Re: Upgrade problem 3.1.4 - 3.2 on Woody

2004-02-10 Thread Michael Peddemors
Topic seemed right, so I thought I would add my own issue..

When upgrading woody/kde 3.1.4 to 3.2, everything went well..
(Course apt-get upgrade wasn't going to work flawlessly, because of added
package dependencies)

Only problem I had, was when upgrading organizer, that old kalarm/korganizer
dependency issue seemed to come back.. I had to do a apt-get remove
korganizer and apt-get remove kalarm to get korganizer to install.

Oh, and when I started korganizer, it didn't startup with my previously active
calendar file. Other than that, no problems so far..

Well, except for a Konqueror bug I just reported visiting:

:)

Upgrade problem 3.1.4 - 3.2 on Woody

2004-02-03 Thread Isildur
Hello folks,

Thanks for releasing 3.2 for Woody.

I'm running into a packaging problem during the upgrade
(from deb http://download.kde.org/stable/latest/Debian stable main).

Preparing to replace kdelibs-data 4:3.1.4-0woody1 (using
.../kdelibs-data_4%3a3.2.0-0woody1_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement kdelibs-data ...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/kdelibs-data_4%3a3.2.0-0woody1_all.deb (--unpack):
 trying to overwrite `/usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-kudesigner.desktop',
which is also in package kugar
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

some output deleted

Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/kdelibs-data_4%3a3.2.0-0woody1_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Some errors occurred while unpacking. I'm going to configure the
packages that were installed. This may result in duplicate errors
or errors caused by missing dependencies. This is OK, only the errors
above this message are important. Please fix them and run [I]nstall again
Press enter to continue.

What's the best way to work around this?
Should I do 'apt-get update --force-yes' or is there a better option?
Is this a known problem or should I file a bug-report.

TIA,

Frans Pop

P.S. Please CC me on this address as I can't currently get to my usual
address.

Sorry to reply to my own mail. Solved the problem by doing:
# cd /var/cache/apt/archives
# dpkg -i --force-overwrite kdelibs-data_4%3a3.2.0-0woody1_all.deb
# apt-get upgrade

Packaging probably still should be fixed though...

Rest of update went smooth. 3.2 looks great! (What's all this red text ... is
kMail doing spell checking on the fly now? ... wow!)

Just a few little things I have noticed:
- Application buttons in Panel for Konsole and Konqueror are broken
  - when clicked I get The desktop entry file
/usr/share/applnk/Internet/konqbrowser.desktop has no Type=... entry.
  - when I open properties I get The file
file:/usr/share/applnk/Internet/konqbrowser.desktop doesn't exist
(fixed by manually adding the buttons and deleting the old ones)
- I seem to have lost some customization:
  - changes in toolbar for kMail are gone
  - Tab bar for Konsole was set to top, is now bottom again

Try to remove kugar. I had a similar problem with k3b. After removing
it, kdelibs-data installed without any problems.

BTW, I love the Lord of the Rings, too. But in a mailing list your
real name is appreciated. In fact, some people do not answer mails
without real names.

cheers, Tobias

I agree; my normal accounts _do_ have my real name but, as I said, because of
the upgrade problem I could not get to them. This is my secret account.
