Bug#559535: update-initramfs -d should also delete the backup file

2009-12-05 Thread Hannes von Haugwitz
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.93.4
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

update-initramfs -d -k 2.6.31.6 should not only delete
/boot/initrd.img-2.6.31.6 but also the maybe created backup file
/boot/initrd.img-2.6.31.6.bak.

I would provide a patch if needed.

2009-12-05 Thread Matei Conovici

Subject: atl1c: hangs when NIC link goes down
Package: linux-2.6
Version: linux-2.6.32-rc8
Severity: important

After unplugging the ethernet cable, the system will hang in a matter of
seconds.
It will also hang if I shutdown the interface, unplug the cable, then ifconfig
eth0 up
again.

The same problem occurs in vanilla 2.6.32 (reported the problem to atl1c
maintainer).

This patch doesn't help. http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/11/6/12

System is an ASUS Eee PC 1005HA. The card is:

Removal of cramfs support

2009-12-05 Thread Bastian Blank
Hi folks

I intent to remove the cramfs support from the kernel and the
cramfsprogs package. Current kernels supports squashfs, which is a far
more advanced replacement.

It is currently in use by the debian-installer for mips and the powerpc
floppies.

Okay, lets do this with an ABINAME of trunk and without stable ABI.

cramfsprogs is still used by some for embedded systems, and the kernel
module can still be useful when examining such an embedded image.

Bug#559619: /etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs-tools should ignore errors from update-initramfs -d

2009-12-05 Thread Marc Haber
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.93.4
Severity: normal

Hi,

/etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs-tools exists with an error if
update-initramfs -d returns with an error. This could happen if one
tries to purge a kernel image wihch has its initramfs already removed.

Please consider adding a || true to the update-initramfs call in the
script or to only invoke update-initramfs if the initrd.img is still
there.

Greetings
Marc

Hi folks

I intent to remove the cramfs support from the kernel and the
cramfsprogs package. Current kernels supports squashfs, which is a far
more advanced replacement.

It is currently in use by the debian-installer for mips and the
powerpc

floppies.

Ambiguous pronoun: Which fs is currently in use for mips and powerpc
floppies? cramfs or squashfs?

If cramfs, won't removing it (cramfs) make those two installation
modes unusable?

If needed. However mips should be able to use initramfs and powerpc
floppies are disabled.

Ok, is it possible to source $CONF at an appropriate place to use
$version?

I use kernel-package to avoid manual setup, I don't want to run
update-iniramfs manually each time some update need to build a new
ramdisk.

Thanks.
