Re: Re: konqueror ( Resolved)

2007-09-01 Thread robert caterina
hy Nick, hy José,
Thanks for having taken the time to analyze my problem. I have
done what were suggested by José (i installed wireshark: very nice GUI
in fact!) and ran it, then i connected to my bank with konqueror. I
received a lot of informations in which i saw that there was a
difference in the secure protocol used during the shaking hand or
acquirement from both parts. From my side, it was the SSLv2 one but from
the bank's side it was TLS!? (it is why an error message raised:
Failed...) Thus i went in Kcontrolcenter (or in konqueror-configuration
it's the same) to modify the configuration in the crypto module: i
unchecked SSLv2 and also SSLv3 and let only the TLS checked. I made a
retry to connect to my bank and voilà IT WORKS fine!
Note that i have first tried unchecking SSLv2 and keeping SSLv3 checked
but it didn't work! Strange behaviour, isn't it?
Nick, i have tried too to connect to https://gmail.google.com/ but i get
a white window (hence no error message). Should i post in the list the
output of wirewhark?
 Cheers
robert

Re: Re: konqueror

2007-08-30 Thread robert caterina
hello José,
It seems i found something similar. You said that you used a
sniffer to follow the transaction. How did you do that? I have tcpdump
installed; what command should i type in to do the same thing? I have
read the man page of tcpdump but the way to go is not very clear to me.
It speaks about an interface to listen to. Here at home i use a
wifi-router (interface wifi0 or ath0), thus if i am right i should type
(as root):
# tcpdump -i wifi0
to begin the spying job, and then run konqueror as a simple user, is
this true?
   Cheers
 robert

hy Nick,
Thanks for the reply. Ok, there is no proof that my java's setup is
bad. In fact, why should it be true if it works with epiphany and
iceweazel! But you know one can never say...So, now i am wondering what
exactly causes the switching of the protocol from http to https though,
from which part does it come? What conditions must be satisfied for the
process to be successful? Can you explain it ? I want to understand what
is going on.
What about the konqueror behaviour with all other SSL sites? I can't
answer because i personaly never use SSL except for E-banking. So i
don't know other sites requiring it.

You suggested me the use of tcpdump to see how goes the SSL connection
but what command should i type in? (sorry i am newbye:-))

Re: Re: konqueror

2007-08-29 Thread robert caterina
hy,
Well, there is a link that allow one to simulate an user account, but
i don't know if it is what you call "demo account that you can test
with". IMHO, it is a train that show the user how to create a new
account. Now that i read again what i wrote in my last post i am in
doubt on the clearness of what i described. In fact, the URL
"https: //.../Language.jspx?language=1>" is
what is displayed in the bar address , using epiphany ou iceweazel
browsers, after clicking on the start button to initiate a banking
session but it does not appear at all doing the same thing with
konqueror! Instead the error message is displayed as i said in the
former post. The initial and immediate "redirection" to a security web
page connection (or switching of the protocol from http to https) does
not occur. Hope that i have been clear enough this time. Does this help
to understand the problem much better?

Re: Re: konqueror

2007-08-29 Thread robert caterina
Hy Kevin,
 I don't use a proxy. I connect directly through ADSL-router to the
internet. Entering manually the URL with https://, which is the URL that appears when i
click on the 'start' button on bank's homepage, don't work. Same error
message pops up. Looking at the URL address, i see that some java 's
programm is involved. Isn't it a java's related problem? Perhaps
misconfigured or some option not set correctly? I may be wrong, i am not
a programmer nor a developer, only a newbie. The problem is not so
important because i can do the job with other browsers, as i said in my
first post, but i want to be able to do it with konqueror too. So, i
joined below the output of the console, may be it can help to point the
problem.

Cheers
 robert

Hello Hendrik,
Thanks for the reply. I controled what you suggested and found that
all three TLS, SSLv2 and SSLv3 were checked. Reading in KDEhelp that
it's a normal situation i let these checked. I enabled then "best
compatibility" in cryptography but nothing changed when doing a retry to
connect. The protocol won't switch to https and the same error message
raised. I tried with others options in cryptography dialog but
"nada"-nothing new too. Nothing works. Any other ideas?
Thanks
   robert

Re: Re: Re: Konqueror (in file manager) doesn't automatically refresh file list and stats.

2005-05-24 Thread Andrew Kovacs
Hi All,

I tried creating a new test user, (as David Pye suggested) as a way of safely
auto-generating the local .kde settings, but this made no difference to the
'Konqueror not refreshing' problem.

If I cp a file (using Konsole) to a directory currently being viewed by
Konqueror, then it appears, and if I rm that same file, it disappears, but if
I view a directory in Konqueror that contains a file being downloaded,
Konqueror shows no changes. If I dual-boot into my old Mandrake 10.0 system
and do the same thing, it shows every .1Mb increment in the file size during
the download. As if in real-time.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Regards,
Andrew

Thanks David, I hadn't thought of that. I can see whether the auto-generated
settings would fix the problem without the risk of messing up my existing
user session.

I'll try it when I get home from work tonight.

Thanks Yitzhak.
I've thought of doing that, and it's looking like my next step, but I'd hoped
someone might be able to point me to the actual .rc file and setting, and I'd
learn something new in the process. :-)
Not to mention trying to avoid the hassle if it messes up my system.
