Bug#756411: Reason found
Hello, more or less by accident I have found the reason. The distorted appearance comes from setting Composit-Type to Xrender and Qt-System to Nativ. All other settings work. Especially for desktop effects OpenGL is needed. Markus

Switching the phonon backend from gstreamer to vlc seems to stop Ogg/Theora support on the above test page, although it dose not change the support for H.264/MP4 videos. But there definitely seems to be a relationship. I tried Rekonq and the support on http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html is identical to that of Konqueror using Konqueror's WebKit mode. So it does not seem to be something Konqueror specific. Then again, Arora, another WebKit based browser, works and supports all three files on testpage mentioned above. Arora is linked against Qt5 and Qt5WebKit, while both Konqueror and Rekonq are linked against Qt4 and the latter one also against libQtWebKit version 4. So it really seems to be QtWebKit4 related. Sorry if I'm doing something wrong, guys. I'm new to mailing lists. You might end up seeing a previous message by me; just ignore that. And you mean 768MB of RAM? My iBook G3 with 64MB of RAM struggles hard to run KDE3. I really doubt you can pull off even the Linux kernel on 768KB of RAM.
