Same thing here much faster as KDE2.2.2. I am talking about KDE3.0.1
from debs. My own compilation was slower.

Seems there was a really great job done for the .debs, but I really miss
wine which gets broken by this installation of KDE3.0.1 from .debs.

I use kde from the kde3.01 debian packages. My personal experience is that is
is fast as hell. I _feels_ like twice as fast as the kde222 packages.

In contrast to the other two people's experience, it seems much faster to me.
Konq starts up in about a second, same with kmail, konsole, etc. KControl,
which used to take 5~10 seconds, now pops up almost instantly. Browseing in
konq is a dream, with /. appearing almost as fast a I click on the link.

Basically, it is far and away better than 2.2.2, for me. I do have a ton of
fonts, which probably is unusual (i.e., >500), so that might have slowed
2.2.2 down.

Oh, and I just "downgraded" from running cvs HEAD to the unofficial debs, and
the debs run *faster* than my self-compiled ones. Probably has to do with
not having --enable-debug=full on everything ;-)

HTH and HAND!

I can't speak for the .debs, because i compiled from source... overall it
seems a bit more sluggish. Konqueror takes a hair longer to start; it can't
be much at all but it feels wrong if you have been using 2.2.2 for a while.
The same applies to kmail. It seems to be slightly speedier starting up. bu
ti have no figures for you, sorry :)

The Liquid theme doesn't slow it down at all, you will be glad to hear.

Feels just about the same here... I was expecting a little more
performance-wise, but Mosfet's Liquid theme is just about enough reason
to upgrade to KDE3 :-)

kde3 performance.

2002-05-29 Thread Robert Lindgren
I was just a little curious about how kde 3.0.1 performs against 2.2.2?
Are there any noticeable differences in performance? Like speedier
startup times, snappier apps?

Some of you brave people, who has installed kde3 maybe can give me a
clue.

Cheers
/Robert
