Bug#794581: /usr/bin/kwin_x11: crashes when starting first window
Hi I struggled with this bug an entire afternoon on my laptop (Intel Sandy Bridge HD Graphics 3000, xorg driver updated to latest git, Mesa 10.6.3-1): the users having the (default) Breeze theme configured, most of the times couldn't even reach the desktop at login; the rare times I could reach the desktop, kwin_x11 crashed as soon as I opened the first window. Systemsettings5 crashed everytime I tried to open the kwindecoration kcm; in the kwincompositing kcm I could set the rendering backend, but the OpenGL interface control was blank. By downgrading the packages all issues disappeared. But the most interesting thing is that another box with Nvidia graphics doesn't seem to be affected by this bug: kwin_x11 doesn't crash with Breeze theme and everything seems to work as expected, even with breeze 4:5.3.2-4. The plasmashell crashes disappeared with plasma-workspace 4:5.3.2-4. I forgot to mention that I'm using DRI3, which seems a workaround https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86281 As far as I could see the problem was in kwin_x11: plasmashell didn't crash. And I'm still wondering how could the small changes in breeze between -3 and -4 cause such issues... -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Ooops! Taked a deeper look on the Nvidia box: it turned out that for some reason breeze was still at -3. Then I tried to install -4 and... same as Intel: kwin_x11 crashed immediately at session start. Bug#794754: [kde-style-oxygen-qt4] Oxygen theme not applied to qt4 (non KDE) applications
Package: kde-style-oxygen-qt4 Version: 4:5.3.2-3 Severity: normal When choosing the Oxygen style in systemsettings5 the style is not applied to Qt4 (non KDE, i.e. /usr/bin/oxygen-demo) applications. Symlinking/usr/lib/kde4/plugins/styles/oxygen.so into/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/plugins/styles/ solves the issue. Bug#727645: Please see bug #668890
Package: polkit-kde-1 Version: 0.99.1-1 Please see bug #668890 [1] for a possible solution on the dirmngr side of this issue. I'm still wondering why an user who can well shutdown the entire box should be prevented to hibernate. Furthermore, oddly enough, in my case suspend doesn't need any further authentication, while hibernation does. Re: KDE4.2 in experimental and kpackage
more details, after mine previous short message I just installed KDE 4.2 from experimental (in a sidux amd64 fully dist-upgraded from unstable) When kpackage is launched, it takes a while (much longer than in kde 3.5.10) seeming that it's loading the list of the packages (CPU load is about 95%), after some time it gives up but nothing is listed in the packages list on the left panel. the search function gives no results, also with packages installed for sure this is the output if I run it in konsole : --- kpackage(3597) pkgInterface::ifExe: Program not found: rpm kpackage(3597) KpTreeList::readTreePos: KpTreeList::readTreePos() kpackage(3597) managementWidget::readPSeparator: managementWidget::readPSeparator() kpackage(3597) KPKG::setupMenu: kpinterface[DEBt]-makeMenu kpackage(3597) DEB::makeMenu: DEB::makeMenu kpackage(3597) kpPty::breakUpCmd: kpPty::run CMD= smart query --installed pty = kpKProcIO(0x175c470) kpackage(3597) kpPty::run: return Result= 0 1437 kpackage(3597) kpPty::breakUpCmd: kpPty::run CMD= /bin/sh -c 'smart info --urls /tmp/kde-mauri/smart.list' pty = kpKProcIO(0x175c470) kpackage(3597) kpPty::run: return Result= 0 0 kpackage(3597) managementWidget::checkMarked: checkMarked() 0 0 kpackage(3597) KpTreeList::search: KpTreeList::search2 kpackage(3597) KpTreeList::search: KpTreeList::search2 kpackage(3597) kpPty::breakUpCmd: kpPty::run CMD= smart query --installed pty = kpKProcIO(0x175c470) kpackage(3597) kpPty::run: return Result= 0 1437 kpackage(3597) kpPty::breakUpCmd: kpPty::run CMD= /bin/sh -c 'smart info --urls /tmp/kde-mauri/smart.list' pty = kpKProcIO(0x175c470) kpackage(3597) kpPty::run: return Result= 0 0 kpackage(3597) managementWidget::checkMarked: checkMarked() 0 0 kpackage(3597) managementWidget::writePSeparator: managementWidget::writePSeparator() - posted also at KDE Bug Tracking System -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: evolution import kmail files ?

I don't know, however with kmail you can convert the folder to mbox format. i.e. create a new folder of type mbox, then copy all the messages into it. Then enter evolution and import single file, mbox.
Problem with Luxi mono font.
Hello, if you have debian SID (but also if you don't), could you please make the following test? apt-get install ttf-xfree86-nonfree And see if KDE recognizes Luxi Mono. 1) Kde-control-panel - Appearancethemes - fonts - fixed-width Does the font appear in the list? On my system (SID), it doesn't (bug). 2) Does it appear in the general list? Kde-control-panel - Appearancethemes - fonts - general on my system (SID), it does (no bug). If (1) does work, please also disable the bytecode interpreter in .Xresources: Xft.autohint: 1 then reboot kde. See if it works again. Now please tell me which distro you are using: sid, sarge, woody. Thank you. Maurizio

Out of curiosity: what do you need this information for ? :-) I need to know whether it's a bug or I was doing something wrong. Now I know it's a bug. I just need to decide what package to file the bug to. The mantainer of ttf-xfree86-nonfree said it can't be his fault, and the bug must be in KDE. Why do I care about luxi mono? Well, on a 1400x1050 desktop it's the only monospaced font which is not too thin on konsole. And I'm sure it used to work in the past. cheers domi
