setting KDEDIRS

2004-11-01 Thread martin f krafft
[please CC me on replies]

I am trying to figure out how to best set KDEDIRS for Debian's KDE.
I tried pam_env and the kdm init.d script, but as soon as startkde
is called, the environment is cleaned and I can't figure out where
or how.

So the only way to set $KDEDIRS for startkde is to modify
/usr/bin/startkde directly, which is horrible.

Am I overseeing something? Please advise!

settting it in a Xsession.d script should work (done by both
debian-edu-config, and desktop-profiles)

There is per-user possibility as a alternative to what Bart has said. Put a
shell script in ~/.kde/env/, and it will be sourced at login time.

HTH, because I can't recall if there was another possibility to make this
system wide, without using the xsession stuff.

Greetings.

Well, I definitely want it system-wide. Anyhow, From what
I understand, this was only added in 3.3. Sarge still has 3.2.3...

This is a good idea.

Out of curiosity, where is the environment reset??? Inside KDM?

/me really wanted to use pam_env for this. :(

Oh, sorry. It's true, this is only for =3.3. :-(

I just want to add, that it seems that is possible to do this system wide. I
found this in startkde:

# Source scripts found in localprefix/env/*.sh and prefixes/env/*.sh
# (where localprefix is $KDEHOME or ~/.kde, and prefixes is where KDE is
installed)

I have variables set in /etc/environment set in my KDE session.

Hi people,

I found another way to set KDEDIRS

orion:exa$ cat /etc/X11/Xsession.d/95kde-environment
export KDEDIRS=/usr:/usr/local/kde

It seems to work, but who knows?

Thanks,
