Center as user and selected the Peripherals-Printers. It again gave me the above error - it was regularly giving me that error box three times, and then listing no printers. For Print system currently used: it listed CUPS, but I decided it must think I was using lpd - I see no other reason to ask for kdeprint_lpd.la. So, I chose CUPS again from the combo box, and ... behold, my printer is now available to my normal user. So, it works. I don't know what fixed it. Josh Well, I do. I had the same problem and searched my entire computer, all the .deb archives in my cache but this file was nowhere to be found. Apearanty some invalid reference. Bug#287373: Error when printing from KDE app: kdeprint_lpd.la not found
Package: kdeprint Version: 4:3.2.2-1 Severity: normal While trying to print from any KDE app i get this error 3 times: There was an error loading kdeprint_lpd. The diagnostic is: Library files for kdeprint_lpd.la not found in paths After this the print dialog apeares but my printer is not listed. This printer however is working fine, i kan manage it when i start kcontrol as root an I can also print from non-k apps such as open office I have tried to repair e few packages: kdeprint kdesktop with: apt-get --reinstall install package but this doesn't help The K helpdesk sends me to the distribution owner.
