Sometimes the boot process hangs, when starting Lenny. I have the root
system installed on a dm-crypt partition. It hangs soon after entering the
passphrase, when it has checked the ext3 filesystem, saying it is clean. But
after that it doesn't go on with
the bootprocess.

I have made a backup of the whole /var/log folder right after the oligatory
restart. If you need it, i will send it to you.

2.6.29-4 FTBFS on sparc

2009-05-04 Thread Jurij Smakov
Hi,

2.6.29-4 failed to build on sparc:

https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=linux-2.6;ver=2.6.29-4;arch=sparc;stamp=1241387254

I can investigate, but if you know off the top of your head what can
be causing it (missing zImage file after the build), please let me know.

On a related note, I've noticed that XVR-500 and XVR-2500 Sun framebuffer
drivers are not included in 2.6.29-4 config, but were present in Lenny
kernel. We will need to re-enable those, also I would like to enable
most of the FB drivers (right now only a handful of sparc-specific ones
is enabled) as we are getting ready to get rid of CONFIG_PROM_CONSOLE,
which causes problems on Niagara. Please let me test these changes before
reuploading.

Thanks.

09:31 waldi so the original code path was correct

guess one has just to look up in the repo what the build rule was.

Hmm. I remember we had an issue late in Lenny with sparc that was caused
by a change in make-kpkg. Turned out sparc was still using that.
Could this be caused by that or has sparc been switched over since then?

Bug#526942: [linux-image-2.6.26-2-686] sound broken on intel ich3

2009-05-04 Thread Tim Wiedemann
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-2-686
Version: 2.6.26-15
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
On a Thinkpad T23 with Intel ICH3 Soundcard the system will emit static noise
as soon as arts is started and until it shuts down due to overload. Mplayer
will also produce this behaviour as sound is garbled by the static noise.
With 2.6.26-1 everything worked flawlessly. When installing alsa-base the
behaviour returns to normal and sound works fine. The same problem was
experienced by me when running kernel 2.6.29 from unstable-here as well:all
was fine after installing alsa-base

Does anyone know where the firmware for the p54 driver comes from?

It seems to live at http://prism54.org/firmware/, but there is no
statement about the origin of those files, nor their copyright or
licensing status. I've tried contacting the owners of that site, but
 only received bounces/silence.

I can speak only for the firmware for the FullMAC chipsets. I had made
a collection from the windows drivers. Intersil at that time was very
aware of the website and never received any complaints so I took it
hosting the firmware alone was OK.

I take it the SoftMAC driver guys took the same approach.

The normal Debian init scripts (like mtab.sh) take special care to continue
working in that case and the initramfs-tools documentation does not

Right, I see. I believe the Debian patch system makes our changes
prominent enough, and such notices are certainly not expected in patches
submitted upstream (see Documentation/SubmittingPatches).

Bug#511412: clocksource/0: Time went backwards

2009-05-04 Thread Hans van Kranenburg
Using the Xen clocksource seems to be somewhat buggy yes, I also
experienced lots of related problems until I decoupled the domU clock
from dom0.

Some time ago I edited the Xen page on wiki.debian.org about this, so I
think it could be helpful to provide a link for others who are searching
the bug archives about this issue:

Package: linux-image-2.6.26-2-alpha-generic
Version: 2.6.26-15

Hello,
I have the same problem on a DP264 using either the generis or the smp
kernel.
Downgrading the kernel to 2.6.18(etch) fixes it for me as well.
Dowgrading openssl and openssh does not.

2.6.26 kernel tg3 driver works ok with BCM7504 on a different DP264
running etch.

Bug#523735: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools: please consider supporting the experimental kernel-package out of the box

2009-05-04 Thread Cipta Herwana

It'll be very helpful if the hook script included with initramfs-tools
warns us that it isn't generating the initramfs, as people might not
expect it. Something like this:

7c7,10
 [ -z $2 ] || exit 0
---
 [ -z $2 ] ||
echo warning: not running update-initramfs, see make-kpkg(1) and
 /usr/share/doc/kernel-package/README.gz for details
 exit 0
