Very good, when can we expect the first kde3 packages 2B on the mirrors? :-)

Actually, I meant ALL old applications, meaning everything before KDE in sid.
So KDE will enter sid with no applications at all.
Some might come very fast, if someone adopts any packages or if some old
package maintainer builds new.
I might adopt some packages, but the procedure to become a debian developer
appears so complicated and slow that I don't feel it is something to try.

Karolina was talking about "old applications", which I assumed to mean
KDE 2. While those will be removed from the archive, they will still be
on people's systems, and they should be able to have both libqt2 and
libqt3 installed (and perhaps different versions of the base KDE
libraries too) without anything breaking.

Yes, but who cares about libqt2 ? We're using libqt3 :-) and all the kde2/qt2
stuff gets replaced as soon as KDE 3.1 is in sid. libqt3 is already thre in
3.1.1, just not ported over with gcc-3.2.

Thanks, I'll move it into the libarts1 package then. Anyone else experienced
this problem with running Alsa ? I guess it's only happening with Alsa as

Found a small problem with the sid packages. I'm sorry I can't provide
too much more info but knotify was continuously crashing after
installing the packages.
The little into I could get said X11::Arts (hope that's right) could not
find libx11globalcomm.la which was in the libarts-alsa in the main sid
archive.

After installing the 'Ralf' debs I found the file lurking in
libarts1-dev. I know there's been a conversation regarding .la and .so
files but it might pay to either move it out of the dev package or add a
dependency.

Cheers,

Yes, the are some major changes eg glibc6 in sid that is different from woody!

thats important eg for kopete and there are much more libraries that are
different in sid versus woody.

but i think the importent thing is if you want to guarantee a stable build you
should relay on packages compiled for the target system.

I am using libxine 0.9.13, but otherwise exactly the same problem. It is
possible to have libxine0 and libxine1 both installed, so this should be no
problem except for the person who want to recompile kdemultimedia.

Would it not be better if the libxine1 dev library would be called
libxine1-dev, now when the new library is incompatible with the old?

Anyway, the g++ 3.2 transition has started full time, according to an
announcement, so I guess that means that all KDE packages going to SID will
be transitioned. And all old applications will become non-working.

I will stay with the old g++ 2.95 until it becomes too troublesome.

kdemultimedia is missing due to xine_artsplugin compile error with the latest
xine version. [EMAIL PROTECTED] is trying to take care of that but
there's currently no other way than I guess grabbing my last backported
version and pinning it. Although, you could have libxine0 (wich is 0.9.8 )
and the current libxine1 (which is the one not working) installed in
parallel. The last working version is still in testing so you can use that
instead of the backported one.

kdeaddons can't be compiled likewise because it requires kdemultimedia.

For additional packages, the ones in applications/ from the woody deb should
work and you should be able to use both deb lines at the same time.
