The freeze for inclusion of major software versions in Buster occurred in
early 2019 [1]. Take another look at the Plasma 5 schedule [2] and work out
for yourself which version is likely to be in Buster.

Re: Upgrade partially some packages (Plasma 5.19. 5 - 3) on testing broke plasma.

2020-11-09 Thread Andy G Wood
I had the same problem this morning with testing.
My fix was to simply to back out the new libkdecorations2-5v5 :

debsnap -d . --binary -a amd64 libkdecorations2-5v5 4:5.17.5-2
sudo dpkg -i libkdecorations2-5v5_5.17.5-2_amd64.deb
dpkg --get-selections \* | grep -P '^libkdecorations2-5v5' \
  | sed -e 's/install/hold/' > libkdecorations2-5v5.hold
sudo dpkg --set-selections < libkdecorations2-5v5.hold

That was good enough to get things working for today!

Me too, though not as frequent (a few times a week) and not related to
filtering. Has been present for months but I have not got around to debugging.

I am fairly certain it happens due to html content of certain emails (crashes
on opening or closing the email, but not predictable), which points the finger

Hello,

I have also been suffering from infrequent kmail crashes in recent weeks. It
is not related to filtering, nor is it specific to nouveau (I use the NVIDIA
proprietary display driver).
Not currently reproducible ... and yes I need to install debug syms in order
to provide more than a "me too". The impact may be wider than kmail because I
have also had one okular crash too.

Recurring KMail issue in Testing.

2019-03-05 Thread Andy G Wood
In recent weeks I have been getting a seemingly random issue with KMail v5.9.3
in Testing. Now and again on sending an email I get the following notification
pop-up:

Email sending failed.
Failed to store result in item. Only resources can modify remote identifiers.

The email sending does not fail, but the local administration of the fact that
an email has been sent does fail (the outgoing email is put un-read in sent-
mail with an icon of an envelope superimposed with a small arrow, bottom
right)

No akonadi error seems to be logged (which I am guessing is where the problem
is coming from). I don't really know how to debug this further?

Many thanks for providing feedback on additional research which I did not have
time to do. My reading of libssl1.1_1.1.1 is that it could potentially
generate a number of other problems, and is unlikely to make it in to buster
in the near future. However, hot of the press (as I write this) is qtbase-
opensource 5.11.1+dfsg-8, which should also fix the problem. Wait for
5.11.1+dfsg-8 to arrive in buster or install it from unstable (which is what I
did) and KMail 4:17.12.3-1 works just fine again.

I too have seen this problem over past months with Google calendar. Syncing
seemed to stop if a Gcalendar was updated outside of kdepim, whilst kdepim was
running (just an observation, not tested). I have been living with this
(hoping that 17.08 will fix the problem) by periodically deleting and
recreating my Gcalendar in kdepim. This fix eventually broke last week when I
could not recreate in kdepim because of the Google Services problem reported
in this thread.

Waiting for 17.08 to appear in testing ... and falling back to gcalcli.

I experienced something very similar this morning - the perils of `apt-get

I found that lots of stuff was removed and not upgraded. I cannot recall all
of what I did to fix it, but I installed again:
sddm-theme-breeze, kde-plasma-desktop, kde-standard, kdegraphics,

and that got me going again.

Good luck.

KOrganizer unreliable with Desktop Calendar

After the recent updates in Stretch I have experienced a reliable problem with
KOrganizer.

On initial start after login, it does not display items from the Desktop
Calendar (${HOME}/.kde/share/apps/korganizer/std.ics). After some time (yet
to be determined, but more than a few seconds), a restart of KOrganizer will
display everything fine.

I have yet to investigate (perhaps with Akonadi Console?), but wondered if
anybody else was seeing the same problem?

After an update on the 21st I saw the problem - part way through all the
relevant packages needed.

Go for the full update. Much better to have a working system than one which
may be broken in more ways than you have found so far. In my experience you
will come out of it smiling :-) The Debian KDE team do an awesome job.

Re: stretch/KDE5: icons disappeared from system tray

2017-01-24 Thread Andy G Wood
Hi solitone,

I have seen this in recent days on Debian testing. It was caused by updating
my system part way through the very recent large KDE update. In other words,
some packages were at the old version and some at the new. It took a few days
for all the necessary package updates to flow though into testing. As of
yesterday (23rd January), an up to date Debian testing does not exhibit this
any more ... for me.

Andy.

Re: kmail auto-completion

2016-09-07 Thread Andy G Wood
I have exactly the same problem as Andy reports with all my addressbooks
(which include LDAP) ... and came up with the same work around.

Reported from an up-to-date Debian testing system.

The fix for this may have already been posted in debian-kde:

From: Diederik de Haas

Works for me.

Kmail and Outlook style invitations.

2016-08-30 Thread Andy G Wood
Unfortunately, some of us have to work with/against corporate email systems
based on Outlook and Exchange. On an up to date Debian testing system (KDE
Frameworks 5.23.0 and KMail 5.2.3), Kmail does not seem to recognize Outlook
style invitations? I can see the "body part VCS/ICS calendar" if I show the
message structure, but cannot do anything with it (unlike the previous version
of Kmail). Tried lots of options but nothing makes any difference.

Any insight much appreciated.
Thanks.
Andy.

After a flurry of occurrences, I have not seen this for some days now. I fear
it will be very difficult to reproduce.

You could be right, I seem to remember that nvidia was recently updated in
testing.

Many thanks Didi,

I can confirm that workaround "adduser sddm video" fixed the problem.

Recently Google calendar syncing has been failing intermittantly. Today I
deleted my akonadi_gcal_resource
