Bug#393329: After seemingly successful install on Turion X2 system, freeze on boot
Additional data: 100% of the time, the system freezes on shutdown with either "-h" or "-r" when given from an xterm. If I'm at a VT, it works normally. I'm going to try to compile my own kernel to debug this. Bug#394697: linux-image-2.6.18-1-sparc32: oops in sysfs file open on boot, root mount impossible
Meelis Roos a écrit : Package: linux-image-2.6.18-1-sparc32 Version: 2.6.18-2 Severity: important 2.6.18 kernel fails to boot on my sparc32 system: Sun SparcStation 5/170, 256M RAM, onboard SCSI with disk, cdrom and external tape drive. First it oopses on sysfs file open and then waits forever for root disk. 2.6.17 booted fine. I observed the same exact problem on the SparcStation 5 emulated by QEMU. I haven't reported it because I first thought it was a bug in QEMU. Note that there as been a lot of changes on the ESP driver in 2.6.18, the main one being: commit 411aa5540536feace62c97478a8ea5dab7469377 Author: David S. Bug#394753: linux-image-2.6.18-1-486: system clock runs at double speed
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-1-486 Version: 2.6.18-2 Severity: important Hi, with kernel 2.6.18 the system clock runs as twice as fast as it should on my AMD k6/400, ASUS P5A board. Kernels <= 2.6.17 work fine. I tried the following boot parameters known as workarounds for chipset bugs: notsc no_timer_check disable_timer_pin_1 noapic acpi=noirq notsc but none of them helped. If this is a hardware bug, feel free to change this bug report into a feature request of working around the hw bug automatically. The boot log is attached. Bug#394697: linux-image-2.6.18-1-sparc32: oops in sysfs file open on boot, root mount impossible

If I could reproduce the problem locally, it would be much easier for me to debug it. Basically, you need qemu 0.8.2, or better, the CVS version (it fixes a bug making the host CPU to be used at 100% even when the emulated CPU is idle), an iso image of the installer and some disk space. Then create an image of the disk with: qemu-img create hda.img 1G Start the installation with: qemu-system-sparc -hda hda.img -cdrom d-i-sparc.iso -boot d You will need to remove the '-boot d' argument after the first reboot, so that the boot occurs on the hard-disk and not the cd-rom. The installation takes some time (as on a real system), if you want I can provide you an image of an already installed system. -- .''`. Sure, and for the CD burner, windows is data too, right ? We all know you are of the opinion to consider firmware as data and ignore the fact that there is indeed source code, but i fear that this position will not stand long before a judge should we ever go this way. Notice how this same argument was used to demostrate that the firmware is not a derivative work of the kenrel (and vice-versa), but it is not enough to make the said firmware DFSG free. The above license fails two DFSG clauses, the no source one and the modification rights one. > FWIW, I fully agree with the position of the release team (but I still > believe that not distributing the other firmwares is stupid and does not > help our goals). I also mostly agree with the result of the release team position, i just find it sad that we had to vote a resolution which contradicted directly in at least two places what is essentially the position of the release team and the kernel team, while a better and cleaner resolution was being prepared. Bug#335505: Bug #335505 fixed in 0.44 (initramfs-tools: initramfs/conf/modules contains the list of current directory)
close 335505 0.44 thanks Reading the buglog, and the following entry in the changelog of the package: initramfs-tools (0.44) unstable; urgency=high "O partigiano portami via" * hooks/kernelextras: Really fix #335505. it seems that the bug was fixed in 0.44, but the maintainer used "notfound" instead of the "close" command to [EMAIL PROTECTED]; the notfound command just removes the information that the bug was found in 0.44, if such information was present. It does not record that the bug is fixed (not present) in 0.44. Hence, properly closing bug. -- Lionel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Re: Bug#393786: [sparc] CD-ROM support broken in esp driver
The try with serial console did detect both SCSI devices fine but failed to mount CD. Digging around showed that iso 9660 filesystem was not available in /proc/filesystems and could not be modprobed either. The isofs module should be available in the initrd. Is it not? No. It is only present for sparc64 but missing for sparc32 (again with 17. Oct netinst image, todays not tried). -- Meelis Roos ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#393894: [sparc] CD-ROM support broken in esp driver
The isofs module should be available in the initrd. Is it not? It is. The errors I get in dmesg when trying to mount CD-ROM look like that: It's present for sparc64 but missing for sparc32 - fro 20061017 netinst image. -- Meelis Roos ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#394608: linux-image-2.6-686: the system halts on boot with 2.6.17 - 686 only
Package: linux-image-2.6-686 Version: 2.6.17 Severity: important the system halts during boot, most often during attempt to detect unexistent /dev/hdb. in the rare cases the boot process passes this hop, it finally hangs when hald is been actived. this happens only with the 2.6.17 kernel, in the 686 flavour. 486 works ok. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-2-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
