konqueror and mozilla-mplayer
Hi, Has anyone got the (rather nice) mozilla-mplayer plugin from http://www.debian-multimedia.org to work in konqueror? It works fine in Iceweasel, installs fine in konqueror, stops asking me to install a movie plugin (for say... Quicktime) but then does nada. Any thoughts? What are the plugin alternatives? I seem to remember kmplayer worked just about (sometimes) on my last Debian machine. c -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? kontact crashes when I attach word documents to an email.
Can anyone else reproduce this behaviour? I've filed a bug report, but it strikes me as more likely to be a packaging issue. It isn't a general file attach problem (other files attach fine) and it doesn't appear to be a preview problem (as I tried it with that turned off). c -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". speeding up konqueror "view source"
Hi, I'm a longtime KDE and for a long time one of the most annoying things has been the speed with which "view document source" in konqueror runs. I think it's either because it opens a new instance of kwrite every time and/or because it re-requests the html from the server. Has anyone found a way to speed up view document source? It's now reached the very weird point where kde starts faster than konqueror can open document source in a new window! That can't be right. suggestions appreciated, c -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

making run command predictive.
Hi, I've a number of machines with KDE on. Some of the older ones have predictive completion (faded text that will complete if you press enter rather than the drop down list of options variety) for run command (Alt-F2) but I've no idea how I turned it on or how to turn it on on my newer machines. I'd really like to though, so does anyone know where it is in the control center? cheers, c -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? kde network programs very unstable since upgrade to 3.3.2
Hi, I've recently upgraded a couple of machines from 3.3.0 and 3.2 to kde 3.3.1 respectively (or whichever the latest of everything in sid is). Since rebooting every program that uses libkdenetwork (i think) has become prone to freezing permanently and in some cases freezing everything else in kde too. On one machine merely accessing the internet will freeze the system. I've already recreated all my .kde preferences and this seems to fix things temporarily but a) I'm fed up with losing all my kde preferences after upgrades (this isn't the first time I've had to) b) The problem seems to come back this time after a couple of days. Generally I'm not too impressed with the stability of 3.3 in Debian. My transition to 3.2 went much more smoothly. Has anyone else had harsh upgrade problems? Right now I'm chronically aware of why 3.3 shouldn't go into Sarge. The 3.2 packages hold together much better. sorry to be negative, i'm usually very impressed with the package standard. Might part of the problem be intra-kde package dependencies that are not tight enough? c

Help! :) The only thing I can suggest is using the Last Searches folder (at the bottom, or click on "open" in the search dialog) after every search. That opens in a new window if you double click, and setting a shortcut to open the search window again should be relatively painless. c

file associations in 3.2.1
Hi, I'm having a couple of related headaches in konqueror. When I visist a lot of sites now (a good example being www.sinfest.net, but many php sites are also causing problems) I am prompted by a "save as" dialog. Presumably konqueror doesn't recognise the file, but it's making browsing a large part of the web impossible. Does anyone know of any way to stop it? Also, I use gnump3d to stream mp3s from another machine, but cannot find any way in kdes file associations configurator to make clicking on .m3u files in konqueror open xmms without asking. I am always prompted to type in the program I want to open .m3u files with. This could all be a debian problem with my system, but I cannot work out how to solve it. It's all making me long nostalgically for Windows '95. :-(. cheers for any pointers, caoilte

Thankyou very much. Do you have any idea how many years I've written Arts off unnecessarily? It seems strange that the default plugin is so bad. It was also my fault for installing packages individually though, I guess. kdemultimedia has the right dependencies, I just didn't want noatun... Anyway Arts is now happily using less CPU than mldonkey. I won't dare criticise it again until I need to use realplayer... (and I've just noticed a timeout option that might scotch that one) c

does anyone have kwallet working?
I don't seem to be able to. Kongueror offers to remember every password (and kwallet asks for confirmation) but I can see no way of retrieving that password later. Since I also get the problem with kopete, I think there must be something wrong with my system. c

I'm trying to workout if this was deliberately inconsiderate or not. It's not like kde 3.1.1 has been officially released (as far as i can tell). Karolina's debs were excellent, and I for one will continue to use them until at least kde 3.1.1. As for the kdenetwork situation, it is strangely reminiscent of the problems we had with kde 2. Perhaps the packages need to be better distributed between developers? Ivan set a bad precedent by maintaining all of them IMO. Hey, Whenever I open text files in konqueror, it launches kate and opens the text file in a new window. This is really annoying. I quite like looking at the files in kate, but not if that means cluttering up my screen with new windows. Is there anyway to set konqueror up to embed the files in the konqueror window? I had ark installed for a while and it did that - though I had to remove it because there was no way of saving zip files once they were embedded in the window (and saveas doesn't work if you get the file through a redirect and automatic d/l). am i gonna have to remove kate too? c
