Bug#550174: kmail: blocks at startup because 'Communication problem with kmail , it probably crashed.'

2009-10-08 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: kmail
Version: 4:4.3.1-2
Severity: important

Hi,

I'm having a small issue with kmail but it's getting annoying.

I don't run KDE, I use gdm as a login manager, and an awesome session. When I
log on, I start kmail, and it has started to fail systematically a few weeks
ago. The following is displayed in the terminal:

a...@lacapelle:~$ kmail
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/libkdeinit4_klauncher.so
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/libkdeinit4_kded4.so
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/libkdeinit4_kbuildsycoca4.so
kbuildsycoca4 running...
kbuildsycoca4(18377) KBuildSycoca::checkDirTimestamps: timestamp changed:
/etc/xdg/menus/debian-menu.menu
unknown program name(18365)/: Communication problem with kmail , it
probably crashed.
Error message was: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply : Did not receive a
reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired,
or the network connection was broken.

I have to relaunch kmail to get a window. On the second launch, I get the
following messages:

a...@lacapelle:~$ kmail
a...@lacapelle:~$ kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/kio_imap4.so
unknown program name(18502)/ kdemain: IMAP4::kdemain
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/kio_imap4.so
unknown program name(18503)/ kdemain: IMAP4::kdemain
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/kio_file.so
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/bin/knotify4

A possible cause for this could be a timeout set to someting too small, which
could go unnoticed for people using KDE because they already have a number of
KDE-related processes running. Since I'm not using that environment, launching
these extra processes takes some extra time and causes the timeout to occur.

I'll be happy to help reproduce and fix this.

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

The Weather widget in KDE 3 was able to show all weather stations from

Budapest, Hungary is now not available, although data is here:

In the end this is your decision. We do not mind, if you just open
upstream bugs upstream and not CC the Debian bts.

Hi!

Thanks for asking. Unless it is a matter that requires urgent attention from
the Debian packagers, filing them in KDEs BTS only is preferred.

It is not bugs that we will fix in debian, but bugs that should be fixed by
the application developers who looks at KDE BTS and not anywhere else.
By filing these bugs in both places, the Debian packagers need to remember to
close the bugs as well (which we sometimes forget, as finding the right ones
among the ~1000 open bugs we have to search thru not always works)

Urgent attention would be bugs that in Debian BTS would be filed with serious,
grave or critical severities.

Package: kaddressbook
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The kaddressbook package is currently not installable with Debian sid. When I
attempt to do so, I get the
following error message:

zitpcx6184:~# apt-get install kaddressbook
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kaddressbook: Depends: libgnokii4 but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

When I attempt to satisfy the libgnokii4 dependency, I see the following:

zitpcx6184:~# apt-get install libgnokii4
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package libgnokii4 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package libgnokii4 has no installation candidate

The Debian page for this package[1] suggests that libgnokii4 is only available
for MIPS platform.

[1] http://packages.debian.org/sid/libgnokii4

It seems that libgnokii5 is available for many platforms[2], so one possible
resolution of this issue would be to
link against libgnokii5 rather than libgnokii4.

Cheers,

Paul.

Bug#550295: ktouch: Letters are cut off

2009-10-08 Thread Walter Landry
Package: ktouch
Version: 4:4.3.1-1
Severity: normal

When displaying the letters that you type, the bottom 30% of the characters are
not displayed. This is true whether or not the keyboard is being shown.

The version in Lenny seems to work fine.

Bug#550297: ktouch: Colemak letters not marked correctly

2009-10-08 Thread Walter Landry
Package: ktouch
Version: 4:4.3.1-1
Severity: normal

When running a lesson with the Colemak keyboard layout, the keyboard is
displayed correctly, but which key to type is marked wrong. For example, if
the next letter is r, ktouch highlights the p key. The p key on Colemak
is where the r key is on QWERTY. So it is as if ktouch has changed the
display of the keys, but not its internal mapping.

The DVORAK layout works fine.

the patched source compiled successfully, but I haven't tested it yet

As soon as I can get to my build machine, I'll test it. If anyone else wants

Can someone confirm bug #549209 in kover?

2009-10-08 Thread Valerio Passini
Hi Everybody,

As from subject, I have found that kover, a small application for KDE4
to create booklets/covers for various kinds of CD cases is really slow
to start (about a minute in my case). I'm trying to help solving it but
it's difficult to understand if it is just a misconfiguration: i.e. even
with a fresh user it behaves weird (sometime it's fast, sometime it's
slow again in starting).
All you have to do is installing kover from unstable and launching it
and eventually confirm the bug report sending more info. Many thanks

Valerio

KDE3 apps under KDE4

Is there any easy way of configuring style and colors of KDE3 apps (like

 Regards,

No. When we still had separate ~/.kde and ~/.kde4 directories for the
configuration files, it was possible to change manually the
configuration files in ~/.kde in order to change the look of kde3
apps. Now it is not possible because the same files are used by kde4.
As a result, kde3 apps read kde4 settings, but since the options are
incompatible, they revert to defaults. For example when they read
widgetStyle=oxygen, they cannot find it and they load plastik, which
was the default in kde3.

George

Jobs in Notifications and Jobs never complete

2009-10-08 Thread B. Alexander
I have noticed that larger jobs that I run in KDE, never seem to complete.
I'm not really sure how to explain it, so let me give an example...

I opened Konqueror and did the two pane thing and fish://'ed to a remote
machine. I dragged a large directory over to be copied. Not only did the
copy not complete (I ended up rsyncing it by hand...Twice as it turns out),
but the notification icon is still showing 0/1 with the spinner, and
according to it, the job still has 8 days 9 hours remaining. It's sitting
here spinning like it is working, but I know it isn't because I rsynced it
by hand, destroyed and recreated the remote filesystem and rsynced again.

My two questions are why did the job not complete? It just seems like it
went for a while then lost interest. No errors, no alarms no nothing; and
what do I need to tweak/restart to clear the notification and jobs icon?

Thanks,
--b
