How to start kpdf in Fit to Page Width Mode?

2005-07-13 Thread Joerg Reckers
Using Kpdf 0.4.1 in KDE 3.4.1 from Aloith

When i open any .pdf-file i would like kpdf to show it fitted to Page Width.
Is there any option to put in my kpdfrc to get this behavior? Or anything
else to do?

Btw. where can i find documentation on the *rc files for KDE programs? Or just
in the source-code?

thanks joerg

PS: kpdf 0.4.1 is great, for someone doing lots of latex documents ;-) [watch
file  search in documents] thanks.

German Umlaute in KDE 3.3.2

2005-04-04 Thread Joerg Reckers
I Have problems typing german Umlaute in KDE apps.

The problem occurs since i changed to UTF-8 a few days ago.

the Problem (in kde):
i can type german umlaute in NOT kde-apps like: xterm, firefox, gedit,
i get only rubbish if i try to type umlaute in kde-apps like: konsole, kedit,
kmail,

i am using kde 3.3.2 on a debian sid system.
my locales are set to the following:

~$ locale

LC_NAME=[EMAIL PROTECTED]
LC_ADDRESS=[EMAIL PROTECTED]
LC_TELEPHONE=[EMAIL PROTECTED]
LC_MEASUREMENT=[EMAIL PROTECTED]
LC_IDENTIFICATION=[EMAIL PROTECTED]
LC_ALL=

(i am getting that in konsole (as i do in xterm), so kde seems to know these
settings)

-i tried to change the keyboard layout in kcontrollcenter, no luck. (it is set
to de right now)
-i tried with a fresh user, still no luck

but i have no problems if i start the qt-apps under gnome. e.g:
kdm-gnome-kedit: no problem, everything works

i tried to google on this problem and didn't found an answer, so if someone
has the same problem, or better, a solution, please let me know

thanks, Joerg

 Your system time is out of sync. If the difference is too big X has a
 problem to synchronize. Have a look at ntpdate or ntp.

 Cheers,
 André

Yes my system is totaly out of sync sure, but thats because of the suspend to
disk! It is still set to the time it has been while suspending!

i have running ntp, so a norrmal reboot is no problem! but ntpd doesnt work if
the system is totally out of sync as it is after a suspend to disk, i have to
update the system time manually (by using the hwclock as reference or using
ntpdate). [As the system time is still the old after waking up from disk, i
can even use an at now + 5 min in my suspend to disk script to do that]

As i wrote before:
 -It only hangs once, if change the hwclock later to whatever time and do a
hwclock --hctosys again it works without problems. so just the first time i
do it, i get the black screen.
so just to be out of sync seems not to be a big deal for X
(where can i find more information about beeing out of sync and X problems?)

more background:
 -i let the machine suspend with: echo -n disk /sys/power/state
 -It only hangs once, if change the hwclock later to whatever time and do a
hwclock --hctosys again it works without problems. so just the first time i
do it, i get the black screen.
 - i have no problems if i switch to text mode (whats it called? i mean
tty1) after wake up (kde still running) and do the hwclock --hctosys there.
no latency, i can switch back to kde instantly
 -i am using Debian Sid, so KDE 3.3.2

I would be glad for any ideas, thanks in advance,
joerg

Re: Win key in KDE

2004-09-20 Thread Joerg Reckers
I get rid of it by hitting the Num Lock key, so that the Num Lock-LED is
on and i can type numbers.
The Win-key is now just the meta-key for me, no K-Menu any longer.
Doesn't work on Laptop-keyboards ;-)

p.s.: don't know why there is a connection between the Num Lock and this
problem, but there is, for me at least. sid,kde3.3.0

 Have you found any solution for this?

one question, after the pinentry program asks for my mantra (passphrase) once,

this information? gpg-agent? is there a possibility to turn off this
behavior, so every time my secret-key is used, i am asked for the mantra?

   these are, briefly, the steps I have followed to get some S/MIME
   support in KMail 3.3.

 Wipe out all not needed packages:
 # aptitude purge newpg gpgsm cryptplug cryptplug-dev libgpgme6
 libgpgme-dev libksba0

 Use packages provided by Matthias Urlichs [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 # echo deb http://smurf.noris.de/code/debian/ experimental smurf \

 /etc/apt/sources.list

 Install required packages
 # apt-get update  apt-get install gnupg2 gnupg-agent dirmngr

   NOTE 1: gnupg2 will *NOT* substitute your gpg command, it will
   just provide /usr/bin/gpg2, which you needn't use, and some other
   commands that the programs will use internally.

   NOTE 2: the gnupg-agent package from smurf does NOT provide
   /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90*gpg-agent.

   NOTE 3: gnupg2 1.9.10+cvs-1 contains /usr/share/locale/locale.alias,
   which is also in the locales package. you'll need dpkg
   --force-overwrite.

 === RECOMPILE gpgme0.4 ===
 This is the sole cause for the error this GPGME version was
 compiled without S/MIME support. Now it will because of gnupg2
 installed:
 # apt-get source gpgme0.4  cd gpgme0.4-0.9.0
 # debuild  dpkg -i ../libgpgme11_0.9.0-1_i386.deb

   You should now see funky things in KMail - Settings - Configure
   KMail - Security - Crypto Backends - Configure.

   I found this page useful:

 http://jdurand.home.cern.ch/jdurand/cern_ca_and_mail/

   Kleopatra now works and KMail seems able to verify S/MIME messages.

   DISCLAIMER: I claim no deep knowledge of all of the above explained.

 I've done a quick check against the qt lib from the package you are
 using, and it's apparently wrong. Your lib must somehow have gotten
 corrupted.

 I would advise you to install the debsums package to check whether I
 haven't made a mistake, and to reinstall qt if you get the same
 results. It's probably best to let debsums check the rest of your
 files as well.

 Have you by any chance run the prelink program recently ?
