A few weeks before, I've upgraded several machines from Debian/Stretch (Kernel
4.9) to Debian/Buster (4.19, newer KDE/SDDM).
I'm also seeing the seemingly endless lag between (apparent) Resume at which
SDDM shows its wallpaper graphics and the moment when the password prompt
finally shows (sometimes it would not take input, disappear, then even later
re-appear and finally taking input).
I'm seeing this on exactly one of my machines, which is a sturdy old netbook
with a dualcore N450 Atom chip and Intel integrated graphics.
I'm *not* seeing this on Intel Core Duo, i-5, i-7 and Xeon machines. The
password
prompt shows as quickly as it used to under Debian/Stretch.
Once I'm logged in, the oldish Atom is as quick as can be expected, but it
certainly *is* somewhat slower than under Stretch. That might indeed be
due to some processor bug mitigations.
However, it seems to me that the enormous lag at the SDDM login prompt
might have a cause which is not directly (or not entirely) due to Intel
microcode updates and Kernel mitigations.
