Strange behavior...
I noticed something weird today when selecting some files on my desktop. If I put the pointer near the kicker (within one "kicker hieght"), then press the mouse left mouse button, then drag downward, the whole desktop moves UP the hieght of the kicker. A bit disconcerting at 7:30 in the morning Anyone else see this? Where is 3.1?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I've seen a lot of traffic in the last few days for 3.1 in sid etc. with a lot of talk about having to remove Kraolina's debs etc. but I've seemed to miss where to point apt at to get the "official" debs. Normal users can't login..
After upgrading to Karolina's rc5 packages last week, I've had a problem which is preventing normal users from logging in. Root can login just fine, but if my normal user id is used, then things pause for roughly 20 seconds, then ksplash comes up the the "Setting up Interprocess communications" message and then sits there for another 20-30 seconds, then falls back to the login screen. I've watched/checked all the log files that apply, but nothing is revealed. I'd like to get this resolved soon. Is/has anyone been dealing with this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've even reverted back to Karolina's qt packages to no avail... Corey
Karolinas 3.1rc5?
After updating this morning to rc5 from Karolina, KDE fails to start and I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out why. I can log in as root (shudder...) from either kdm or startx, but cannot log in as anyone else under either kdm or startx. KDE simply stops at the staring of interprocess communications, then backs out to the starting point. Is anyone else seeing this? By the way, I've been VERY happy with the packaging karolina. Great job! Corey
Re: Possible bug?
I've experienced a similar problem. I've got the debs from karolina on a 733MHz machine with 512 MB of ram. When I log in to under KDE from KDM, I get a very regular, hard drive hit. About once every second I get a hit as if it's getting something from cache or something. I've got plenty of free RAM available so I shouldn't be swapping, and I am running kernel 2.4.19 with XFS added. This has never been a problem before and until now I've chalked it up to "It's a beta". Top reveals nothing out of the ordinary either. any ideas? Also, previously I asked about AA fonts in karolinas 3.1 builds, anyone get them to work? So far I've Turned on AA in kcontrol Installed the fonts (which work) Set up XftConfig to find them etc. Still don't work, open a shell, export QT_XFT=1 then fire off krite (or any other Kapp) nothing Corey Laura Rudmin wrote: > Hi, > >I have a Debian Sid Pentium, and KDE 3.0.4 and KDM. Re: KMail 3.1beta2 problems..
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I'm seeing the same behavior on a machine I just upgraded. My machine at work is operating correctly using the setup so I think it's got something to do with the upgrade process. My home machine (broken kmail) was upgraded from 2.2.2 but the one at work went from 2.2.2 -> 3.0.3 -->3.1b1 ->3.1b2. Also this machine has problems with KDM in that the keyboard does not respond. If I use startx to get to X the keyboard works normally. Corey On Monday 14 October 2002 20:21, Tom Hibbert wrote: > I have installed Karolina's kde3.1beta2 debs and I'm quite happy with > them.
