriptions of the bugs: 1. kickoff-widget: Using the kickoff-menu and want to logout the session, the computer is not logging out, but shutting down completeley instead. This happens also for transferred users (kde3 - kde4), as at fresh users, too. Seems a bug for me. --- 2. Screensaver does not unlock. I suppose, this is a rights problem by the application, which starts or unlocks the screensaver (I had the same problem in kde3 to, where I had to set the sticky bit for root). In kde4 things are handled in an other way, so I am a little bit lost, where to look. --- 3. HAL or solid is not mounting new cdroms or DVD-Roms. Let me please explain: New CD-Roms or DVDs are detected and shown as new hardware. KDE offers me to look with them using dolphin or digicam. But when I choose dolphin, the dolphin window is empty. I checked, and discovered, the new cdrom is not mounted. So hal does not mount the drive. I do not know, which package or application is responsible for this, so if you know, please add a bugreport. --- I am likely willing to send all reports as single ones, but in this case I need your help, to know, which applications are involved. Thank you for reading this, your attention and your help! Best regards Hans-J. Ullrich

KDE3 apps with KDE4 khelpcenter / kfmclient
Hi, I have a KDE3 app that I maintain, whose help menu has a couple of items that rely on helper programs: (i) the usual Help - Handbook menu entry tries to open the handbook in the standard way using khelpcenter; (ii) there is an extra Help - API Reference menu entry that opens some pre-installed HTML documentation using kfmclient. With the new KDE4 packaging in both debian and ubuntu, I was losing hope that I could keep these menu entries working properly, but I've found that whilst none of them work everywhere, all of them work *somewhere*. Specifically: - In debian sid, the kfmclient entry works but the khelpcenter one doesn't (Could not find service 'khelpcenter'); - In ubuntu jaunty, the khelpcenter entry works but the kfmclient one doesn't. (Could not find service 'kfmclient'); - In ubuntu intrepid, neither works. Does this mean there are just some magic packages that I need to have install that will make it all work? (And, if so, which?) If not, do we know how ubuntu has made it possible for khelpcenter4 to work with KDE3 applications? If so, might it be possible to apply that patch to debian also? I can work around the kfmclient problem easily enough by patching the source code (all the app wants to do is display HTML in a browser), but the khelpcenter issue is more of a problem. Thanks - Ben. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Hi, I am testing KDE 4.2.2 on my Toshiba Portégé R500. I tested some KWin effects like shadows, alpha and cube desktop and it seems to be relatively fast. The cube desktop effect rendering is running at 10-15 FPS, but I is usable and I think it's normal for the 945GM. I am using Linux 2.6.26-2 from unstable and there is no special configuration in xorg.conf... -- Laurent Léonard Le samedi 25 avril 2009 21:35:56, emikaadeo a écrit : Some informations: HP Compaq nx7300 notebook $ lspci | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) $ uname -r 2.6.29-1-686 xserver-xorg 1:7.4+1 xserver-xorg-core2:1.6.1-1 xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.7.0-1 Tried with different settings in xorg.conf (AccelMethod: UXA, EXA MigrationHeuristic: greedy) Still can't get good performance with KWin effects My actual /etc/X11/xorg.conf : Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device Option AccelMethod UXA Option MigrationHeuristicgreedy Driver intel EndSection -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: KDE3 apps with KDE4 khelpcenter / kfmclient
Hi again, On further digging, it looks like the ubuntu people have fixed the khelpcenter problem by patching kdelibs directly. The patch is quite small (in KApplication::invokeHelp(), start khelpcenter directly instead of using dcop). I'll file a bug for this against debian's kdelibs shortly. In the meantime, if anyone knows how debian has fixed the kfmclient problem where ubuntu hasn't, I'd still be interested -- I haven't yet worked out why this works in sid but not jaunty. The relevant function that's being called is KApplication::invokeBrowser(). Ben. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
