11.6.0 KDE Live can be downloaded at:
https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/11.6.0-live+nonfree/amd64/iso-hybrid/

The Bookworm weekly and daily builds are currently on hiatus due to lack of
a maintainer.

I'm downloading a nightly build of kde neon, but download speed is

Usually when there is a strange color issue it is due to accessibility
functions being enabled mistakenly. Check to make sure you do not have
blind user contrast enabled.

I am running bookworm with no issues. When in doubt you could try a clean
install:
https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/weekly-builds/amd64/iso-dvd/

Bug#1029810: dolphin / ark: Error when unpacking RAR archive while unrar is not installed

2023-01-27 Thread piorunz
Package: dolphin
Version: 4:22.12.1-1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: pior...@gmx.com

Dear Maintainer,

How to reproduce:
Make sure unrar and unrar-free packages are NOT installed.
Right click on some RAR file, Extract -> Extract archive here

* What was the outcome of this action?
Dolphin will produce error:
"There was an error while extracting ‘path to file.rar’:
Extraction failed. Make sure that enough space is available."

* What outcome did you expect instead?
Dolphin should produce message:
"Extraction failed.
unrar-free is not installed. Please install unrar-free or unrar to decompress
this archive."

Explanation:
This error message "Make sure that enough space is available" is very
confusing, I thought something is wrong with my system. Dolphin / Ark should
let user know it's not space available problem, but lack of decompress addon to
open the archive.

Note: I am reporting this against Dolphin, because all messages are with title
"Dolphin", and error itself also is in red as a warning inside opened folder
window where this error occured. Looks like Dolphin have handling of errors
like this build-in. So I feel Dolphin could handle it better here. If
inappropriate, please move this bug report to Ark.

So I am reading this bug report. Sub-pixel rendering turned off is
better visually?

My result is:
$ grep Xft ~/.config/kdeglobals
XftAntialias=true
XftHintStyle=hintslight
XftSubPixel=rgb

And everything is fine, my image on two 4K monitors is crispy sharp, no
blurry RGB rainbow or whatever, it always has been like that. Is it any
better if I turn off XftSubPixel?

Just downgrade to Bookworm repo (current Testing). You should be able to
do it in your system without reinstalling, just make sure you on top of
apt and its manual, apt-pinning, when manipulating all packages. From
Sid to Testing is not very far, and everything works - at least on my
machine.
I use Testing on only one machine, everything else is on Stable. Stable
has its name for a good reason.

Re: Coloured character borders in kterm

2023-01-27 Thread Miguel A. Vallejo
Hello!

I tested debian-live-11.6.0-amd64-kde.iso and font rendering is just
perfect, both in Konsole and the whole system.

I can't find a live testing kde iso, the only ones I found were based
on cinnamon.

I'm downloading a nightly build of kde neon, but download speed is
awful, so no tests until tomorrow.

The only bug somewhat related I found is this one

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=463024

But I'm not sure if we are talking about the same issue.

The main problem for me is I'm suffering eye strain because of all the
rainbow colors around texts, and because this does not seem to be
resolved anytime soon so I'm seriously thinking of migrating to stable
or any other distribution with more up to date packages. I can't take
this much longer.

Greetings
