KDE 3.2 screen savers are not working
Hi! After upgrading from KDE 3.1.4 to 3.2 almost all screen savers stopped working. The preview screen stays black when selecting a saver, using the 'Test' button does nothing and when I try to access 'Setup' the saver manager tells there is no configuration file available. There are actually few savers that do work in three or four categories, but the rest won't. There seems to be no pattern or a reason why these few savers work, since they are from random categories. After searching through Google, I found couple similar descriptions from people having problems with KDE 3.2 screen savers. One solution was to install package 'xscreensavers-nognome', but I have the package already installed, and all the others needed for running screen savers. Anyone have an idea how to fix this and have those savers back? Re: Qt3 libraries not found while compiling
On Monday 19 April 2004 8:38 am, Chris Cheney wrote: You might need to include --with-qt-dir=/usr/share/qt3 . Please look at the docs in kdelibs4-dev and the admin/debianrules file for more information about how to compile kde packages under Debian. I know this doesn't count as RTD (Reading The Documentation), but I find that The 'qt-mt' libs are still missing even when I tried several variations of your and Chris Cheneys compiling options. I think it would be better for me at this point to actually RTD (or perhaps RT*M) as you said, rather than posting these questions on the list whenever I got into trouble :). Thank you guys anyway, at least now I'm heading to right direction. One more question on this topic. Chris mentioned 'admin/debianrules' to look at but I couldn't find a match for that. Where to find it or what package to install to have it? What else do you advice me to read for better understanding how to compile for Debian and what packages are involved when compiling apps for KDE? Qt3 libraries not found while compiling
Hi! I've been trying to compile various programs for KDE, but every time I receive error message telling that the script (configure) can't find Qt3 libraries (qt-mt). I checked if they were installed and found them. I have also installed almost all Qt3 development packages found with 'apt-cache search' but it doesn't help to solve the problem. Can anyone help me to figure out what is going wrong here? Thanks, Ville _ Flirttaile, rupattele, juorua tai vaihda kuulumisia näytössä tapahtuvissa keskusteluissa. Konqueror fonts disappear with 3.2 upgrade
Hi! I have upgraded my KDE from 3.1.4 to 3.2 recently with 'apt-get dist-upgrade' and just about everything went fine. Just a few strange things happened: 1) When browsing files with Konqueror the file names are not visible, only underlines below the space where there sould be text. I couldn't find any obvious reason for this. Font color is set black and changing the background color won't help either. 2) Under the desktop icon filename fonts, there is a shadow like white fuzzy thing that makes really diffucult to read the names. I was also wondering why the icons in Kpanel, Kmenu and desktop have jagged black edges. This might have something to do with my display settings, but with the applications (like Konqueror) icons are rendered with smooth edges. Changing icon size wont' help. RE: Konqueror fonts disappear with 3.2 upgrade
I have upgraded my KDE from 3.1.4 to 3.2 recently with 'apt-get dist-upgrade' and just about everything went fine. Just a few strange things happened: Sorry for the previous message, solution was too near. Konqueror filemanager had a selected font, Newspaper that for some reason was not visible. Why the font is not shown is still unclear but at least now I can browse my files. Other problems solved themselves too. Desktop icon labels had ugly shadows, but now they are solid. All I did was a reboot. Kpanel and Kmenu icons have now smooth edges (antialiased?) and look good. Only thing that bothers me is that why my other account, which is of course 'root', still has icons with jagged edges? Anyone have a clue what have happened here? Failed to install window styles on KDE 3.1.4
Hi! I've been trying to figure out how to install new window styles, such as Aqua or Plastic, but I run into the same message every time I execute ./configure: checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths! Where are the includes the script needs and how can I add the paths so that the right files are found? I have little to no idea how to start solving this one. X includes missing
Hi! I tried to install the Plastik window decoration package with KDE 3.1.4, but I received message after './config' that the X-includes path is missing and that I should update the config file. I have no idea what these paths could be and how to make them available. Could anyone help me with this? Installing KDE 3.x on Woody
sources.list and apt updated itself nicely. Some of the packages were installed (at the moment don't remember which). Rest of the KDE was not. The packages that were installed via Aptitude are: -kdeartwork-misc -kdeartwork-theme-desktop / -icon -kdebase-data -kdeedu-data -kdewallpapers Is it possible to install KDE this way at all or should I try to fetch the needed packages by hand? Aptitude shows what is needed but it seems that the packages aren't there. Can anyone help me with this? Re: Installing KDE 3.x on Woody
From: Ulrich Fürst [EMAIL PROTECTED] I've got deb ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.1.4/Debian/ stable main in my /etc/apt/sources.list and installed kde 3.1.4 well. Then do apt-get update apt-get install x-window-system-core That was the solution! I just finished installing it and it's running well. Were did you obtained this source? For some reason I couldn't do the installation with any of the other sites. Interesting to find out why was that. Anyway, thank you for your help, Ville _ Flirttaile, rupattele, juorua tai vaihda kuulumisia näytössä tapahtuvissa keskusteluissa. Lataa ilmainen MSN Messenger. http://messenger.msn.fi
Installing KDE 3.x on Woody
Hi! Can anyone help me with KDE 3.x installation? I've had problems installing KDE with Aptitude and Apt. I have no previously installed version at all in my system. Last try was with 3.1.4 but the result was a bunch of broken dependencies (according to Aptitude). I had added 'download.kde.org/stable/3.1.4/Debian stable main' to my sources.list and apt updated itself nicely. Some of the packages were installed (at the moment don't remember which). Rest of the KDE was not. Is the istallation possible at all? I can't figure this out by myself since I'm new to Linux.
