My own compilation was slower. Seems there was a really great job done for the .debs, but I really miss wine which gets broken by this installation of KDE3.0.1 from .debs. Konq starts up in about a second, same with kmail, konsole, etc. KControl, which used to take 5~10 seconds, now pops up almost instantly. Browseing in konq is a dream, with /. appearing almost as fast a I click on the link. Basically, it is far and away better than 2.2.2, for me. I do have a ton of fonts, which probably is unusual (i.e., >500), so that might have slowed 2.2.2 down. Oh, and I just "downgraded" from running cvs HEAD to the unofficial debs, and the debs run *faster* than my self-compiled ones. Konqueror takes a hair longer to start; it can't be much at all but it feels wrong if you have been using 2.2.2 for a while. The same applies to kmail.
