I agree; my normal accounts _do_ have my real name but, as I said, because of
the upgrade problem I could not get to them. This is my "secret" account.

Sorry to reply to my own mail. Solved the problem by doing:
# cd /var/cache/apt/archives
# dpkg -i --force-overwrite kdelibs-data_4%3a3.2.0-0woody1_all.deb
# apt-get upgrade

Packaging probably still should be fixed though...

Rest of update went smooth. 3.2 looks great! (What's all this red text ... is
kMail doing spell checking on the fly now? ... wow!)

Just a few little things I have noticed:
- Application buttons in Panel for Konsole and Konqueror are broken
  - when clicked I get "The desktop entry file
/usr/share/applnk/Internet/konqbrowser.desktop has no Type=... entry."
  - when I open properties I get "The file
file:/usr/share/applnk/Internet/konqbrowser.desktop doesn't exist"
  (fixed by manually adding the buttons and deleting the old ones)
- I seem to have lost some customization:
  - changes in toolbar for kMail are gone
  - Tab bar for Konsole was set to top, is now bottom again

You can update fairly easily from KDE 2.x to KDE 3.1.4 by adding
  deb http://download.kde.org/stable/latest/Debian/ stable main
to /etc/apt/sources.list.
This is very stable on my Woody box.

Note that you will also install some backported packages from
unstable/testing.

If you run into problems or would like more info, you can contact me by
private email (in Dutch if you like).

Good luck.

If I search package.debian.org for STABLE for postgres.h:
usr/include/postgresql/server/postgres.h  devel/postgresql-dev
usr/share/pike/include/postgres.h interpreters/pike-pg
usr/lib/pike7.2/7.2.340/include/postgres.hnon-us/pike7.2-pg
usr/lib/pike7/7.0.361/include/postgres.h  non-us/pike7-pg

If I search package.debian.org for TESTING for postgres.h:
usr/include/postgresql/server/postgres.h  libdevel/postgresql-dev
usr/lib/pike/7.2.526/lib/include/postgres.h   interpreters/pike7.2-pg
usr/lib/pike/7.4.27/lib/include/postgres.hinterpreters/pike7.4-pg
usr/share/pike/include/postgres.h interpreters/pike0.6-pg

If I search package.debian.org for UNSTABLE for postgres.h:
usr/lib/pike/7.2.526/lib/include/postgres.h   interpreters/pike7.2-pg
usr/lib/pike/7.4.31/lib/include/postgres.hinterpreters/pike7.4-pg

So it looks like the file was accidentally (??) removed from postgresql-dev.
You might take a look at the change log and bugs for postgresql-dev.

I use the same version of kmail and activated the filter last week because of
the spam. It works perfectly for me.

Check if you have also enabled filtering for your account in Kmail config -
Network - Receiving (modify your pop-account and select 'Filter messages if
they are greater then...' on the General tab). If I understand correctly, the
basic filtering is done there and only the messages filtered there are passed
to the pop-filters.

Re: konqueror & flash

I had the same problem. It may also be memory related.
After installing the plugin, sometimes flash would play, but sometimes I would
get the same message. My box "only" had 64MB then.
I recently installed 256MB, and since then I have had no more problems.

It seems related to actual _free_ memory at the moment the page is loaded. As
if the plugin does not know about swapping or freeing cached memory...

By the way: does anybody know why http://www.macromedia.com would only show a
grayish empty page in Konqueror?

That's great for the basic KDE packages. What I liked about ktown however was
the fact that you offered KDE + KOffice + Ägypten all consistently compiled
for Woody.

Are there also alternative locations for KOffice and Ägypten that contain the
packages that were available on ktown?

P.S. Did the upgrade from 2.2 just last weekend, so just in time! Very
impressed with the improvements, especially in KMail with the GPG support.
Thanks.

Arts crashes in KDE3.1.1

2003-04-06 Thread Frans Pop
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello list,

I have updated from KDE2.2 to KDE3.1.1 on a Woody (3.0R1) box running a 2.4.20
kernel. Arts is configured to use Alsa, which I compiled myself for this
kernel.

I got the KDE upgrade from http://ktown.kde.org/~nolden/kde.

Arts keeps crashing when I start certain applications, most consistently with:
- - kmid (on startup)
- - krec (on startup; only sometimes, see below)
- - arts control tool (when opening View Environment)
- - arts builder (when executing a structure)
I get the KDE Crash Handler telling me the app caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV).

Also, when I start krec (and is does not crash completely), artsd dies, and I
get the following message.
See: http://home.tiscali.nl/arts/KRec_problem.png

However, when I do 'artsshell stereoeffect list', I get:
   Arts::Effect_WAVECAPTURE
   Arts::Synth_FREEVERB
   Arts::Synth_STEREO_COMPRESSOR
   Arts::Synth_STEREO_FIR_EQUALIZER
   Arts::Synth_STEREO_PITCH_SHIFT
   Arts::Synth_STEREO_PITCH_SHIFT_FFT
   ExtraStereo
   Noatun::Equalizer
   Noatun::EqualizerSSE
   Noatun::FFTScope
   Noatun::FFTScopeStereo
   Noatun::RawScope
   Noatun::RawScopeStereo
   Noatun::StereoEffectStack
   Noatun::StereoVolumeControl
   Noatun::StereoVolumeControlSSE
   Noatun::WinSkinFFT
   RawWriter
   VoiceRemoval

Here are some of the backtraces from KDE Crash Handler:
http://home.tiscali.nl/sound_problem/kmid_crash.txt
http://home.tiscali.nl/sound_problem/artsbuilder_crash.txt
http://home.tiscali.nl/sound_problem/artscontrol_crash.txt
http://home.tiscali.nl/sound_problem/crash.png

Some configuration info:
Modules: http://home.tiscali.nl/sound_problem/lsmod.txt
Sound devices: http://home.tiscali.nl/sound_problem/dev.txt
Info from /proc/asound:
- - http://home.tiscali.nl/sound_problem/proc_asound.txt
- - http://home.tiscali.nl/sound_problem/proc_asound_card0.txt

Any help appreciated,
