Bug#988596: akonadi-server: bug still exists

2022-01-03 Thread Karsten Hilbert
Package: akonadi-server
Version: 4:20.08.3-3
Followup-For: Bug #988596

Dear Maintainers,

after an apt full-upgrade from Buster to Bullseye akonadiserver now has an
apparmor profile. That profile seems to prevent it from starting up, as
witnessed by DENY messages in the system log.

Likely, this happens because I have relocated home dirs:

<-->/home/
<--><-->user1 -link-> /somewhere/else/home.user1/
<--><-->user2 -link-> /somewhere/else/home.user2/
<--><-->...

and apparmor seems to not consider the link location as allowed via the
"@xdg_data_home/akonadi/" rules.

For the time being I have set the profile to complain mode but what is
the suggested way forward ?

Thanks,
Karsten

Bug#994230: Krusader Version 2.7.2 is showing no details for file transfer anymore

2021-09-14 Thread Karsten

Package: krusader
X-Debbugs-Cc: deb...@decotrain.de
Version: 2:2.7.2-2
Severity: minor

Hello maintainer,

this question has already been asked in a Debian forum without any answer.

Since Debian 11 (Bullseye) the Krusader version 2.7.2 "Peace of Mind", as well
as a new service for notifications in KDE
is standard.

There is no option for file operations in the notifications and the Krusader
does not appear among the applications
there either.

In Krusader itself there is no option to reactivate the old copy window.
This means that important details such as the current transfer speed and
remaining copy time are omitted.
There is only a basic progress indicator with not details what is happening.

How the old copy window can be reactivated or additional informations be shown?

Thanks and best regards
karsten

Bug#987063: gwenview: looses image metadata on jpg rotation

2021-04-16 Thread Karsten Hilbert
Package: gwenview
Version: 4:20.12.3-1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

This release started to drop metadata from JPEG files after rotating
them. I do believe the following upstream commit is the culprit:

https://invent.kde.org/graphics/gwenview/commit/a401e66621bcffbdc75048d9eaded1a5f5a67137

because it "unconditionally" saves JPEGs thereby overwriting them w/o
carrying over metadata :(

Thanks,
Karsten

Bug#984933: powerdevil brakes play of sound when returning from energy saving of the monitor

2021-03-10 Thread Karsten
Package: powerdevil
Version: 4:5.14.5-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

i often hear music with clementine in the background.
The settings are to switch off the monitor after 15 min. and the music is still
playing as wanted.

When you move the mouse and the PC is switching on the monitor again, the music
is pausing for a second.
That's annoying and did not happen on Debian 8.
It would be fine if this would have the same behaviour in Debian 10.

Thanks and best regards
karsten

Plama desktop shows but applications lack their window decoration and are

There are multiple problems around PulseAudio and it is only a gain for KDE
when it is working.
If not then Multimedia is dead.

Up to now i was not able to deinstall or stop PulseAudio in Debian Buster with
a working sound direct over ALSA.

Even i was not able to test the situation in Debian Bullseye

Bug#962178: WEILANG 24BIT

2020-06-04 Thread Karsten
Some additional curious things.

I hear music with an additional (USB) 24 Bit DA-converter that is only active
when the additional amplifier is switched on.
It has the name WEILANG 24BIT in the screenshot.

When i switch it on it is possible to hear music with it using clementine.
But it is still greyed out in phonon!

So phonon is working somehow random.
(In Debian 8 it is working much more stable.)

sound.

It's not a problem to use newer versions of Debian in server systems, because
there is no need of a desktop.
But when you want to have Multimedia and other features like working with 2
screens then only Debian 8 is working with
all features.
I think this is not your fault - is it possible that newer Versions after
Debian 8 (Jessie) are not as stable as the
years before any more?
It's like a step back to the roots in the history, where video and sound
problems are a nightmare after each upgrade of
a system.

When you agree, what can be done?

Hello,

up to KDE 4 it was no problem to configure a complete distribution of Debian on
an PC, make an tar.gz of it and deploy
this installation to other PC's.

This was working very comfortable and stable, saving much effort for installing
packages and configuration of the system.

Now in KDE 5 this seems not possible any more!
In 3 cases after the unpacking i ended in an black empty screen with only the
mouse cursor that can be moved on it.

Re: Issues Setting Up KDE Development Environment in Stretch

2018-03-01 Thread Karsten Ladner
Thanks so much for the good feedback!

So I set up a chroot environment using debootstrap for sid. I have then
used the tool schroot to access the chroot environment. I am wanting to
work on Okular, so after installing all the dependencies for Okular with
"sudo apt-get build-dep okular" I used cmake to prepare all the build
files. Once that ran successfully, I used make to build Okular. However,
when I ran "make test" all of the tests failed except one.

I am not sure why this is the case. I have included the output for "make
test" in this paste bin: https://pastebin.com/M88cr1X3

I have also included the output for "ctest -R kimgiotest -VV" in this
pastebin: https://pastebin.com/CE5Qgxue

Thanks

Issues Setting Up KDE Development Environment in Stretch

2018-02-25 Thread Karsten Ladner
Hello everyone,

I am trying to set up a development environment for KDE running Stretch. I
have been attempting to use the kdesrc-build tool to build okular but each
time I run it cmake fails to build the package. When I looked into the
cmake log file, I found that cmake fails because okular is requesting a qt
config file for a qt version of at least 5.8.0 but my system has only
5.7.1. I looked some more into it and found that an updated version is
found in the qtbase5-dev package from the testing repository.

Here is my question: How can I set up my system to develop KDE software
without messing up my installation of Debian?

Thanks in advance

Bug#799207: Kate C++ Helper Plugin

2015-09-16 Thread Karsten Malcher
Package: kate
Version: 4:4.14.2-2
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

i want to suggest to add this really nice plugin to the kate package.
With this plugin you have extended functionality in developing C++ programs,
you only find in big development environments.

Just have a look at the description and screenshots on the homepage:
http://zaufi.github.io/kate-cpp-helper-plugin.html

You can find the KDE homepage here:
http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=148606

Up to now there was the problem to get this plugin compiled.
But today i get support from the author and it is working now in Debian 8.2
(jessie).
The complete discussion can be found here:
https://github.com/zaufi/kate-cpp-helper-plugin/issues/24

Here a short description how to compile it successfull.

Install the following packages:

kdelibs5-dev
libclang-3.5-dev
libclang-common-3.5-dev
libclang1-3.5
xapian
libxapian22
libxapian-dev
libboost-all-dev
clang-3.5

(I can't say if all of them are needed)

Then you download and compile the sources with this commands:

$ git clone https://github.com/zaufi/kate-cpp-helper-plugin.git
$ cd kate-cpp-helper-plugin
$ git fetch
$ git checkout issue-23
$ mkdir build
$ cd build
$ cmake ..
$ make
$ make install

Currently i have not tested to install the files in the Debian directories i
found in
/usr/share/kde4/apps/kate/plugins/

Bug#677736: Big icon spaces in desktop sidebar

2012-06-16 Thread Karsten Malcher

Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4:4.7.4-2+b1
Severity: normal

Hello,

after upgrading from Squeeze i have a problem with the sidebars.

I am using a sidebar to add program icons for quickstart into a separate
sidebar.
This looks normally like smallspace.png.
Now in wheezy i always get really big spaces between the icons as you can see
in bigspace.png.

The interesting thing is that the big spaces will disappear if you add or
delete an icon.
But after the next login you have always big spaces again.
That's a little bit annoying.

If this is the wrong package for the problem please assign it to the correct
one.

Karsten

Bug#669658: [plasma-desktop] plasma-desktop segfaults when Notebook wakes up from suspend-to-ram

2012-04-20 Thread Karsten Kruse
Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4:4.7.4-2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I usually just close my Notebook (Thinkpad X61) at work, put it in my
backpack and go home. At home i just open it, plug in power and network
an continue working. During the transport the sleep-LED (a half moon) is
on, the system is suspended to ram, not to disk.

Every now an then plasma-desktop segfaults when i open the notebook.
Plasma-desktop gets restarted instantly, so i can continue working.
Still, it sucks.

It segfaults about one time in three, the time in hibernation doesn't
seem to matter.

I run my own Kernel, but have the same problem with Debian testings Kernel.

This is the backtrace i get from Drkonqui:

Bug#662623: KDE lost Button to shutdown

2012-03-05 Thread Karsten Malcher
Package: kdebase-workspace
Version: 4:4.4.5-7+squeeze1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

After the last system upgrade in February there are some strange effects.
One of it is that the shutdown button is missing sometimes.
I attached a screenshot of the system menu.

When i reboot it is existent again, sometimes not.

Any idea where to search for the reason?

Regards
Karsten

Bug#651950: Bug#651951: libgps20: /usr/bin/plasma-desktop crash at KDE startup while accessing libgps20

2011-12-13 Thread Karsten Hilbert
thanks for the bugreport - not sure why you've filed it against
 plasma-desktop and libgps20, though.

Well, the segfault appeared to happen when
/usr/bin/plasma-desktop attempted to use libpgs.so.20 (or so
it appeared to me) so that's why.

 libgps20 is well tested (assuming
 one uses only documented interfaces).

I'm sure.

  This is the segfault:

  plasma-desktop[4271]: segfault at 69006f ip a69bafc2 sp a698f1f0 error

In any case, please provide a full backtrace.

Installing kdebase-workspace-dbg and gpsd-dbg should help.

Yep, I've done so now over at

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=651950

(took a bit to download the symbols packages :-)

Thanks,
Karsten

Bug#651950: KDE crash log appended

Note it misses the libgps symbols.

Which package do I need to install to get them ?

I've tried but apparently failed to catch those.

It looks like KDE's bug #277036 (fixed with the commit 60d13c5) is quite
 similar;

I agree:

http://bugs.kde.org/277036

I'll cherrypick the patch, so it can be part of the next
kdebase-workspace 4.6.5-x upload (whenever it is, if any before 4.7).

Thanks.

In the short them, if you need no gps geolocation in Plasma, remove
   /usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so
   /usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-geolocation-gps.desktop
 and then relogin.

Since apt-file tells me:

kdebase-workspace-dbg:
/usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so
plasma-dataengines-workspace: /usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so

plasma-dataengines-workspace:
/usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-geolocation-gps.desktop

and I assume you don't suggest I remove the
plasma-dataengines-workspace package entirely (as that would
remove a host of core KDE packages) I assume you want me to
move the above files out of the way.

BTW, this file:

/usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-geolocation-gps.desktop

doesn't exist on my system. However, there does exist a

/usr/share/kde4/servicetypes/plasma-geolocationprovider.desktop

Just renaming

/usr/lib/kde4/plasma-geolocation-gps.so

works fine for me.

Thanks,
Karsten

Bug#644173: Kuickshow does not exist any more

2011-10-03 Thread Karsten Malcher

Package: kuickshow
Severity: wishlist

Hello together,

i am really a fan of the kuickshow and so i am really sad that it is
missing since KDE4 now.

Yes, there is Gwenview and i also use Irfanview with wine.
But no other picture viewer is so fast and has such easy to use
shortcuts for rotate and gamma correction.

The kuickshow should come back to Debian and to the world!

Please also refer to this bug/wishlist:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdegraphics/+bug/45265

What i cannot understand is why the missing library functions from the
imlib cannot be added in the source to the kuickshow statically?

For other readers - here is a workaround to get kuickshow installed in
Debian Squeeze:

Edit /etc/apt/sources.list from

deb http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free

to

deb http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.ch.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib non-free

Only let this two sources activ!

Then execute
  aptitude update
  aptitude install kuickshow

After that undo your changes or use an backup of your sources.list

Then again execute
   aptitude update

This works. :-)

Regards
Karsten

According to this [1] there is a version for KDE4 libs.

Kuickshow uses the upstream dead and buried imlib1 that also got removed from
debian long time ago.

/Sune

Hmmm - but it is working with the old libs installed parallel to the new
one.

It would be the best way when the kuickshow developer would integrate
the needed stuff from the old libraries in the sources of kuickshow.

Is this possible?

Bug#609441: Opened additional bugs for each ALSA problem

2011-02-19 Thread Karsten Malcher
Because this bug is assigned to phonon by the ALSA-Team now, i have opened bugs in ALSA for the ALSA-problems for each
soundchip:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=614074
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=614076
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=614079

In the time between i tried to manually edit the /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf
The errors changed when i try to play a sound with aplay, but it does not work
up to now.

~$ aplay /usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.2/share/gallery/sounds/drama.wav
ALSA lib confmisc.c:768:(parse_card) cannot find card '0'
ALSA lib conf.c:4170:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_driver returned error: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht

ALSA lib confmisc.c:392:(snd_func_concat) error evaluating strings

ALSA lib conf.c:4170:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_concat returned error: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht

ALSA lib confmisc.c:1251:(snd_func_refer) error evaluating name

ALSA lib pcm.c:2190:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
aplay: main:654: Fehler beim Öffnen des Gerätes: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht
gefunden

I think the tip from the ALSA-Team is correct.
It is just a problem in the ALSA-configuration.
But i don't know how to define a pcm.!default for phonon which is designed for a
default:card=Intel?

Something have been mixed up by the ALSA-Team!
You can see it because the configuration is something to run with pulseaudio, but pulseaudio is not installed in the
standard installation. And i don't want to use pulseaudio.

But there are libraries for pulseaudio installed:

~$ dpkg -l | grep pulse
ii libpulse-mainloop-glib0 0.9.21-3+b1
PulseAudio client libraries (glib support)
ii libpulse00.9.21-3+b1
PulseAudio client libraries
ii vlc-plugin-pulse 1.1.3-1squeeze2
PulseAudio plugin for VLC

When you have a look at the dependencies for libpulse0, pulseaudio should be
installed, but it isn't:
Dependencies:
0.9.21-3+b1 - libasyncns0 (0 (null)) libc6 (2 2.4) libcap2 (2 2.10) libdbus-1-3 (2 1.1.1) libgdbm3 (2 1.8.3) libice6 (2
1:1.0.0) libsm6 (0 (null)) libsndfile1 (2 1.0.20) libwrap0 (2 7.6-4~) libx11-6 (0 (null)) libxtst6 (0 (null)) pulseaudio
(0 (null)) pavucontrol (3 0.9.8)

Where and how is the alsa.conf generated?
What is going wrong in the generated configuration?

This questions must be answered to solve the problems.

Best regards
Karsten

Bug#609441: Opened additional bugs for each ALSA problem

Hi Lisandro,

Seeing your reply in [0], it's seems it's not a phonon problem.

Yes - that's saying everyone who has proved this bug,
from the ALSA-Team and the father of phonon.

But the Debian-Team has pushed it back to phonon.

Having pulse libs installed is normal, even if you don't have pulseaudio. Or
at least that's what I have in all my sistems and I have sound ;-)

Congratulations that you have sound! :-)

I only have correct sound on 1 of 6 PC's i have installed Squeeze.
And you can read many of similiar problems in the forums of Debian and

It is just coming as original deployed from ALSA?
Then it is really an (internal) ALSA problem.
Besides - my bug at ALSA is still open.

I assumed it is created somehow at the installation.
When you plugin a new sound hardware (like a webcam with sound), then
KDE is automatically doing something with the configuration so you can
use it.
What part of KDE is activ here - it can't be phonon because it is just
an API or not?

And there is also the Jack Audio Connection Kit existant.
Can it be used to solve this problems here?
Must phonon be the standard (default) Sound-API for KDE?

i think it is not a good idea to push this bug back to phonon.
Because phonon is just the KDE-Interface which cannot access the

This has nothing to do with the Debian ALSA package. File this bug
against phonon or maybe removing pulseaudio from your installation
helps.

The problem is that pulseaudio has never been installed on all of these
PC's.

The standard setup of the sound-system in Squeeze is not working!
That is the main problem.

I don't know which package is responsible for this configuration?

Bug#559349: kdebase-workspace-bin: not installable due to missing dependency libxklavier15, renders KDE unusable

2009-12-03 Thread Karsten Hilbert
Package: kdebase-workspace-bin
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After an

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

today KDE will not start anymore because this package is not installable
due to the libxklavier15 dependancy.

Due to this the apt-get dist-upgrade should not have happened so in
reality there is very likely a *dependancy on kdebase-workspace-bin*
missing somehwere else.

Using kmail either standalone or as a Kontact component, message bodies
are not shown for either local _or_ IMAP folders. Instead, a body parts
  tree is shown, e.g.:

  Description Encoding Type
Size [Folder icon] Message subject 7bit
Multipart/alternative 6.0 KB [Text Icon] body part
quoted-printable Plain Text Document 261 B [HTML Icon] body part
   quoted-printable HTML Document 4.4 KB

If this is in the frame you expect the body of the mail to appear, then the
problem is that you are seeing the wrong frame. Usually the mail contents
appear as another frame in the top or bottom of the body of the mail.

Please, check that the body frame is no minimized.

Resolved, but wishlist follows.

Yep, that's what happened.

I'd say then that the bug is that the message body becomes minimized,
and that there is:

  - No indication of this. What I did have was the resize bars for the
folder list/message body and message body/message parts bits of the
display mashed together. Which this looked like a somewhat thick
divider, it really didn't occur to me that it was a _doubled_
divider. Setting a minimum height for the message body might be a
good fix. Clicking on message components (in both the main
Kontact/KMail frame, or in a Message frame) failed to open a visible
message body.
  - No apparent way to clear the issue.
  - The message window remains minimized even after various application
and message windows have been created/destroyed multiple times. I
sort of bore with this for a few weeks (I _read_ mail in mutt, but
use Kontact largely as a calendar/PIM).
  - There is no control or menu option to make the message body window
visible.
  - There's no obvious indication that there is a message body at all,
or that it's been minimized.

I'd say the simplest fix would probably be to set some minimal size for
the body window, and reset the window to that size if it's ever smaller
than same.

Peace.

 Regards, Lisandro.

Bug#444086: konqueror: Right-click context menus missing on target=blank mailto links

2007-09-25 Thread Karsten M. Self
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.5.7-3
Severity: wishlist

When attempting to raise a (usually) right-click context menu on links
using target=_new or target=_blank hrefs (to force opening in a new
tab/window) or mailto links, the right-click context menu is disabled.

Instead, the cursor is modified to a hand + new page mini-icon.

This behavior does not appear to be user-defineable, or based on
javascript. Following HTML sample reproduces the problem:

   - save to file
   - view file in konqueror
   - right-click the No Menu link
   - No context menu appears (preference is that context menu appears).

   - right-click on Menu link
   - Context menu appears (this is expected behavior).

   - right-click on No menu mailto link
   - No context menu appears (preference is that context menu appears).

I'd appreciate if Konqueror would *NOT* disable right-click context
menus, particularly where web authors explicitly state behavior, as the
*user* should be able to specify preferred methods of managing content,
not arbitrary site authors.

Thanks.

Bug#346165: Missing man pages for kwin kwin_killer_helper kompmgr kwin_rules_dialog

2006-01-05 Thread Karsten M. Self
Package: kwin

These are required by section 12.1 of Debian policy for each program,

Bug#286883: knode: Filters should support case-insensitive regex mode

2004-12-22 Thread Karsten M. Self
Package: knode
Version: 4:3.2.2-2
Severity: wishlist

Currently, knode's filtering system does not support a case-insensitive
match option. E.g.:

   Subject = (unix|linux)

...would have to be written as:

   Subject = ([Uu][Nn][Ii][Xx]|[Ll][Ii][Nn][Uu][Xx])

...in order to provide an all-cases match. For complex filters this is
at best inconvenient.

Request: offer an option to do match case or case-insensitive match.
Insensitive as default would be my preference.

Bug#246850: knode: Data corruption loss: sent articles, scorefile

2004-05-01 Thread Karsten M. Self
Package: knode
Version: 4:2.2.2-14.6
Severity: serious

Knode appears to have a problem losing or corrupting user state data in
scorefiles and sent message folders.

I'm not sure of the precipitating event, more below.

I've recently experienced data corruption and/or loss with knode. My
scorefile has been emptied completely. The sent articles mbox is now
corrupted and doesn't properly render in either mutt (mutt -Rf file)
or knode. Headers from a corrupted article below.

I've had a few unclean exit events in the past week or so, ranging from
window manager shutdowns or segfaults, to a kernel panic. As I didn't
check Knode immediately after either, I'm not sure which if any of these
precipitated the failure. Other extant bugs indicate Knode caches data
to save on exit, which may result in data loss or corruption.

I can provide additional data / files on request.

Sample broken mbox header:

Long headers -- e.g.: long subjects, or lists of many cross-posted

This behavior should be change to allow wrapping of long headers.

Bug#230493: knode: Provide advanced functionality in scoring rules

2004-01-31 Thread Karsten M. Self
Package: knode
Version: 4:2.2.2-14.6
Severity: wishlist

The scoring feature in knode is useful but limited.

Several scoring conditions which are supported by the scorefile syntax
aren't directly supported by the scoring editor dialog. Nor is there an
advanced setting to allow scoring by additional headers, or an option
to edit the scorefile directly (preferably with versioning and/or a
syntax check as failsafes).

The scoring dialog / editor should be enhanced to provide these
features. It suffers from several other deficiencies which should also
be considered.
