Hmm, i think they must be compiled with gcc < 3.2. Otherwise they won't work on woody, right? So i assume, that the creator just took the sid source packages. Unfortunately, these backports are available on all kde mirrors, and so i think they are used very often. Hmm, to all participants of this list: Which KDE backport for woody are you using? I really appreciate experiences of people who also backport other KDE applications. Henning
libqt-mt => libqt3c102-mt
Hello! I have an additional question to an old mailing list discussion: http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2004/04/msg00259.html It was about dependency problems just due to the fact, that packages are (unnecessarily) named different: There are many KDE backports out there, some of them depends on libqt3-mt, some of them on libqt3c102-mt. So it is difficult (?) to build a package of an KDE application which will work with both of these different backports: >> Can't you make your package depend on kdelibs4, and use the implicit >> kdelibs4->libqt3* dependency ? > >No. The package dependencies are generated at build time against >whatever the package links to, plus manually set dependencies. So for >kdelibs4 and libqt3c102-mt they are automatically set up. Now i noticed, that i can resolve the problem by manually correct the Depends field like that: before: Depends: ..., libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.1.2), ... after: Depends: ..., libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.1.2) | libqt3c102-mt (>= 3:3.1.2), ... That works, but is there an better way to achieve that? Henning

This is not about different Debian distributions. It's just about woody (and nothing else) together with different versions of KDE... Anyway: I don't have any clue how to provide two different version of the same package (for the different KDE-Versions) via the same deb-repository. Is this possible? Henning
KDE322: libqt-mt => libqt3c102-mt
Hi! Will this package be also renamed in the 'final release' of KDE322 for Woody? This would break compatibility with many (all?) existing KDE applications packaged for KDE < 322. I am providing a package of k3b for woody. This package won't install with the current debs of KDE322. Sure, it's easy to correct this, but then, the package will fail on systems with older versions of KDE3. Henning

standalone artsd
Hi! I wonder if there is a standalone package of artsd available. One of my computers is running KDE. The second computer is a Xless server (no graphic card/monitor). I know that it's possible to use arts (artsdsp) to redirect sound played on the server via network to the KDE-machine (which has an arts-daemon running, network transparency enabled). So i tried to install arts on my server too. Unfortunatley, libarts1 depends on xlibs and libqt3-mt. Are xlibs or qt3 really essential for libarts1 ? Maybe xlibs is essential because of the X authentification feature? On www.arts-project.org/aol/1-download.html they say that there is also a 'standalone version', which does not require KDE. So my hope is, that it even does not require qt3? Henning

font problem kde3.1.1 / X11_4.3
Hi! I updated my system to kde3.1.1 / X11_4.3 using Ralfs packages. Mostly everything works perfect, but one exception: The font, used by 'konsole' looks like this: V e r y u g l y (it is also bold...) I found some things about defining font aliases from 'mono' to 'fixed' via XftConfig, but then i realized, that this was already there. I also noticed that the 'font installer' in the Control Center does not provide any font for a normal user ('No Fonts'). If i switch to administrator mode, a dialog pops up saying: "File does not exist and folder is not writeable." After that, the fonts list is populated with many entries, but preview does not work for any of them. Any suggestions? Regards Henning pgppmEdsXJz4c.pgp Description: signature

Hi! I have successfully installed ralphs kde3.1 packages from ktown... now, while trying to install old packages which are build agains kde3.0.5 (from ftp.kde.org) there is a dependency problem with libarts1-qt: it is not available for KDE3.1 (maybe because everything is included in libarts1 ?). But trying to install libarts1-qt from 3.0.5 (which is maybe not a good idea) also fails with this error: trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/libqtmcop.so.1.0.0', which is also in package libarts1 ok, so i wonder if it is a good idea to build a dummy libarts1-qt package to be dependency compliant? k3b for woody/sarge using kde3.0.X
Hello! I recently packaged 'k3b' (www.k3b.org) for woody and sarge. Now i wonder if everything's right. May anybody have a look over it, give it a try? The packages are available via apt-get: deb http://www.planet-moll.de/debian woody main resp. deb http://www.planet-moll.de/debian sarge main In both cases the package is called 'k3b'. Note: The packages are not compiled against KDE2, but KDE3.0.5a (resp. KDE3.0.4 for sarge), which are available on ftp.kde.org. Yes sure, you know that... Any suggestions?
