Scroll wheel page scrolling modifier key
Hi all, I don't find the damn setting for the scroll wheel page scrolling modifier. In KDE's listboxes, it's ctrl, as I like, but in konqueror, since KDE 3.2, I think, it's shift now. It was ctrl and I can't find where this is being configured. The most disturbing thing is the different behaviour in konqueror html views and the rest of KDE. By the way, inside the konqueror dirtree it's ctrl... Does anyone know where this is (I might be blind, but I looked several times)? Or is this hardcoded shit? Greetings, Thomas Ritter

Re: scroll wheel
On this subject, has anyone found something for Linux that replicates the functionality of UniversalScroller (http://www.bebits.com/app/1359) which duplicates Logitech's Mouseware. Basically, clicking and holding the middle mouse button allows you to scroll up and down using normal mouse movements. It's nice enough that I prefer to use it even when I have a (true) scroll mouse (which I don't at the moment). I've done some 'net searches and haven't found anything. Re: scroll wheel
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I've been using my mouse wheel in KDE 2.x, and I don't have imwheel installed. The only thing I needed was to configure XF86Config-4 to handle the mouse wheel: Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" Option "Device""/dev/psaux" Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection The two relevant options are the protocol, which most be compatible with the wheel, and the ZAxisMapping, which tells X to map the wheel. I have an intellimouse from MS, and I use the wheel as the middle button (so I don't have to emulate the third buuton) Most KDE applications respond to the wheel (konqueror, kmail, konsole, etc.) Hope this helps. Scrolling under Kmail, Konqueror, Opera, Mozilla,gvim, Abiword. Basically all KDE and GTK apps. Unfortunately, I do not run netscape. Re: scroll wheel
For the mouse to work in KDE, remove imwheel. Place these lines in your ~/.Xdefaults to get Netscape working: Netscape*drawingArea.translations: #replace\ : ArmLink() \n\ : ArmLink() \n\ ~Shift: ActivateLink() \n\ ~Shift: ActivateLink(new-window) \ DisarmLink()\n\ Shift:ActivateLink(save-only) \ DisarmLink()\n\ Shift:ActivateLink(save-only) \ DisarmLink()\n\ : DisarmLinkIfMoved() \n\ : DisarmLinkIfMoved() \n\ : DisarmLinkIfMoved() \n\ : DescribeLink() \n\ : xfeDoPopup()\n\ : ActivatePopup() \n\ Ctrl: PageUp()\n\ Ctrl: PageDown()\n\ Shift: LineUp()\n\ Shift: LineDown()\n\ None: LineUp()LineUp()LineUp()LineUp()LineUp()LineUp()\n\ None: LineDown()LineDown()LineDown()LineDown()LineDown()LineDown()\n\ Alt: xfeDoCommand(forward)\n\ Alt: xfeDoCommand(back)\n Netscape*globalNonTextTranslations: #override\n\ Shift: LineUp()\n\ Shift: LineDown()\n\ None:LineUp()LineUp()LineUp()LineUp()LineUp()LineUp()\n\ None:LineDown()LineDown()LineDown()LineDown()LineDown()LineDown()\n\ Alt: xfeDoCommand(forward)\n\ Alt: xfeDoCommand(back)\n - -Evan On Sunday 06 May 2001 15:29, James Smith wrote: > Does anyone know of a way to get a scroll wheel on a mouse working in KDE > without using an external program like imwheel? > > JW, > James Smith

Yes, follow the same instructions for imwheel but do not load it. I don't know if you need X4 though. Actually KDE2 mouse wheel support somehow conflicts with imwheel. They can run at the same time but then you can only scroll per full page in KDE2 apps. Without imwheel apps like netscape and acroread4 have no wheel support in an easy way. That said, some apps require special resources to work, notably netscape. You can find the resources with google.com; sth like 'wheel mouse netscape' If you still have X3.3.x, without imwheel I beleive you have to explicitly set resources for all/most apps. I never got anything besides netscape to scroll with X3.x.x and never ran KDE at all under X3.x.x. HTH Gordon Sadler

Does anyone know of a way to get a scroll wheel on a mouse working in KDE without using an external program like imwheel? JW, James Smith
