I uploaded the package to sid. With --disable-debug, which remove all

cdbakeoven's wizard can be told not to change anything, but I think that
this may be at the cost of some of it's features, such as some of it's
konqueror integration.

At least with k3b, there is a way to simply not have the wizard change
anything. I only used cdbakeoven long enough to figure out that it does
not have my killer feature*, so I'll just take your word for it not
having the same thing :-)

D.A.Bishop

*for those who are interested, (all 2 of you), my killer feature is
being able to drag a directory into the 'project', find that it is 900+
megs, and then selectively delete subdirs and individual files until it
fits. k3b allows this, gcombust and cdbakeoven don't, dunno about
xcdroast. There, now you know more than you ever wanted to about my cd
burning habits...

It it's that big a deal to you, yes! If every distribution starts
modifying it, because they *do* have an easy to use way to setup
permissions, then pretty soon the wizard code will just be dropped
upstream. I can garuntee the authors of k3b don't like having to
maintain that anymore than you like it being there :-)

I just downloaded it, seems to work fine. Of course, I have all the
config still from the karolina version, so I didn't even see the wizard
again :-) The only thing of note is that it appears to be compiled with
some sort of debugging turned on (?). At least, it is extremely verbose
when started from the command-line. And while I *like* my apps with
debugging enabled, to make better bug reports, I know that isn't
generally the "ship" state.

I must take this chance to say thank you, I was starting to really hate
gcombust...

Thanks,

It does, and it can be a right pain.

Debian systems do have infrastructure for CD-Burning facilities to have
the correct permissions already setup (via the cdrom group), so I am
going to try and get cdbakeoven upstream to either allow the setuptool
to be seeded with answers or bypassed, at least for Debian systems.

Well, broken permissions are the #1 problem people have with cd burning on
linux, bar none. Relying upon distributions to make this
easy/simple/actually work has not been successful in the past, so the app

I wanted to package it for unstable, but I have made a first package.
But I don't think that k3b rules. The wizard sucks ! It made change on

I was curious about the "-isosize" option and had a look at
cdrecord's man page. There it says:

   -isosize
[..] Do not use this option if cdrecord reads the

Have you ever run into a situation where you actually needed

Just a note: I made the following bash script and bound it in Konqueror to the
MIME type of "directory", with "execute in an xterm" or however this option
says in english.
Now I just have to right-click a directory and select "Burn directory
on-the-fly" from the context menu and the burning process starts, as I don't
care about CD names and so on.

#--
#!/bin/bash
mkisofs -r -J $* | sudo cdrecord -v -overburn \
-eject -isosize -data -
echo Please press ENTER.
read
#--

It's simple and useful. You just have to configure your device in
/etc/cdrecord/cdrecord, so all defaults are okay.

To all: I am sure many people made such easy scripts for various uses and
bound them to mime types in konqueror (think about "wget this recursively").
How about collecting these and making a package from all this,
"konqueror-helpers" or so... I am missing a lot of useful commandline tools
from KDE and just starting them in an xterm should be a good idea.
This could even get a bigger project, with a kcontrol module to choose from
many utilities.

To the .deb-specialists and KDE package maintainers: Debian has a MIME
registry with filetype-program and filetype-action associations (like "view"
or "edit"). Is there any reason not to write a script
"update-konqueror-actions", making .desktop-files for all those mime types?
It just would have to store whichh files are autogenerated to be able to
remove them when the package is removed.
Or does apt have a directory for scripts executed after every
install/update/remove action? This would be even better, then the
.desktop-files would be always up-to-date.
There are even things like "needsterminal" in /etc/mailcap...

If anyone except me finds this useful, I will write it, that shouldn't be so
much work in python or perl ;)

kappfinder does this the other way round, it maintains a small set of
applications with hand-written .desktop files. With debian and apt and its
mime registry system (which should be far more used my package maintainers)
this should be handled smarter.

PS: There is no MIME type for "ISO-Image"? And CUE-Sheets?

personal favorite. And, yes, I know it's not available

Of course, when you want quick down-n-dirty burning,
nothing comes close to plain ole mkisofs and cdrecord.

Once I took the time to learn the commands, I found
myself using konsole more and more when I needed to
burn.

Please don't go, Bob.

Sure, but he was looking for a program that wouldn't make him run back to
Windows. I think the nice gui of cdbakeoven would be more of what he's
looking for. Nothing against calling cdrecord directly, I just don't think
that's what he was looking for.

Why not use cdrecord? It's not hard.

Make a cdimage from a folder:

mkisofs -r -J -o myfolder.iso myfolder

Get your dev numbers:

cdrecord -scanbus

For me, this gives me 0,0,0. Here's the output:

scsibus0:
0,0,0 0) 'ATAPI ' 'CD-R/RW 20X10 ' 'H.KF' Removable CD-ROM
0,1,0 1) *
0,2,0 2) *
0,3,0 3) *
0,4,0 4) *
0,5,0 5) *
0,6,0 6) *
0,7,0 7)

Now do the burn:

cdrecord -dev=0,0,0 -data myfolder.iso

You can make a wrapper script that knows your numbers and burns it all in
one easy go.

I had the same problem, trying all programs in debian. That was until I found

for a KDE program applies - it is not in debian yet. Probably on the way.
