Package: qtcore4-l10n Severity: minor Version: 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 The extended description ends with: The QtCore module contains the translations of the core non-GUI functionality. This is derived from libqtcore4's description, the package which previously contained what qtcore4-l10n contains. libqtcore4's description contains: The QtCore module contains core non-GUI functionality. Bug#570478: Also experienced
I was hit by something similar after upgrading kdm from 4.8.4-4 to 4.8.4-5, which changes the default kdm configuration. I decided to take the maintainer's version of the script and then kdm wouldn't start anymore. However, the Login Manager configuration tool still let me configure kdm. /etc/init.d/kdm is responsible for substituting @@@ToBeReplacedByDesktopBase@@@ when kdm is started, at line 86: sed -i s|@@@ToBeReplacedByDesktopBase@@@|$DEFAULT_KDM_THEME| ${KDMCFG} This failed because my kdmrc was in /var/run/kdm/kdmrc/kdmrc rather than in /var/run/kdm/kdmrc. I was unable to figure out why (even after reading upgrade scripts) but /var/run/kdm/ was a directory which contained a kdmrc/ subdirectory. We had a discussion in kde-core-devel about the nfs support removal. The reason is unmaintained code that needs superuser rights. OK, thanks And this is working. FWIW, I apparently also couldn't get kdenetwork-filesharing to work - that is actually get the machine to share a directory that can be seen by an SMB client - but that shall be matter for a later report. Could you explain me later the details of this issue? kdenetwork-filesharing lost its KCM module since our last release. As your message clarifies, this is not a problem by itself, but an unfortunate - hopefully temporary - decision to improve reliability which was judged to improve on the previous situation. However, the description of kdenetwork-filesharing in Debian testing, which uses KDE 4.8, is the same as the description in Debian 6, which uses KDE 4.4. The description is now entirely misleading. As our package contains no proper documentation, it leaves the wrong description as the only documentation, which constitutes a serious bug, as people who didn't use a recent kdenetwork-filesharing can't figure out how to use it, limiting the package's possible users to a small minority. A fix to our package description will help to mitigate the problem. Thanks for the quick reply -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#590304: Confirmed
tags 590304 + confirmed thanks I have to confirm this. I did not experience the problem of a defined screensaver not running (although I'm quite sure I did experience such problems many times with KDE several years ago, but not necessarily with XScreenSaver), but the list of screensavers also depends on installation order here, running KDE 4.8.4 (testing). XScreenSaver hacks currently show, with xscreensaver-data, xscreensaver-data-extra and xscreensaver-screensaver-bsod installed. However, if I'd remove these and then reinstall, XScreenSaver hacks would no longer show, until I'd install xscreensaver. Bug#681619: [kscreensaver] Unclear/confusing descriptions
Package: kscreensaver Version: 4:4.8.4-2 Severity: normal The descriptions of kscreensaver, kscreensaver-xsavers and libkscreensaver need to be revisited to clarify and avoid confusion. We currently have: libkscreensaver: library of the KDE Screensaver system This package contains libraries needed for kscreensaver. This package is part of the KDE base workspace module. kscreensaver: Additional screensavers for KScreenSaver This package contains screensavers for KScreenSaver. KScreenSaver can use XScreenSaver collection of screensavers with the 'kscreensaver-xsavers' package. This package is part of the KDE artwork module. kscreensaver-xsavers: xscreensaver support for KScreenSaver This package allows KScreenSaver to use the XScreenSaver collection of screensavers. This package is part of the KDE artwork module. The main problem is that the meaning of KScreenSaver is unclear. One could think that KScreenSaver is provided by the kscreensaver package and that kscreensaver's description would describe KScreenSaver. But this is not the case. The kscreensaver package's short description is Additional screensavers for KScreenSaver. Therefore, the kscreensaver package clearly doesn't contain KScreenSaver. Unfortunately, I can't say what KScreenSaver is. Is KScreenSaver provided by some package? All I can say is that at one point there was a kscreensaver command (/usr/bin/kscreensaver), which, I believe, would launch KControl's screensaver module. This is no longer the case. One option, which I think is a good choice, would be to remove any reference to KScreenSaver, at least for kscreensaver{,-xsavers}. Whatever KScreenSaver is, it doesn't seem to have any screensaver by default, so the description Additional screensavers for KScreenSaver seems broken. Screensavers for KDE would probably be better. While we're at it, I wonder if kscreensaver is a good package name. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? This was reported upstream as https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=279665 I was able to workaround this by creating a new calendar. In the Calendars pane bottom left, click the plus sign. Select calendar in a local directory. Set the location to ~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer Then, to recover your data, use File - Import - Import calendar... Choose your old lost calendar's data file (in .kde/share/apps/korganizer/std.ics ). Bug#563352: Upstream won't change
Le 3 novembre 2011 08:29:42, Hendrik Sattler a écrit : Hi, I also don't think that Konsole should be patched. Instead clarify in the policy what a command actually is. Saying everything that works with xterm is too broad (and too broken). Let's look at the one from the KDE bug report: konsole -e cd src make This is not a command, it's a line to be interpreted e.g. by a shell. That's not the same but often confused: cd is a command and make is another but the above is not. The term command is ambiguous and does not necessarily mean a command name. The above is a shell command in the POSIX sense. The suggestion in the KDE bug report is indeed the solution: konsole -e /bin/sh -c cd src make as that fits any definition of command (/bin/sh) and arguments (the other arguments) and fully complies to policy. How is konsole supposed to see that this is to be interpreted by /bin/sh and not by python or perl? Just because xterm does something funky and blindly assumes a standard shell? That contradicts policy 11.8.3 _directly_: [...]runs the specified command, interpreting the entirety of the rest of the command line as a command to pass straight to exec[...] xterm obviously does NOT do this! Hum, good point. I reported this as #648271, thanks. And policy is not everything. Having a consistent behaviour of konsole on Debian and non-Debian system is far more important. I agree it would be ideal to have compatibility with vanilla upstream. One way I see to achieve that would be to introduce new options in konsole. For example, add an --execute-compat option that behaves like -e. Then, perhaps a new command, say konsole-xterm-compat, could be added as a wrapper around konsole which would map calls to konsole-xterm-compat -e to konsole --execute-compat. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#604773: [kspread] Time cells shown as 00:00 when ODS file is loaded, corrupted when saving as ODS
Package: kspread Version: 1:2.2.1-3 Severity: grave Tags: upstream fixed-upstream 2 days ago a new OOo migrated to squeeze and I decided to remove it, forgetting that I used Calc daily for my timesheet - ahem. So when I opened my timesheet yesterday, it didn't open with Calc, but with KSpread, which I also had installed. I thought I wouldn't bother to reinstall OOo just for that, so I added November 21's time, saved and closed. It's about time we started seeing the wonders of ODF, right? Today, I opened again the spreadsheet and noticed the times were really wrong. I asked on #koffice and was informed by Marijn Kruisselbrink this was a bug he had fixed for KOffice 2.3 (so no fix released yet). The upstream report is https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=253042 The precise details of this issue are not clear, but basically, when certain time values are saved in an ODS file, the time saved has some random data. When reopening the same file which looked OK, KSpread shows the time as 00:00:00. If you click the cell, you see the value in the top bar is the actual value - apparently. This does not work so well with other ODS programs, like Calc (and probably the fixed KSpread), which rather shows some more or less random values. What happened in my spreadsheet from Calc was that all durations of at least 1 hour were not corrupted, all others were corrupted. So the 25 minutes entries (00:25:00) were corrupted, but not 01:10:00. To reproduce, just create a new sheet, put 5:00 in A1, save, and watch the displayed value change to 0:00 when reopening the document. According to Marijn, there is no 2.2.3 planned. I don't think the fix was backported to branch 2.2, but Marijn doesn't think this would be hard. I have update my repository to sid and I have executed apt-get update apt-get install apt-get install libkdecore5 I got the background but not the menu bar (the menu bar generally is ah the bottom of the page even if I place it at the top of the page) Sincerely Marco Righi Yes, upgrading alone won't fix profiles that used the broken KDE. The profiles are largely broken and you may want to create a new one or log in as another user temporarily. I'm using my own profile close to how it used to be since a few minutes. I had to add a new panel and to add widgets to that panel: Application Launcher, Battery Monitor, Digital Clock, System Tray and Task manager. Bug#407598: One more opinion.
Le 4 janvier 2008, Raúl Sánchez Siles a écrit : Hello Filipus: IMHO, I think you are mixing different concepts. One thing is system wide volume level which are stored on a system wide basis, previosluy with alsa-utils init script ( no longer present) and another, different, thing is user level volumes. Once you power your system up you start it as system wide and hence the alsa init script do its work. Remember you are not forced to log in when you power on your computer. This would be the case for example a media center. After this, you are free to log in and there is where kmix is doing it's job. The problem as you say is when you shutdown. Well, it is certain that alsa will store the settings for the last user that changed them, but otherwise, alsa would have to take into account what user has the right to do these operations and remember it, this is not very handy. I don't understand this sentence. Since it's certain that alsa will store the settings for the last user that changed them, how can you write about a different situation?

Bug#392468: korganizer: description needs improvement
Package: korganizer Version: 4:3.5.4-1+b1 Severity: minor This report covers several different issues in the package description. Feel free to close it when you feel that most issues are addressed. The description has an advertisement look when it reads Best of all. vCalendar support is mentioned twice. , It should read , it. Starfish Internet Sidekick is an old product not even in Wikipedia's list of PIMs. all for the Microsoft Windows platform, of course. is superfluous. Current users of the popular program ical should definitely take a look at KOrganizer and compare features. is really out of the scope of a package description. Note that it is strange that kpilot is not suggested by the package if one reads the current description. I'd suggest the following revision: This package contains KOrganizer, a calendar and scheduling program. KOrganizer aims to be a complete program for organizing appointments, contacts, projects, etc. KOrganizer natively supports information interchange with other calendar applications through the industry standard vCalendar personal data interchange file format. This eases moving from most other modern PIMs to KOrganizer. KOrganizer offers full synchronization with Palm Pilot, if kpilot is installed. This package is part of KDE, and a component of the KDE PIM module. Bug#369899: kcontrol: should suggest ntpdate
Package: kcontrol Version: 4:3.5.3-1 Severity: wishlist I was eagerly awaiting KDE 3.4 in Etch until I tried it and couldn't find a way to synchronize the clock by NTP. Today someone learned me that kcmshell clock could actually do that. The trick is that, apparently, some *ntp* packages have to be installed. I tried ntpdate first, and that worked. I don't know NTP enough to say if other packages can provide the same functionality. Suggesting ntpdate won't be much helpful for other people, who would better see the option in kcmshell clock anyway, and being told to install ntpdate when they attempt to use it, but I guess this report will remind me to open a bug upstream about that later. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#368883: qt4-x11: FTBFS on alpha
Package: qt4-x11 Version: 4.1.2-2 Severity: serious Justification: no longer builds from source gcc ICEd when attempting to build qt4-x11 on alpha on 2006-05-14. I don't know what's the issue and what could fix. However, 4.1.2-1 built and the changes to -2 seem minimal, so it should be easy to check whether there was a gcc regression or the qt4-x11 changes triggered the FTBFS and need a workaround. qt4-x11 needs an update for X11R7 to reach testing, and I heard that transition was planned for soon (possibly under 1 week). So, until this bug is fixed, either it will a blocker, or 4.1.2-1 will be pushed on alpha (which looks better, *if* doing that is possible). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#368883: qt4-x11: FTBFS on alpha
Brian Nelson a écrit : Isn't an ICE always a compiler bug? Yes, I was just asking if it was a new bug or a pre-existing one. In any case, nothing in the Qt code changed between -1 and -2, so it's certainly a GCC regression. Thanks for the information...I guess that's bad news. It seems there are almost 2 monthes of changes in the gcc 4.0 branch between 4.0.3-1 and 4.0.3-3, so it's quite possible that it's indeed a GCC regression. When looking at the gcc-4.0 bugs reported in Debian's BTS for 4.0.3-1, I can't see much that would explain this. I'm completely clueless about building, but somebody should start by figuring which GCC regression is blocking this. Given the fact that branch 4.0 looks very inactive, maybe the easiest thing would be to identify the changeset which introduced this regression.

Bug#364938: kamera's kcmshell's Test sometimes does not work
Package: kamera Version: 4:3.5.2-1 Severity: normal If a camera is not correctly plugged in, not turned on, or if the user lacks permission to it (e.g. typically lacks membership of the camera group), the camera will not show in kamera's kcmshell's list, and will have to be added manually. Then, trying to use this camera won't work. Particularly, clicking Test will do nothing, while it should at least hint about missing membership of the camera group. I assume this is an upstream bug, but am filing this here as upstream kamera's BTS is not trivial to find. Bug#362871: ark: The utility is not in your PATH. when trying to open .deb
Package: ark Version: 4:3.5.2-1 Severity: normal Since 3.5.2 (downgrading to 3.5.1-2 fixes), ark fails to open .deb when launched with $ ark foo.deb. Please install it or contact your system administrator. appears. After The utility, the name of a utility should show, but there is none, so presumably ark is looking for something which doesn't exist.
