knewsticker no more applet for panel in 3.5.6 ?

Hi!

I installed KDE 3.5.6-1 from experimental in my amd64 system.
Since that point I can´t setup my knewsticker to run in a panel anymore...
I add a new panel and try to add a new Applet, but no knewsticker in
panels, and application is wrong.
How to get the knewsticker in a panel?

MfG,
Lars Schimmer

knewsticker always starts new Konqueror window,
and has no option which would allow to change that.

I'd rather have it open just a new tab,
but other people are using different browsers (mozilla, opera etc.),
so it would be best if full congfigurability was added.

Hi,

kNewsTicker very polls sites too often, ignoring its setting for how often
to re-poll. I've been putting up with this for a while, but I just
realised that it might be related to how the ticker is restarted after using
a full-screen kde app, like konqueror in fullscreen mode. Anyway, I'm surprised
it hasn't been reported/fixed already, so it's worth reporting, I guess :)

After a while KNewsTicker will start pausing about twice per second.
It's still as responsive to scrolling/clicking as before, but
having it draw attention like that is annoying.

Running dcop 'kicker kicker restart' fixes it in a very brute-force
fashion; I believe this may be related to another bug where the entire
kicker - along with applets - starts acting extremely slowly, although
CPU usage remains low.

In other news, a way to examine it while it's running would be nice -
is that possible without haveing the kicker get in the way?
Obviously I can't attach gdb to it; is there another debugging interface?

When KNewsTicker is added to panel and there is not enough space on the screen,
the KNewsTicker applet is added on
the most righthand side. Everything is fine except it uses only the space that
is visible on the screen. When I scroll the panel so that whole KNewsTicker
window should be visible it appears that only the previously visible part of
the panel is used - the rest is gray (the rest i.e. part of the panel that was
hidden but was scrolled back to the screen). Moving KNewsTicker around the
panel helps (e.g. exchanging its position with clock) - it uses correctly all
of the space for display then.

Package: knewsticker
Version: 4:3.1.3-1
Severity: minor

If CNN.com is selected as news source, knewsticker only shows CNN.com in
the headline listing.

The only listing is a link to the CNN home page. This is useless, thus
the source should be removed.

Greetings
Marc

KNewsticker KMIX

2003-02-16 Thread Marc Schöchlin
Hi !

I installed KDE3.1 from debian-unstable...

I used the knewsticker- and kmix-kicker-applet in the previos release
from kde.org - and I like them :-)

But in the actual release I'm not able to find any packages
for these applet.

Are these applets no longer ingredients of KDE ?

Regards

Marc Schoechlin

KNewsTicker???

2001-09-06 Thread Robert Tilley
I've performed an apt-get of this interesting newsticker but cannot evaluate
it. I'm running Debian unstable and have tried the command knewsticker but
that is evidently not correct.

tillarium:/home/tilleyrw# dpkg -l | grep news
ii knews 1.0b.1-5 Graphical threaded news reader
ii knewsticker2.2.0-final-1 A News ticker for KDE
ii knewsticker-sc 2.2.0-final-2 scripts for KNewsTicker, the KDE news ticker
ii libnews-nntpcl 0.37-1 News::NNTPClient, Perl support for accessing
tillarium:/home/tilleyrw# knewsticker
bash: knewsticker: command not found

Any comments, references, or flames are most welcome at the address below.
Thanks!

Applets arn't run from the command line. Mine works fine by doing
k-configure pannel-add-applet-news ticker.

knewsticker and german umlauts

I'm experiencing some problems concerning knewsticker (KDE 2.1.2) - the
german Umlauts don't work. The character set is iso8859-1 - everywhere else
the german umlauts are displayed. Is this a bug in knewsticker?
