Bug#941430: marked as done (Kalarm sound, image alarms never worked, and then text alarms stopped working)
Your message dated Sun, 23 Oct 2022 15:50:28 +0200 with message-id <4435951.LvFx2qVVIh@treadstone-71> and subject line has caused the Debian Bug report #941430, regarding Kalarm sound, image alarms never worked, and then text alarms stopped working to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what this message is talking about, this may indicate a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 941430: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=941430 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems --- Begin Message --- Package: kalarm Version: 4:18.08.3-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Kalarm worked partially at first on this fresh Buster install : sound and image alarms never worked, but text messages did. Recently, even the alarms I had programmed to appear as text messages on the screen at regular intervals stopped appearing, even though kalarm was working, and was started automatically each time I started my PC. So I stopped kalarm, started it from a console, and got these two messages : org.kde.pim.kidentitymanagement: IdentityManager: There was no default identity. Marking first one as default. org.kde.pim.kalarm: Error writing autostart file: "/home/user/.config/autostart/kalarm.autostart.desktop" I quickly found out that the ~/.config/autostart/ directory did not exist. There is a directory named autostart-scripts in .config, but no program uses it. I created the ~/.config/autostart/ directory, restarted kalarm from the console, and this time only got the first message : org.kde.pim.kidentitymanagement: IdentityManager: There was no default identity. Marking first one as default. Text messages I newly created worked, but old messages I had created to appear at regular intervals still did not appear at the scheduled time at all. Sound and image alarms still do not work. -- System Information: Debian Release: 10.1 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 5.2.0-0.bpo.2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE= (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages kalarm depends on: ii kio 5.54.1-1 ii libc62.28-10 ii libgcc1 1:8.3.0-6 ii libkf5akonadicontact54:18.08.3-1 ii libkf5akonadicore5abi2 4:18.08.3-5 ii libkf5akonadimime5 4:18.08.3-1 ii libkf5akonadiwidgets5abi14:18.08.3-5 ii libkf5alarmcalendar5abi1 4:18.08.3-2 ii libkf5auth5 5.54.0-2 ii libkf5calendarcore5abi2 4:18.08.3-1 ii libkf5calendarutils5 4:18.08.3-2 ii libkf5codecs55.54.0-1 ii libkf5completion55.54.0-1 ii libkf5configcore55.54.0-1+deb10u1 ii libkf5configgui5 5.54.0-1+deb10u1 ii libkf5configwidgets5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5contacts5 4:18.08.3-1 ii libkf5coreaddons55.54.0-1 ii libkf5crash5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5dbusaddons55.54.0-1 ii libkf5globalaccel-bin5.54.0-1 ii libkf5globalaccel5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5guiaddons5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5holidays5 1:5.54.0-1 ii libkf5i18n5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5iconthemes55.54.0-1 ii libkf5identitymanagement518.08.3-2 ii libkf5itemmodels55.54.0-1 ii libkf5jobwidgets55.54.0-1 ii libkf5kdelibs4support5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5kiocore5 5.54.1-1 ii libkf5kiofilewidgets55.54.1-1 ii libkf5kiowidgets55.54.1-1 ii libkf5libkdepim-plugins 4:18.08.3-2 ii libkf5libkdepim5 4:18.08.3-2 ii libkf5mailtransport5 18.08.3-2 ii libkf5mailtransportakonadi5 18.08.3-2 ii libkf5mime5abi1 18.08.3-1 ii libkf5notifications5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5pimcommon5abi2 4:18.08.3-2 ii libkf5pimtextedit5abi2 18.08.3-1 ii libkf5service-bin5.54.0-1 ii libkf5service5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5textwidgets5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5widgetsaddons5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5windowsystem5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5xmlgui55.54.0-1 ii libphonon4qt5-4 4:4.10.2-1 ii libqt5core5a 5.11.3+dfsg1-1 ii libqt5dbus5 5.11.3+dfsg1-1 ii libqt5gui5 5.11.3+dfsg1-1 ii libqt5network5 5.11.3+dfsg1-1 ii libqt5widgets5 5.11.3+dfsg1-1 ii libstdc++6 8.3.0-6 ii perl 5.28.1-

KDE: Default to HDMI sound output when available
Hi all, Every day I connect TV with speakers to my laptop via HDMI cable. When connected, it doesn't change to new output. I have to manually change to HDMI audio. When disconnected, sound output default to laptop speakers. Audio Volume Settings panel, on Advanced tab, has "Automatically switch all running streams when a new output becomes available" but this doesn't work, when I plug in HDMI, nothing changes, my default audio sink stays the same (laptop speakers). How to change audio settings, so it does one new thing as below: * when HDMI Audio output is available, switch to it Nothing else is needed really. I use Debian 11. -- With kindest regards, Piotr. ⢀⣴⠾⠻⢶⣦⠀ ⣾⠁⢠⠒⠀⣿⡁ Debian - The universal operating system ⢿⡄⠘⠷⠚⠋⠀ https://www.debian.org ⠈⠳⣄
Bug#984933: powerdevil brakes play of sound when returning from energy saving of the monitor
Package: powerdevil Version: 4:5.14.5-1 Severity: normal Hello, i often hear music with clementine in the background. The settings are to switch off the monitor after 15 min. and the music is still playing as wanted. When you move the mouse and the PC is switching on the monitor again, the music is pausing for a second. That's annoying and did not happen on Debian 8. It would be fine if this would have the same behaviour in Debian 10. Bug#941430: Kalarm sound, image alarms never worked, and then text alarms stopped working
KAlarm image alarms have now been fixed for the forthcoming KDE Applications 19.12 release, by commit https://cgit.kde.org/kalarm.git/commit/?h=release/19.12=2e2b77207eb1e4b631da94633484d0695e1dc0cd -- David Jarvie. KDE developer. KAlarm author -- http://www.astrojar.org.uk/kalarm
Bug#941430: Kalarm sound, image alarms never worked, and then text alarms stopped working
Package: kalarm Version: 4:18.08.3-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Kalarm worked partially at first on this fresh Buster install : sound and image alarms never worked, but text messages did. -- System Information: Debian Release: 10.1 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 5.2.0-0.bpo.2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE= (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages kalarm depends on: ii kio 5.54.1-1 ii libc62.28-10 ii libgcc1 1:8.3.0-6 ii libkf5akonadicontact54:18.08.3-1 ii libkf5akonadicore5abi2 4:18.08.3-5 ii libkf5akonadimime5 4:18.08.3-1 ii libkf5akonadiwidgets5abi14:18.08.3-5 ii libkf5alarmcalendar5abi1 4:18.08.3-2 ii libkf5auth5 5.54.0-2 ii libkf5calendarcore5abi2 4:18.08.3-1 ii libkf5calendarutils5 4:18.08.3-2 ii libkf5codecs55.54.0-1 ii libkf5completion55.54.0-1 ii libkf5configcore55.54.0-1+deb10u1 ii libkf5configgui5 5.54.0-1+deb10u1 ii libkf5configwidgets5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5contacts5 4:18.08.3-1 ii libkf5coreaddons55.54.0-1 ii libkf5crash5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5dbusaddons55.54.0-1 ii libkf5globalaccel-bin5.54.0-1 ii libkf5globalaccel5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5guiaddons5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5holidays5 1:5.54.0-1 ii libkf5i18n5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5iconthemes55.54.0-1 ii libkf5identitymanagement518.08.3-2 ii libkf5itemmodels55.54.0-1 ii libkf5jobwidgets55.54.0-1 ii libkf5kdelibs4support5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5kiocore5 5.54.1-1 ii libkf5kiofilewidgets55.54.1-1 ii libkf5kiowidgets55.54.1-1 ii libkf5libkdepim-plugins 4:18.08.3-2 ii libkf5libkdepim5 4:18.08.3-2 ii libkf5mailtransport5 18.08.3-2 ii libkf5mailtransportakonadi5 18.08.3-2 ii libkf5mime5abi1 18.08.3-1 ii libkf5notifications5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5pimcommon5abi2 4:18.08.3-2 ii libkf5pimtextedit5abi2 18.08.3-1 ii libkf5service-bin5.54.0-1 ii libkf5service5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5textwidgets5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5widgetsaddons5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5windowsystem5 5.54.0-1 ii libkf5xmlgui55.54.0-1 ii libphonon4qt5-4 4:4.10.2-1 ii libqt5core5a 5.11.3+dfsg1-1 ii libqt5dbus5 5.11.3+dfsg1-1 ii libqt5gui5 5.11.3+dfsg1-1 ii libqt5network5 5.11.3+dfsg1-1 ii libqt5widgets5 5.11.3+dfsg1-1 ii libstdc++6 8.3.0-6 ii perl 5.28.1-6 ii phonon4qt5 4:4.10.2-1 kalarm recommends no packages. kalarm suggests no packages. -- no debconf information

This is due to Phonon remembering the hardware setup in ~/.kde/share/config/phonondevicesrc and not honoring a global /etc/kde4/phonondevicesrc. The attached patch (which we've been using for ages) makes Phonon load a global phonondevicesrc. You can then, on every machine, install a /etc/kde4/phonondevicesrc listing all that machine's devices (and even assign suitable preferences to them) so the user's ~/.kde/share/config/phonondevicesrc remains essentially empty. Then KDE stops notifying about hardware configuration changes because it will only ever use the machine's configuration plus an empty user's one. See, for example, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=218533, for an upstream report. -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.6 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.10.42.wap (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages kde-runtime depends on: ii kde-runtime-data4:4.8.4-2 ii kdelibs5-plugins4:4.8.4-4 ii libasound2 1.0.25-4 ii libattica0 0.2.0-1 ii libc6 2.13-38+deb7u3 ii libcanberra00.28-6 ii libexiv2-12 0.23-1 ii libgcc1 1:4.7.2-5 ii libjpeg88d-1+deb7u1 ii libkcmutils44:4.8.4-4 ii libkdeclarative54:4.8.4-4 ii libkdecore5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkdesu5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkdeui5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkdewebkit5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkdnssd4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkemoticons4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkfile4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkhtml5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkidletime4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkio5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkmediaplayer44:4.8.4-4 ii libknewstuff3-4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libknotifyconfig4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkparts4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkpty44:4.8.4-4 ii libnepomuk4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libnepomukquery4a 4:4.8.4-4 ii libntrack-qt4-1 016-1.1 ii libopenexr6 1.6.1-6 ii libphonon4 4:4.6.0.0-3 ii libplasma3 4:4.8.4-4 ii libpulse-mainloop-glib0 2.0-6.1 ii libpulse0 2.0-6.1 ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqt4-declarative 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqt4-network 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqt4-script 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqt4-svg 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqt4-xml 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqtcore4 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqtgui4 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqtwebkit42.2.1-5 ii libsmbclient2:3.6.6-6+deb7u4 ii libsolid4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libsoprano4 2.7.6+dfsg.1-2wheezy1 ii libssh-40.5.4-1+deb7u1 ii libstdc++6 4.7.2-5 ii libstreamanalyzer0 0.7.7-3 ii libstreams0 0.7.7-3 ii libx11-62:1.5.0-1+deb7u1 ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.13-1+deb7u1 ii oxygen-icon-theme 4:4.8.4-1 ii perl5.14.2-21+deb7u1 ii phonon 4:4.6.0.0-3 ii plasma-scriptengine-javascript 4:4.8.4-2 ii shared-desktop-ontologies 0.10.0-1 Versions of packages kde-runtime recommends: ii virtuoso-minimal 6.1.4+dfsg1-7 Versions of packages kde

The problem is that if knotify is configured to use the KDE sound system running with an M-Audio Delta 1010LT sound card, it somehow manages to set the source of the clock of the sound card to S/PDIF. Then *I guess* the notifications hangs because as there is no clock in the sound card, nothing can "evolve" including the software that plays the audio itself. This also means that the clock source can't be changed until knotify apps are killed. How does knotify manages to change the source clock I really don't know. I understand this can be a very hard bug to solve without the proper hardware, so please do not hesitate in asking me for more info/compile stuff, etc. Reproducible: Always Actual Results: Sound hanged, can't change audio card's master/source clock. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.2.21+edid (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_AR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_AR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages kde-runtime depends on: ii kde-runtime-data4:4.10.5-1 ii kdelibs5-plugins4:4.10.5-1 ii libasound2 1.0.27.2-1 ii libattica0.40.4.2-1 ii libc6 2.17-7 ii libcanberra00.30-2 ii libexiv2-12 0.23-1 ii libgcc1 1:4.8.1-8 ii libjpeg88d-1 ii libkactivities6 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkcmutils44:4.10.5-1 ii libkdeclarative54:4.10.5-1 ii libkdecore5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkdesu5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkdeui5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkdewebkit5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkdnssd4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkemoticons4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkfile4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkhtml5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkio5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkmediaplayer44:4.10.5-1 ii libknewstuff3-4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libknotifyconfig4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkparts4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkpty44:4.10.5-1 ii libkxmlrpcclient4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libnepomukcore4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libntrack-qt4-1 016-1.1 ii libopenexr6 1.6.1-7 ii libphonon4 4:4.6.0.0-3 ii libplasma3 4:4.10.5-1 ii libpulse-mainloop-glib0 4.0-6 ii libpulse0 4.0-6 ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqt4-declarative 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqt4-network 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqt4-script 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqt4-svg 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqt4-xml 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqtcore4 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqtgui4 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqtwebkit42.2.1-6 ii libsmbclient2:3.6.16-2 ii libsolid4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libsoprano4 2.9.2+dfsg.1-1 ii libssh-40.5.4-1 ii libstdc++6 4.8.1-8 ii libx11-62:1.6.0-1 ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.14-1 ii nepomuk-core-runtime4:4.10.5-1 ii oxygen-icon-theme 4:4.10.5-1 ii perl5.14.2-21 ii phonon 4:4.6.0.0-3 ii plasma-scriptengine-javascript 4:4.10.5-1 ii shared-desktop-ontologies 0.11.0-1 Versions of packages kde-runtime recommends: ii virtuoso-minimal 6.1.4+dfsg1-7 Versions of packages kde-runtime suggests: ii djvulibre-bin 3.5.25.4-1 ii finger

Bug#907139: vlc: VLC starts without GUI (Videos opens with sound only) after upgrade to VLC version 3
Hi Sebastian, Reinhold! Sorry for the delay, I have been trying to reply this for days now. What I don't know is if it fits the stable release criteria, as it's a very very corner case. If that's ok for stable release managers I could try a patch for sure. I'm trying to contact the stable release managers now. This is a digitally signed message part.

Bug#894427: parley: Sound does not play in editor
Package: parley Version: 4:17.08.3-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I started editing a new dictionary whose filename is '1', clicked view > sound, and specified path 1_files/File-en-wordname.ogg' When I clicked play, I saw error message GStreamer; Unable to pause - "file:///1_files/File:En-us-wordname.ogg" GStreamer; Unable to pause - "file:///1_files/File:En-us-wordname.ogg" Error: "Resource not found" and there was no sound. While testing the bug in more details for this bug report, I found out a few more strange things: 1. other languages don't seem to work (en, de) if I set them explicitly in the setup dialog of the game. Explicit "fr" doesn't help either. 2. per default I had "Default" selected, assuming it means French, but if I set it back I get the following strange message from Gcompris: "Error: this activity requires that you first install the packages with GCompris voices for the locale 'NU'!" I don't know what "NU" stands for, but I've surely not installed or setup it anywhere: $ locale -a C de_DE.utf8 en_IE.utf8 en_US.utf8 fr_FR.utf8 pl_PL.utf8 POSIX 3. the environment of my daughter is KDE in French with the following language variable set: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=fr_FR:fr (not only in the shell, also in KDE itself) 4. Other games work with sound and in French, so I think my setup is in general correct. Let me know if you need more information. I attach the .xsession-errors of my daughter, it contains quite a lot of warnings around GCompris. Package: libkf5notifications5 Version: 5.23.0-1 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Every time a notification comes that has a sound associated (even when previewing it in the system settings), the master volume (called "built-in audio analog stereo" here) is turned to 100%, but the volume of the other running applications remains the same. phonon and sound cards
Hi, the system of my computer is Debian Sid kde AMD64, I noticed recently that the going out sound my high speakers were very weak. By looking at the configuration of the system of Phonon I notice that my sound card is not any more recognized and that the sound passes by Alsa, the only engine which I have at my disposal is "vlc", it is surprising because an alsamixer or a kmix recognize me well my sound card HDA intel . This anomaly is it a bug? Or exists it a package which corrects this problem? In advance thank you. Philippe Merlin
Muon and sound problems
On my 386 unstable laptop, Muon has to be killed with CA-Esc as the close button seems to be unrecognised. Nothing appears in konsole at that stage if I start it from there On my amd 64 unstable desktop, Muon has recently started to complain: "This operation cannot continue since proper authorisation was not provided" Polkit-kde-agent-1 is installed and reinstalled and I have rebooted. This is doubly irritating as I am also falling foul of a bug which maximises the sound volume every time kde pops up a notification dialog. KDE's bug tracker implies this is fixed, but not for me. Some people who listen on headphones find it quite upsetting; for me it means I had better remember to turn the speakers off if I don't want to wake the household when working at night. Does anyone have any suggestions? Google has given me mostly background noise rather than solutions. anxiousmac
Bug#801006: Jessie DVD#1 fails to install KDE Phonon dependencies sound-theme-freedesktop and (possibly) libcanberra-pulse
Package: phonon Version: 4:4.8.0-4 Severity: normal Tags: d-i Dear Maintainer, Hello and thanks for a great Linux and an otherwise stellar KDE installation. Installing Debian 8/Jessie from the official DVD #1 with KDE chosen as the desktop environment omits some dependencies of KDE's audio manager, Phonon. Specifically, Phonon offers buttons to test the left and right speakers, which depend on the sound-theme-freedesktop package - yet out of the box on my system, these were missing, so I thought I had more serious problems with my audio hardware. I have also seen it reported online - when searching for the above fix - that libcanberra-pulse is also required for this. However, I had installed that before I knew about the sound theme, so I have no way of knowing whether it is definitely involved too. It would be worth checking. So in total my solution was aptitude install libcanberra-pulse sound-theme-freedesktop again with uncertainty over whether the libcanberra package was really needed. Certainly the sound theme was required for the left/right wav files, etc. I also have problems with the bundled Konqueror not playing audio, but I have yet to determine the cause of this, so it'll be filed separately if I do. Bug#801044: Fwd: Jessie DVD#1 fails to install KDE Phonon dependencies sound-theme-freedesktop and (possibly) libcanberra-pulse
Package: konqueror Version: 4.14.2 Severity: normal Tags: d-i Dear Maintainer, The Konqueror installed - and set as the default browser - by Jessie 8 DVD#1 seems to have a dependency issue: * Its default rendering method is WebKit, * yet the WebKit requires gstreamer and the corresponding KDE Phonon backend phonon-backend-gsteramer, which are not installed automatically. (Only phonon-vlc installed as default.) This leads to Konqueror being unable to play audio for e.g. HTML5 out-of-the-box, and a lot of hunting through Google being required to find this solution - it's taken me a couple of hours. Perhaps sensible dependencies should be added, so that all the default settings for audio work right away, such as this and the sound theme mentioned in my other report. I'm not sure if this is more an issue for the KDE team, so I apologise if so, but I err on the side of informing Debian first (and KDE requires me to register for some reason.) Bug#757368: kde-runtime: With homedirs on NFS, KDE complains about removed sound devices when logging into different hardware
Package: kde-runtime Version: 4:4.8.4-2 Severity: normal Tags: upstream patch On a setup with NFS-shared home directories, KDE will complain about allegedly removed sound devices if a user logs into a machine with a different hardware setup. This is due to Phonon remembering the hardware setup in ~/.kde/share/config/phonondevicesrc and not honoring a global /etc/kde4/phonondevicesrc. The attached patch (which we've been using for ages) makes Phonon load a global phonondevicesrc. You can then, on every machine, install a /etc/kde4/phonondevicesrc listing all that machine's devices (and even assign suitable preferences to them) so the user's ~/.kde/share/config/phonondevicesrc remains essentially empty. Then KDE stops notifying about hardware configuration changes because it will only ever use the machine's configuration plus an empty user's one. See, for example, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=218533, for an upstream report. -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.6 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.10.42.wap (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages kde-runtime depends on: ii kde-runtime-data4:4.8.4-2 ii kdelibs5-plugins4:4.8.4-4 ii libasound2 1.0.25-4 ii libattica0 0.2.0-1 ii libc6 2.13-38+deb7u3 ii libcanberra00.28-6 ii libexiv2-12 0.23-1 ii libgcc1 1:4.7.2-5 ii libjpeg88d-1+deb7u1 ii libkcmutils44:4.8.4-4 ii libkdeclarative54:4.8.4-4 ii libkdecore5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkdesu5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkdeui5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkdewebkit5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkdnssd4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkemoticons4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkfile4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkhtml5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkidletime4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkio5 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkmediaplayer44:4.8.4-4 ii libknewstuff3-4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libknotifyconfig4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkparts4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libkpty44:4.8.4-4 ii libnepomuk4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libnepomukquery4a 4:4.8.4-4 ii libntrack-qt4-1 016-1.1 ii libopenexr6 1.6.1-6 ii libphonon4 4:4.6.0.0-3 ii libplasma3 4:4.8.4-4 ii libpulse-mainloop-glib0 2.0-6.1 ii libpulse0 2.0-6.1 ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqt4-declarative 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqt4-network 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqt4-script 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqt4-svg 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqt4-xml 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqtcore4 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqtgui4 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 ii libqtwebkit42.2.1-5 ii libsmbclient2:3.6.6-6+deb7u4 ii libsolid4 4:4.8.4-4 ii libsoprano4 2.7.6+dfsg.1-2wheezy1 ii libssh-40.5.4-1+deb7u1 ii libstdc++6 4.7.2-5 ii libstreamanalyzer0 0.7.7-3 ii libstreams0 0.7.7-3 ii libx11-62:1.5.0-1+deb7u1 ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.13-1+deb7u1 ii oxygen-icon-theme 4:4.8.4-1 ii perl5.14.2-21+deb7u1 ii phonon 4:4.6.0.0-3 ii plasma-scriptengine-javascript 4:4.8.4-2 ii shared-desktop-ontologies 0.10.0-1 Versions of packages kde-runtime recommends: ii virtuoso-minimal 6.1.4+dfsg1-7 Versions of packages kde-runtime suggests: ii djvulibre-bin 3.5.25.3-1 pn finger none pn icoutils none -- no debconf information Index: phonon/kded-module/phononserver.h === --- phonon/kded-module/phononserver.h (revision 3581) +++ phonon/kded-module/phononserver.h (revision 3603) @@ -63,6 +63,7 @@ void askToRemoveDevices(const QStringList devList, int type, const QListint indexes); private: +void loadDeviceConfig(const PS::DeviceKey key, QString cardName, QString iconName, int initialPreference, bool isAdvanced); void findDevices(); void findVirtualDevices(); void updateDevicesCache(); Index: phonon/kded-module/phononserver.cpp === --- phonon/kded-module/phononserver.cpp (revision 3581) +++ phonon

Could you please provide some extra information? How are you testing the output? Which sound backend are you using (gstreamer or vlc)? Which output for that backend are you using? I installed a debian operating system on a new computer this weekend and I have found out that this is still happening under vlc backend despite having vlc-plugin-pulse installed. No further configuration is performed and the audio goes through pulseaudio Installing the aforementioned packages solves the issue. Currently I'm using pulseaudio I don't have neither libcanberra-pulse nor sound-theme-freedesktop installed and the sound in my system is working, that's with gstreamer and with vlc backends, so I really don't see a reason to add the dependencies. I requested some additional information before: How are you testing the output? Which sound backend are you using (gstreamer or vlc)? Which output for that backend are you using? Additionally it would be useful if you can provide a list of packages that were installed when you fixed your sound output, this information can be retrieved from the /var/log/dpkg.log file. Bug#737420: kmix: When reducing/ muting and then increasing again overall sound settings, banshee stays muted
Hi, I can't reproduce the issue here, but, banshee provides a mpris2 interface to kmix that's not enabled by default (which probably should). Maybe enabling it solves your issue. I this blogs the kmix developers talk about the mpris2 support: http://kmix5.wordpress.com/2013/07/26/kmix-mission-statement-2013/ http://kmix5.wordpress.com/2011/12/30/winter-of-69-welcome-kmix-v4/ So, to enable you need to add MPRIS2 to the backends used by kmix, so: kwriteconfig -file kmixrc -group Global -key Backends -type string ALSA,MPRIS2 If you are using ALSA, and: kwriteconfig -file kmixrc -group Global -key Backends -type string PULSE,MPRIS2 if you are using pulseaudio, I haven't tested the pulseaudio setup, though. Be prepared to manually edit your ~/.kde/share/config/kmixrc if something goes wrong (just delete the line that starts with Backends= ). Bug#718033: knotify manages to change clock source of the sound card hanging it
Package: kde-runtime Version: 4:4.10.5-1 Severity: important Tags: upstream Control: forwarded -1 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322900 This was a hard one to detect. The problem is that if knotify is configured to use the KDE sound system running with an M-Audio Delta 1010LT sound card, it somehow manages to set the source of the clock of the sound card to S/PDIF. Then *I guess* the notifications hangs because as there is no clock in the sound card, nothing can evolve including the software that plays the audio itself. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.2.21+edid (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_AR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_AR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages kde-runtime depends on: ii kde-runtime-data4:4.10.5-1 ii kdelibs5-plugins4:4.10.5-1 ii libasound2 1.0.27.2-1 ii libattica0.40.4.2-1 ii libc6 2.17-7 ii libcanberra00.30-2 ii libexiv2-12 0.23-1 ii libgcc1 1:4.8.1-8 ii libjpeg88d-1 ii libkactivities6 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkcmutils44:4.10.5-1 ii libkdeclarative54:4.10.5-1 ii libkdecore5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkdesu5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkdeui5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkdewebkit5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkdnssd4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkemoticons4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkfile4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkhtml5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkio5 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkmediaplayer44:4.10.5-1 ii libknewstuff3-4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libknotifyconfig4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkparts4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libkpty44:4.10.5-1 ii libkxmlrpcclient4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libnepomukcore4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libntrack-qt4-1 016-1.1 ii libopenexr6 1.6.1-7 ii libphonon4 4:4.6.0.0-3 ii libplasma3 4:4.10.5-1 ii libpulse-mainloop-glib0 4.0-6 ii libpulse0 4.0-6 ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqt4-declarative 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqt4-network 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqt4-script 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqt4-svg 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqt4-xml 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqtcore4 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqtgui4 4:4.8.5+dfsg-2 ii libqtwebkit42.2.1-6 ii libsmbclient2:3.6.16-2 ii libsolid4 4:4.10.5-1 ii libsoprano4 2.9.2+dfsg.1-1 ii libssh-40.5.4-1 ii libstdc++6 4.8.1-8 ii libx11-62:1.6.0-1 ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.14-1 ii nepomuk-core-runtime4:4.10.5-1 ii oxygen-icon-theme 4:4.10.5-1 ii perl5.14.2-21 ii phonon 4:4.6.0.0-3 ii plasma-scriptengine-javascript 4:4.10.5-1 ii shared-desktop-ontologies 0.11.0-1 Versions of packages kde-runtime recommends: ii virtuoso-minimal 6.1.4+dfsg1-7 Versions of packages kde-runtime suggests: ii djvulibre-bin 3.5.25.4-1 ii finger 0.17-15 pn icoutils none -- no debconf information -- debsums errors found: sh: /usr/sbin/dpkg-divert: No existe el fichero o el directorio -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#690291: Amarok randomly stops playing sound when song automatically changes using phonon-backend-gstreamer
I just tried to remove gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly (and had to install gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 to make phonon able to play mp3 files again) : no change, Amarok just stops on the same songs (the bug is not so random as I first thought, see below). I'll send you a full report of Amarok's debug output but for now, I noticed that it stops everytime it tried to play an ogg file after one or several mp3 files. It didn't stop between several ogg files, or several mp3 files, or if it played an mp3 file after an ogg file. After noticing that, I inserted other file types in the same playlist (flac and wma - I have no aac). Here are my findings : - a flac file is played correctly after an mp3 file - Amarok stopped if it tried to play an ogg file after a flac file, or a flac file after an ogg file (note that at this point, I had to reinstall gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly to play wma files) - a wma file is played correctly after an mp3 file or an ogg file - Amarok stopped if it tried to play an ogg file after a wma file So, at least with the dozen files I made my tests with, the problem really occurs only if Amarok tries to play an ogg file after any other type of file, or some types of file after on ogg file (mp3, flac, but not wma). I briefly tried bangarang, and it had similar problems, but with flac files this time. I need to test it further to give you precise results like the ones about Amarok. With these new clues, it's obvious that this bugreport should at least be renamed. Bug#690291: Amarok randomly stops playing sound when song automatically changes using phonon-backend-gstreamer
- a wma file is played correctly after an mp3 file or an ogg file - Amarok stopped if it tried to play an ogg file after a wma file Ok, I'm able to confirm and reproduce this bug here now. I created my own debug output and gstreamer is in fact throwing a critical error silently in the background. I took an OGG music file. Loaded it into Audacity. Exported it as FLAC and then put the flac file after the ogg file in the playlist and Amarok fails to play the flac file. If you double-click on the flac file in the playlist then Amarok plays the flac file just fine. This is really a bizarre bug, but I'm guessing maybe the phonon gstreamer backend isn't switching gstreamer plugins properly. Since this bug does not happen with the VLC phonon backend, I've filed this bug upstream against the gstreamer phonon backend. You don't need to do any more testing for now, thanks for help. -David -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#689993: phonon-backend-vlc: no sound in amarok
On 13.10.2012 09:27 (Saturday), Modestas Vainius wrote: Please read the log of bug #683477 [683477] and follow advices given there. Especially pay attention to vlc-plugin-pulse if you're using PulseAudio or try reordering sound devices in Phonon settings. Phonon upgrades have a nasty habbit of breaking / renaming / reordering sound devices hence breaking current configuration. I don't have pulse audio. But what fixed the problem partially for me, was your advice of reordering the sound devices in the phonon settings: I had to move the first working device up the the Music Category (with Prefer) so it is the very first device. As long as there is another first device which is not working and shaded gray (it says This device is currently not available.), and therefore the working device is the second one in the list, there is no sound. I think there is a bug, because phonon should use the first *available* device in the list (as it obviously did in version 0.5). While in version 0.6 it seems to use the first device regardless if it is available or not. Right now this behavior breaks amarok when I use the same config files on different computers (via NFS or synced). Cheers, Simon pgp5iemqszB5l.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#690291: Amarok randomly stops playing sound when song automatically changes using phonon-backend-gstreamer
Package: phonon-backend-gstreamer Version: 4:4.6.0.0-2 Severity: critical When using phonon-backend-gstreamer, Amarok randomly stops playing sound at song change. In that case, the time counter goes on for 3 seconds, then stops. It seems completely random : it can happen at every song, or can play several songs without stopping. Also, it occured only on automatic song change so far, not on manual song change. Note that only the sound output stops, all the rest of Amarok's interface is still responsive; and sometimes, if you wait a couple of minutes or so, the beginning of the song briefly plays for a second, and then both the sound and the time counter abruptly jump quite precisely to where the time counter really should be. In any case, manually changing song or position in the time counter makes the music play again instantly. This makes Amarok really unusable for music listening (let alone be used for a party) thus breaking it severely as a music player. Using phonon-backend-vlc gets rid of this problem, but it's not a satisfying workaround either, since it have other problems : the impossibility of manipulating sound output volume - completely breaking both replaygain and fade - and some crackling at the beginning of playback. Both problems affect every software based on VLC (I intend to submit another bug report about these issues if it hasn't been done already). Also please note that it doesn't seem to be a hardware-related problem, since the two computers I use Amarok on (a manually assembled desktop PC, and a Lenovo ThinkPad X200s laptop) present the same behavior. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages phonon-backend-gstreamer depends on: ii gstreamer0.10-alsa 0.10.36-1 ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-base 0.10.36-1 ii libc62.13-35 ii libgl1-mesa-glx [libgl1] 8.0.4-2 ii libglib2.0-0 2.32.3-1 ii libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0 0.10.36-1 ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.36-1 ii libphonon4 4:4.6.0.0-2 ii libqt4-opengl4:4.8.2+dfsg-2 ii libqtcore4 4:4.8.2+dfsg-2 ii libqtgui44:4.8.2+dfsg-2 ii libstdc++6 4.7.1-7 ii multiarch-support2.13-35 Versions of packages phonon-backend-gstreamer recommends: ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good 0.10.31-3 Versions of packages phonon-backend-gstreamer suggests: ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.19-2+b2 -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
