gwenview 24.08.1 is compiling and working fine

2024-09-25 Thread Eric Valette
With the (now fixed) problem on dolphin that was initially pointing to
baloo (but missing kio extra was the real culprit), I removed kf5 baloo
components and this removed (unfortunately) gwenview that is still the
kf5 version.

This has for long been my default image viewer and I missed it. I took
the debian directory from 23.04.2 source package copied it to 24.08.1
uptsream tar ball and changed only kf5 to kf6 in debian/rules (and the
changelog) to generate the correct package version number).

Made a "fakeroot make -f debian/rules binary" and after fixing the
missing -dev packages, it did build and works.

As I'm not a dev, if someone can officially package it

In the past I enabled systemd startup for KDE, not sure if it's related.

https://blog.davidedmundson.co.uk/blog/plasma-and-the-systemd-startup/)

* user level ssh-agent.service isn't kicking in, so I have to every time
start it manually with systemctl --user start to be able to use ssh-add.

These 2 issues are fixed in plasma-workspace 4:6.1.4-5 that I just uploaded to
experimental.

We were missing a build-dependency on systemd and it looks like part of the
session processes were started with systemd and others not which caused various
issues.

Confirmed fixed at least for shutdown/reboot. Thanks a lot.

Just upload kio-extras 24.08.0 to experimental as well as an updated

I hope that solves some of the problems.

Yes it does. Dolphin now works correctly. And the thumbnails for

Good catch Martin and thanks to uploader.

The other two work, but I do get

kf.kio.core: couldn't create worker: "Unknown protocol 'thumbnail'."

messages when I run Dolphin from console.

Hummm. Maybe this could also explin why we do not get thumbnails for
wallpapers in systemsettings also.

kio-extras is still 4:23.08.4-2 and only contains Qt 5/KF 5 protocols. In
there are all the protocols that Dolphin said were missing above and then
some.

Wait and see then. Thanks for the hints.

Check if its enabled in Systemsettings / Desktop / Search. If not, enable
it and relog into the session.

balooctl6 status should show Baloo as running and probably doing some
work.

If you want to reindex everything, you can try:

balooctl6 suspend; balooctl6 purge; balooctl resume

(or relog)

I aliased balooctl to balooctl6 in my shell configuration file.

The output could look like this:

% LANG=C.UTF-8 balooctl status
Baloo File Indexer is running
Indexer state: Idle
Total files indexed: […]
Files waiting for content indexing: 0
Files failed to index: 0
Current size of index is […] GiB

On my side I have

LANG=C.UTF-8 balooctl6 status
Baloo File Indexer is running
Indexer state: Idle
Total files indexed: 60,390
Files waiting for content indexing: 0
Files failed to index: 0
Current size of index is 35.46 MiB

BUT in dolphin I do have only partial correct information for recent
elements:

Recent File is empty although I created one today
Recent location is also empty
Modified Today is correct (I modified the file I copied).
Modified Yesterday is also correct.

So the two "recent item" are still empty. (NB I translated menu items
from french I hope translation is correct or at least you can guess the
item menu).

KDE6 : ktorrent 24.08 : works correctly while kde5 version is unusable for many users

2024-08-23 Thread Eric Valette

I already opened a bug on ktorrent, saying its fixed upstream but
apparently no one took care to propagate downstream to debian version.

When I realized the bug was in libktorrent and still unfixed, I
installed transmission-qt that works but I dislike it.

Today I took the plunge, motivated but kde6 transition, and tried to see
if version 24.08 works. It does work and is easy to compile/install (you
also need libktorrent 24.08). I installed it to /usr/local and removed
official KDE5 Debian one (well except the libtorrent library that is
also using by kget).

If someone with KDE6 packaging knowledge can make a .deb version I would
appreciate it. I know the focus is not yet on extra packages but still
torrent is a good way to share isos.

Regards and thanks again for KDE6.

Some feedback on KDE6 install

2024-08-19 Thread Eric Valette

Hi,

First a big thank to everyone involved. It was nearly smooth.

I was running unstable + some experimental stuff and did:

apt -t experimental install plasma-desktop kgamma digikam
frameworkintegration6 powerdevil kscreen libkscreenlocker6
plasma-widgets-addons sddm

Everything when well. And I then restarted.

sddmd did pop up and I tough it was already fine.

However when I logged in, the screen went back, stay so for one minute
or so and then I was back to sddm prompt.

So I though some pacage where missing and did an experimental upgrade
from console login. I saw that some packages like dokphin, kwrite,
kgamma, ... were missing and installed them.

Just to discover that this did not fix the problem. So I was about to
change my session type to fvwm that I keep when kde breaks, just to
realize that during sddm upgrade, the session type was not set to
plasma-x11. Changing it back to it, made login work successfully.

I still have some minor annoyance (my taste):

1) The list of recent element is empty and generates errors on sqlite,
	2) When using main menu to shutdown, I had the habit to use sleep
instead of shutdown. Now I see only shutdown or cancel.

3) The battery icon is not always displayed. I have to enter
the "hidden icons" menu to see it. Found no way to make it stick on menu
bar. SOme other icons that I had are still there. Dunno why specifically
this one disapperared.

I do see the sleep option when I get back to the prompt after letting
the PC unused. I can also use a special key.

So far so good. Thanks for the good work.

Same for upplay that use a different UPnP stack.

What puzzle me is that Vlc seems to work fine when launched from app

Re: Re: Plasma 5.23 25th Annivery Release coming to unstable

2021-10-15 Thread Eric Valette

IME it's *rarely* needed.
Normally aptitude safe-upgrade installs and removes packages as needed.

I beg to disagree. Here you speak about *aptitude* which is a tool that
is not the plain apt tool itself. You could also say things for dselect,
synaptic, discover...

With apt-get, you have to use dist-upgrade quite often because as other
have pointed out, you cannot add or remove packages without dist-upgrade.

Clearly to install libkdecorations2-5v5, you will need apt-get
dist-upgrade. And the libkdecorations2-5v5 that was wrongly put in
experimental does break the unstable version...

No I unfortunately cannot. But I'm also dubious about the information it
would provide:
	1) As kdeconnect Linux sees other Linux both sides, kdeconnect on
Linuxes is connected to the network and does correctly receives packets
and decodes packets when they are emitted via Linux kdeconnect,

	3) Android devices and Linux devices do talk at IP level as wireshark

That is why I suggest that under *yet to understand circumstances* the

Looking more carefully at the new queue, I think there is a typo in the
package version for 4:4.12.2. I see 4:14.12.2 for kdesdk-kioslaves for
example.

Did not manage to solve it.

I also have a crash in kwin when the opengl screensaver runs for too
long. But I think its also mesa/X11 from experimental more than KDE 4.5.

What did you upgrade? Why ktorrent cannot be installed?

Ktorrent no more installable. Rebuild with qt 4.7.1?

2010-12-14 Thread Eric Valette

Hi,

I upgraded the packages but do miss ktorrent. I also have seen no update
although qt 4.7.1 has been released.

Side question; the kde plasma icons are black and white (e.g kmix,
krandrtray), while other (non kde) are still coloured.

Is this normal?

On one machine I have a systematic crash that prevent shutdown in
policykit (bus error).
