Bug#525232: Please enable CONFIG_ITCO_VENDOR_SUPPORT

Bug#525247: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686: iwl3945 fails to detect WPA TKIP wireless network
Package: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686 Version: 2.6.29-3 Severity: normal My wireless network is no longer detected with 2.6.29 whereas it used to work with 2.6.26. The network is a WPA 1 TKIP. I noticed that neither lib80211_crypt_ccmp nor lib80211_crypt_tkip are loaded... which may indicate some kind of problem with the renaming of the 80211 API in 2.6.28 (IIRC), similar to what is reported in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=487445 (although for a different driver). I tried and load these modules manually before or after modprobing iwl3945, with no more success. In any case, this looks like a regression. Thanks in advance. relation of trunk-amd64 to trunk-common/ kvm problems
Thanks to some earlier advice here, I'm running linux-image-2.6.29-trunk-amd64; I kept crashing with earlier kernels. I tried to build the kvm modules but ran into errors (using module-assistant). It couldn't find some header files. These files seem to be in the -common package but not -amd64: ii linux-headers-2.6.29-trunk-amd64 2.6.29-1~experimental.2~snapshot.13314 Header files for Linux 2.6.29-trunk-amd64 ii linux-headers-2.6.29-trunk-common2.6.29-1~experimental.2~snapshot.13314 Common header files for Linux 2.6.29-trunk Could anyone explain to me what the relation is between those 2 packages? I suspect that one needs both sets of include directories to buid properly, but m-a is only picking up the -amd64 stuff. I've googled and looked at the Debian Wiki, but haven't found anything. Also, if you have any tips on getting kvm running, I'd love that too--even if the tip is known not to work with 2.6.29. I'd appreciate cc on replies. Thanks. Bug#525296: other stuff I tried
First, I updated to 2.6.26-2-686 (from Lenny), but this has the same problem for me. No command I know will set that NIC to full duplex under that kernel. I tried building a custom 2.6.29.1 kernel next, but it panics when it can't mount /dev/md0 as the root file system. I'm not in the mood to try to figure out how all this initrd stuff works. Too much work. Next, I rebooted into etch's 2.6.18-6-686 kernel (this is an etch-lenny box, with the old kernel still there). This works fine for me, as far as I can tell so far. The NIC goes into full duplex mode due to the up sleep 5; mii-tool -F 100baseTx-FD eth0 line I have in /etc/network/interfaces, and all the things that should be running (NFS, Samba) appear to be running. Then, I tried building upstream tg3 drivers against the 2.6.26-2-686 kernel headers. I was able to build tg3-3.92n and tg3-3.98e modules successfully, but I was not able to build 3.77e or 3.81e, nor was I able to build the tg3.{c,h} sources yanked out of a kernel.org 2.6.18.8 source tarball -- all of those failed with messages like error: implicit declaration of function 'netif_poll_disable' (and many more). I rebooted into 2.6.26-2-686 again, unloaded the tg3 driver module, and loaded the tg3-3.92n and tg3-3.98e modules in turn, and attempted to set the NIC to full duplex using mii-tool and ethtool. All of these attempts failed. The NIC was left in half duplex mode after bouncing up and down for a few seconds. (Except in the case of 3.98e + ethtool, where the command aborted with an error without even touching the NIC.) For now, I am running on 2.6.18-6-686 since this kernel's tg3 driver supports what I need. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#525351: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686: audio broken on x40
Package: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686 Version: 2.6.29-3 Hi, On my x40, audio is now broken with 2.6.29-1-686. I believe that this is a Debian-specific regression, as a stock Linus kernel (tag v2.6.29) doesn't have this problem. Then I suppose I'll try building custom kernels, or maybe I'll try grabbing the tg3 driver from 2.6.18 or 2.6.8, back when things worked. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- On Thu, 2009-04-23 at 15:10 -0400, Greg Wooledge wrote: [...] Next, I rebooted into etch's 2.6.18-6-686 kernel (this is an etch-lenny box, with the old kernel still there). This works fine for me, as far as I can tell so far. The NIC goes into full duplex mode due to the up sleep 5; mii-tool -F 100baseTx-FD eth0 line I have in /etc/network/interfaces, and all the things that should be running (NFS, Samba) appear to be running. So you enable autonegotiation and then use mii-tool to override it behind the driver's back, and you expect this to work somehow? Forget it; this is not a bug. Either use autonegotiation and fix whatever is wrong with the other end of the link, or disable autonegotiation and force settings with ethtool. Bug#524699: e1000e NVM mutex contention warnings

I have to say I find this way of testing very user-unfriendly and would like to see it gone as soon as possible. Hi Ben, checking linus' tree and davem's current net-2.6 tree shows that the code was removed as of commit: 0a834a36ac92375cd82d9e4fe4f571e257997d6a it was put in 2/14/2009, and was included in 2.6.30-rc1 by linus. Thanks. I had a look but somehow missed that this was already on the way out in 2.6.30. are you suggesting that we maybe try to push to -stable too? If you now have the information you need about contention, then it seems to me that it would be worthwhile to remove the unnecessary warnings. If you don't want to submit a stable update then I can patch it out in the Debian kernel package. Ben. I am fine with pushing this patch to -stable. -- Cheers, Jeff -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
