This is exactly what unstable/testing is all about: Sorting out these kinds
of things - neither unstable nor testing are some sort of rolling release

Huge thanks to the team for all the effort, and huge thanks for the

Hi Miguel, have you full qt-5.15-1 on your system ?. I'm on testing and
i have problems with the upgrade (2020-11-07). I was finally able to do
it without breaking the system.

Basically, the steps:

$ sudo apt install libqt5webengine5 libqt5webenginecore5
libqt5webenginewidgets5 plasma-workspace-dev qtdeclarative5-dev
libkf5configwidgets-dev libqt5x11extras5-dev kwin-dev libkf5auth-dev
libkf5codecs-dev libkf5config-dev libkf5coreaddons-dev
libkf5dbusaddons-dev libkf5guiaddons-dev libkf5itemmodels-dev
libkf5package-dev libkf5plasma-dev libkf5service-dev libkf5sysguard-dev
libkf5widgetsaddons-dev libkf5windowsystem-dev libqt5x11extras5-dev
plasma-workspace-dev qtdeclarative5-dev

This (above) upgrade a lot of packages and uninstall qt5-default:amd64
(5.14.2+dfsg-6)=> This packages is not available on sid and testing.

After then I did dist-upgrade and i can upgrade the system without errors..

You can see the details : https://pastebin.pl/view/daf0660c

I hope this can help you..

Best Regards

This is really weird. Continuing with the example of dolphin:

dolphin is already the newest version (4:20.08.2-1).

But and apt full-upgrade want to uninstall a lot of packages,

It says: dolphin is already the newest version (4:20.08.2-1).

And my sources.list points to the principal debian repository:

What apt says you if you try to update a single package from KDE+Plasma stack?
For example:

sudo apt install -V dolphin

Hello Tom.

No luck, apt update keeps back almost 200 packages.

Dist-upgrade wants to remove 103 packages, many of them are programs I
use every day, like kate, dolphin, plasma-destop, virtualbox, okular,
etc...

Full-upgrade wants to remove the same 103 essential packages

It does not look good

Hi Miguel,

As I just wrote in another thread, you may need to `apt full-upgrade`
instead of only `apt upgrade` to get the new KDE.

Hi Miguel,

This situation is normal when the Debian KDE team is going through a
(relatively big) KDE upgrade. It may take a couple of weeks before all
packages have been built, tested and moved from experimental to Sid.
In my experience it is best to simply be patient and wait until apt
tells you it is safe to upgrade. It hasn't failed me so far.

Looking forward, thanks to all of the team for their work!

Thom

Current status of KDE in Sid

2020-11-03 Thread Miguel A. Vallejo
Hello.

Since a week ago (+/-) both apt upgrade and dist-upgrade want to keep
back / remove a TON of packages, most of them QT / KDE related. Since
I do not want to break the system, when will be safe to upgrade the
system?

I tried to upgrade only some programs because I use them regularly but
because they are QT based the effect is the same: apt wants to remove
a ton of packages and libraries, packages like dolphin,
kde-plasma-desktop, kmail or knotes. It doesn't seem to be the best
option right now.

What must I do? Wait some days more?

Thanks in advance

A basic KDE system (most apps) can be installed in sid today, with only
one required workaround (detailed in the FAQ at
http://wiki.debian.net/DebianKDE). This workaround is to install a
library package which was removed from the archive just after KDE was
last built.

I am not aware of any workaround to install the kdemultimedia
meta-package in current sid. Hopefully Chris will upload a fixed package
before long.

So, it seems you are saying that there are some extra steps (besides what

in consideration of these problems in kdebase & kdemultimedia. If that is

Problems with accented and non ascii characters:

The Sid version is perfectly usable, with some annoyances.

I would say thet in my case, with locally compiled kdebase, is almost
unusable for non-english writers. So keep strictly on Sid.

Ricardo - You say that it is in "the opposite of good status".

Do you mean:

Currently there is a little bug whre kdebase in sid is 'uninstallable'.
To fix this, the wiki says:

==
(2003/09/01) ksysguardd (and therefore kdebase and therefore kde-core)
is not installable in sid at the moment. This is due to
libsensors-1debian1 not being in the archive any more (bug #210276) You
will need to wait for a new kdebase to uploaded OR download this and
install it using dpkg -i

What's current status of KDE in Sid?

2003-10-04 Thread Hereon
Looking at the debian kde wiki page, it's ambiguous what the status is.

1) There is no "status" indicator.

2) There are instructions for installing for sid, which would seem to imply
that it is available.

3) An rc bug (qt-x11-free) is mentioned, but this doesn't necessarily imply
that a kde _install_ would fail.

4) "latest info" indicates a 68k build problem, but, again, this doesn't
necessarily imply that a kde install would fail (for my system: intel x86)

>From the debian kde mailing list I see:

Re: Big trouble with libqt3
From: Linus Gasser
http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2003/debian-kde-200310/msg00019.html
reading the rest of the list you can see that there are quite some troubles
for now with kde in unstable. Personally I'm running kde on stable, and it
works very well.

On my pentium system w/ a minimal Sid + minimal gnome (gnome installed cause
kde wouldn't install) I get:

# apt-get install kde-core
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kde-core: Depends: kdebase but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

=Questions:
1) Can I somehow get or force to get a minimal working KDE system on my Sid
now?

2) Perhaps by pinning or something & installing from testing, or stable?

3) If there's no way to get a minimal Sid install working right now, what is
the eta for when KDE will be installable into Sid? (And, what are the major
tasks needed for that to happen?)

Thanks for all the great work! :)

PS: Putting the ETA on the debian kde wiki would be a wonderful addition to
that page! :)
