Re: KDE 2.1b1 and apt-get

2001-01-30 Thread Ivan E. Moore II
When can we expect to be able apt-get KDE 2.1b1? Or if it's available, what
do we need to add to our /etc/apt/sources.list?

where have you been? KDE 2.1b1 has been out for a while and has been
apt-get-able for almost as long...and as of a couple days ago KDE 2.1b2 has
been apt-get-able.

You really need to learn to check the archives.

Is this the 2.1b2 for potato that is built with debugging enabled?

actually I don't think I compiled the most recent kdelibs/kdebase packages with
debugging enabled...but yes, for potato.

the potato beta section on kde.tdyc.com (and it's mirrors) contains
*post* 2.1b2 packages.

Since the FTP server at kde.tdyc.com ceased, I've been using the following
sources.list line:

deb http://kde.tdyc.com/debian potato main crypto optional beta

However, when I do an upgrade I'm not getting the new packages installed. For
example, my installed kdm is version 2.1-20010101-0, which it thinks is the
latest, while the current one on kde.tdyc.com is version 2.1-beta2-0128-0.

Is this an issue with the version numbering, with it getting the preference
wrong? Or have I stuffed up somewhere?

Excellent, just the answer I was hoping for. Thanks.

Powerpc versions of these are lagging badly. I only have one machine (Power
Macintosh 7300/200) to do the builds. Since I have been spoiled with my 2.0.1
based KDE environment, I did not want it to go away for the several days it
normally takes me to finish the build process.

Solution... add some more disk space and have Debian potato KDE 2.0.1
installation and another install that will become KDE 2.1beta2. Well, the
first new disk I bought was DOA. I was able to exchange it for a new one
today, but I am now even further behind. Hopefully, I will have a complete
set by the end of the week.

Now, a survey question for the audience, who is using the powerpc packages
from kde*.tdyc.com and does anyone have a priority order?
