Package: umbrello
Version: 4:4.1.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

start top. Look at Xorg CPU useage. Then start umbrello even with an
empty presentation. Xorgs CPU useage bumps at 95%. Even selecting an
arrow using the upper right button takes 40s. quit umbrello. Xorgs
CPU useage goes down to 3%.

Bug#566251: backtrace

2010-03-05 Thread Julien Bigot
Hi,

I have a similar problem here.

By using run --nocrashhandler --nofork in gdb I managed to get a backtrace.
It seems there is an infinite recursion leading to a stack overflow.
See attached backtrace and offending config file.

By moving the config file around and restarting korganizer I got a working
solution bu it still crashes when accessing the korganizer kpart from inside
kontact.

If this is of any importance, I have recently reconfigured akonadi completely,
including removing and recreating all akonadi resources.

Best regards,
Julien

Package: libc0.1
Version: 2.3.6.ds1-10
Severity: important

Hi,
I installed Debian GNU/kFreeBSD from the netinst CD, and then want to install
some -dev packages, which forced the upgrade of libc0.1, the start of KDE and
KDE apps became significantly slower (I suspect that even some other apps,
but if so, not too much). After some investigation, I found that the apps are
slow with libc0.1 2.3.6.ds1-10 and quick after downgrading back to the
version 2.3.6.ds1-9.

I didn't find anything suspicious in logs (only some warning like 2.4 kernel
w/o ELF notes support, which was however present even with the -9 libc)

thanks,
Vaclav Juza

P.S.
Sorry for not using reportbug, it crashed on gnu-kfreebsd system when I tried
to use it for creating this bugreport.

This is not a bug, but normal behavior with -dev packages.

Re: Bug#570369: kdm in squeeze is unable to handle kdm themes which worked in lenny

2010-03-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Petter Reinholdtsen]
So either we had a bug in debian-edu-artwork which failed to trigger
a problem with kdm in lenny, or the sematic of the THEME setting in
kdm changed between lenny and squeeze. Only the kdm maintainer can
tell what the intended behavour for the THEME setting in
 /etc/default/kdm.d/ was.

I found a more accessable source for this information, in
URL:help:/kdm/kdm-files.html#kdmrc-greeter:

  Theme

The theme to use for the greeter. Can point to either a directory
or an XML file.

Empty by default.

As this was the definition for Lenny, it should be the same for
Squeeze, or init.d/kdm should be rewritten to handle the THEME
variable used in /etc/default/kdm.d the same way as in Lenny. A
simple test to see if the path is a directory or a file and rewrite it
to a xml file if it was a directory should work.

I suspect thought that the problem can be caused by something in our
XML file, and would welcome help with reviewing it from someone with
knowledge about the format. Check out the debian-edu-artwork package
in unstable and testing for the theme in question.

Happy hacking,

Re: Bug#570369: kdm in squeeze is unable to handle kdm themes which worked in lenny

2010-03-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
I came across another clue in
URL: http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase-workspace/kdm/kdm-themes.html ,

which state that the theme directory need to include a file
KdmGreeterTheme.desktop. Our kdm theme include a
GdmGreeterTheme.desktop file instead. Rename it to
KdmGreeterTheme.desktop and changing 'GdmGreeterTheme' to
'KdmGreeterTheme' in the file made kdm stop rejecting the theme. The
buttons are still broken, but I guess that can be fixed by changing
the xml file.

Next, I tried to do the same with the kdm theme using the Lenny kdm,
and the theme still work. I guess kdm became more picky about themese
between KDE 3 and 4.

Perhaps we can use the same theme for gdm and kdm if we provide both
KdmGreeterTheme.desktop and GdmGreeterTheme.desktop and a XML file
that both gdm and kdm understand? Would be nice to have the same
theme for kdm and gdm.

Happy hacking,

Yes, seems that package index of the repo do not know these ones either:

It doesn't seem to want to remove digikam, just keep the libraries

So maybe no need to rebuild Digikam. And Amarok also appears to be still

use currentversion+steigerwald1 or something like that. e.g.
if the version in debian is 1:3.4-4, use 1:3.4-3+steigerwald1

then you
a) have it at a higher version than what's currently in the archive and

b) have it at a lower version than what's next in the archive, and you
will automatically get a upgrade when possible
c) have it tagged as 'this is my local rebuild' even in the version

Happened here too: And I guess it might be related to:

But then I tried with:

shambhala:/etc/kde4/kdm grep UseTheme kdmrc

UseTheme=false

and it didn't work either.

Anyway, via startx it works nicely so far.

Nepomuk tells on startup:

Nepomuk Semantic Desktop needs the Virtuose RDF server to store its

And on first time I tried to activate the strigi indexer, it could not be

use currentversion+steigerwald1 or something like that. e.g.
if the version in debian is 1:3.4-4, use 1:3.4-3+steigerwald1

 then you
 a) have it at a higher version than what's currently in the archive and
apt wont try to replace it with what's in the archive
 b) have it at a lower version than what's next in the archive, and you
will automatically get a upgrade when possible
 c) have it tagged as 'this is my local rebuild' even in the version

Thanks, Sune. Digikam still works after the update, so thats good enough
for now. Hmmm, expect that it crashes on exit. Well may look into this

Didn't have this here.

I suggest sticking to the upgrade instructions on the webpage, it seems
you got an other order of package installations due to your apt-get

If all else fails,

dpkg --force-depends remove kde-window-manager kdebase-runtime-data

might work. (Handle with care, maybe wait a bit for probably better

4.4.1 SC: Updating System Configuration endless loop

2010-03-05 Thread Michael Schuerig

When I do anything that triggers an update to the system configuration,
say, choose a default File Manager application, the usual Updating
System Configuration progress dialog pops up. However, it only goes up
to 70% to 90%, then jumps back to about 5% and starts over. Endlessly.

Akonadi and Strigi are doing there work in the background. Is it
possible they're interfering in some way?

Yes, but did not yet manage to get any query results in dolphin. Will

Hello,

Thank you for feedback. Recently fixed:

1) kdm does not start bug. Fixed in kdm 4:4.4.1-0rc2. Please upgrade the
whole kdebase-workspace.
2) pkg-kde-archive-keyring v2 is properly indexed and installable now.
3) You no longer need to use exp-snapshots in place of experimental-snapshots.
I suggest switching /etc/apt/sources.list back to experimental-snapshots.
4) I don't know why some of you need to use aptitude -t exp-snapshots rather
than aptitude -t experimental-snapshots. Both seem to work.
4) kde-l10n 4:4.4.1-0rc1 is in as well. kdesdk will follow later today.

 Hello,

Thank you for feedback. Recently fixed:

 1) kdm does not start bug. Fixed in kdm 4:4.4.1-0rc2. Please upgrade
 the whole kdebase-workspace.
 2) pkg-kde-archive-keyring v2 is properly indexed and installable now.
 3) You no longer need to use exp-snapshots in place of
 experimental-snapshots. I suggest switching /etc/apt/sources.list back
to experimental-snapshots. 4) I don't know why some of you need to use
 aptitude -t exp-snapshots rather than aptitude -t
 experimental-snapshots. Both seem to work.
 4) kde-l10n 4:4.4.1-0rc1 is in as well. kdesdk will follow later today.

Thanks. All confirmed.

Only issues for me currently are:

1) addressbook due to Akonadi not working (posted seperately)

2) Digikam crashing on exit - but I should be able to fix this myself by
rebuilding should that cause any problems.

Some problems here:

1) Klipper crashes when starting up.
2) Kmix crashes when starting up.
3) network-manager-kde does not work -- Network management disabled.
network-manager has started up and is running, but I have had this
issue since kde 4.3.
4) wicd-gtk (my workaround for the previous error) now asks for my
password. Even though my user has sudo privileges, I get that it could
not connect to wicd's dbus interface. Will investigate further later.

Other than that, seems to be running pretty good!

Where do I report my klipper and kmix crashes?

Thanks for all the effort! It's already looking good!

KMail: doesn't delete (all) messages from POP server, retrieves them multiple times

2010-03-05 Thread Michael Schuerig

KMail 1.13.1, from KDE 4.4.1, for me doesn't properly delete mails from
the POP server after retrieving them. It also does not recognize that it
has retrieved these messages already and as a consequence, I get
multiple copies of each and every message. Apparently, this doesn't
happen without a bound, but I've seen cases where there were 5 copies of
the same message.

Did you actually restart your kde session? And did you upgrade
anything else apart from kde? The network-manager and wicd issues seem
unrelated to kde.

PS: Sorry for the previous private email I sent you, that was an
accidental click on the wrong button.

Thanks. Thats much better than my wget approach ;-).

It doesn't seem to want to remove digikam, just keep the libraries

 libkdcraw7
 libkipi6

 at their currently installed versions.

So maybe no need to rebuild Digikam. And Amarok also appears to be still
 there. Let's see. ;-)

 Ciao,

No, it does remove libkdcraw7 for libkdcraw8, and in the process removes
digikam and kipi-plugins (aptitude broken package resolution)

1 and 2 work in my work computer too. Will investigate better when I

 Do not use it yet.

What do you mean? Not to use network-manager-kde? What would you recommend then?

Yes. Some stuff crashed when upgrading, so not to restart the session
was not an option.

 And did you upgrade
anything else apart from kde? The network-manager and wicd issues seem

The system is mostly plain Debian Sid, so probably other stuff got
updated. netwok-manager was not working before (the client, as wired
ethernet used to work fine). The wicd client started to ask for my
password, which it didn't before the upgrade, and I don't remember
having upgraded it -- I might be wrong here, will have to check when I
get back home.

No problems. Happens to the best of us! :)

KMail 1.13.1, from KDE 4.4.1, for me doesn't properly delete mails

consequence, I get multiple copies of each and every message.
Apparently, this doesn't happen without a bound, but I've seen cases
where there were 5 copies of the same message.

Apparently, the problem disappears when I enable pipelining for mail
download. This is a cure, hopefully, but doesn't explain anything.

[4.4.1] How to use desktop search?

2010-03-05 Thread Valerio Passini
Hello,

First of all, thanks to the developers for giving us the chance to
preview it and test it before it comes in the unstable repositories and
to everybody for starting testing and fixing things.
I'm playing a bit with KDE 4.4.1. and trying to search stuff among my
PDFs. I can launch krunner and type a term inside to search for it and
it works, but krunner is too small to show all the results in a
comprehensive manner. Is there any other way to do a desktop search?
Thanks for your suggestions.

Valerio

You should use Dolphin. I tried, hit maybe bugs, but got the job done.

A package of digikam rebuilt against experimental-snapshots is available at:

I will upload this fixed digikam to experimental once KDE 4.4.1 his
experimental.
