Well, just to confirm, I have upgraded the latest installation to
linux-image-2.6.21-2-686 and upon powering down, then restarting the
system using the newest kernel image the unit worked just fine and DRM
was initialized. However, upon leaving the system idle for a period of
time it locked solid, so it seems to be something to do with DPMI and
the kernel.
On testing further I power cycled the machine and rebooted using
linux-image-2.6.18-4-686, then procedded to allow the power saving
functions of DPMI to execute as normally configured in the screensaver.
However everything worked perfectly and the machine resumed normally.

So the problem definitely seems to be with kernels --> 2.6.21-2-686
interacting with the radeon driver 1:6.6.3-2 to cause the machine to
completely lock, can't ssh in or anything.

Bug#442103: initramfs-tools: update-initramfs fails with lilo and a degraded raid1 array

AFAIK grub does not support LVM on top of md raid1 whereas lilo does?
The installer allows to setup LVM on top of raid and as far as I
remember then suggests usage of lilo.

Just as explanation / usage scenario:
I use lvm on top of raid1 on a laptop and run the raid in degraded state
most of the time. From time to time I attach an external usb disk and
resync it. (incremental resync that is)

IMHO lilo should provide an option in lilo.conf corresponding -H.

Bug#444455: linux-image-2.6.18-5-686: After kernel update from security.d.o hibernate fails

2007-09-28 Thread Alexander Kotelnikov
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-5-686

Justification: breaks the whole system

Resuming from hibernate after kernel change fails due to certain
checks/mismatches. I would be nice to get some kind of warning about
such possibilities while upgrading.

PAE for Debian Kernel 2.6.23

2007-09-28 Thread Ritesh Raj Sarraf
Hi,

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=c673f1a9d994de501b674b2bb6a48bd5e912afe0

Since the above mentioned commit is in 2.6.23, are we going to see
linux-image-686-pae series kernel packages now ?

It would be great to have -pae separate from -bigmem.

Re: error in linux-headers-2.6.23-rc2-*

2007-09-28 Thread nobert

Hi maks,

you lucky one.

I don't see this as feature. My opinion is: this is a matter of bad
behavior.
Providing packages that have unresolved / unresolvable dependencies is some
kind of terrorism to the users. And it is stupid at all.

Cheers
