Hello,

I'm trying to setup a DomU running a router (Vyatta VC6, "live virtualization
ready" version), but NATed packets seems to be dropped at Dom0 level (with
tcpdump on DomU all look fine) and I obtain a lots of "Attempting to checksum a
non-TCP/UDP packet, dropping a protocol 1 packet" in Dom0's syslog.
I also saw than Jeremy Fitzhardinge fix that bug the 19 May, so maybe we should
update the kernel package :
http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2010-05/msg01004.html

Thanks in advance,
Olivier

When a non-default console font size is selected (e.g. by running
"setfont Uni3-Terminus20x10"), nouveau displays corrupted glyphs
rendering the terminal useless.

This has been fixed by commit c82b88d578847909797945824851a6a9a84f9c20:

drm/nouveau: Fix fbcon corruption with font width not divisible by 8

NV50 is nice and has a switch that autoaligns stuff for us. Pre-NV50,
we need to align input bitmap width manually.

This does not apply as is, attached is a patch that can be applied
against 2.6.33.4 (I haven't looked at the Debian kernel yet). I
verified that the fix for nv50_fbcon.c works, but I cannot test the one
for nv04_fbcon.c due to lack of hardware. Note that the same patch has
been applied in Ubuntu, see also
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/544739.

Hi,

The systemtap tool, when executed, searches for the vmlinux image in /boot/.
The currently shipped vmlinux image in Debian is with the -dbg package that
installs it into /usr/lib/debug.

Could you please handle a symlink to /boot for vmlinux ?

This is required for systemtap. I have manually verified it by creating
the symlink and it works.

Without it, following error is seen:

Package: linux-image-2.6.26-2-486
Version: 2.6.26-19lenny2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

After upgrading linux-image-2.6.26-2-486 from 17lenny1 to 19lenny2, I
started experiencing 100% reproducable system lockups on a VIA C7
system. No errors in the logs, no oops, no BUG, nothing - just a hard
lock. No keyboard LED response and no sysrq functionality worked.

Sometimes the system wouldn't complete the boot process without
freezing. Sometimes it would last three minutes or so before
freezing. I could reproduce the lockup with "cat /dev/zero > file".
Every time, within 10 seconds, the system would freeze.

After a lot of trial, error, and searching, I discovered that the
e_powersaver module was being loaded and the lockups went away if I
unloaded it.

The kernel build help text indicates that the module shouldn't ever be
used, and is highly dangerous:

This adds the CPUFreq driver for VIA C7 processors. However, this
driver does not have any safeguards to prevent operating the CPU out
of spec and is thus considered dangerous. Please use the regular ACPI
 cpufreq driver, enabled by CONFIG_X86_ACPI_CPUFREQ.

I have blacklisted this module and suspect that it should be
blacklisted by default. It seems possible that Debian bug #563941 is
related to this issue as well, but there's not enough info in the
report for me to be sure.

Thanks,
Ross

Package: linux-headers-2.6.18-1-mckinley
Version: 2.6.18-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

When trying to compile external modules on Debian's 2.6.18 kernel (and
.17 too, and maybe others) on IA64/McKinley ItaniumII, the Makefile in
arch/ia64/ misses some scripts:

make -C /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1-mckinley/ M=$PWD
/bin/sh:
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1-mckinley/arch/ia64/scripts/toolchain-flags: No
such file or directory
/bin/sh:
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1-mckinley/arch/ia64/scripts/check-gas: No such
file or directory
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1-mckinley'
  CC [M] /home/bgoglin/test/test.o
[...]

The "script/" link in the 2.6.18-1-mckinley's headers looks fine:
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1-mckinley/arch/ia64/scripts
-> ../../../linux-headers-2.6.18-1/arch/ia64/scripts
But the destination does not exists in
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1/arch/ia64/.

toolchain-flags is used by arch/ia64/Makefile to define CPPFLAGS, which
looks pretty important to me. check-gas checks whether gas is recent
enough, which looks pretty important too. I tried to copy those missing
scripts from the kernel source into linux-headers-2.6.18-1/arch/ia64/scripts,
but I get some other warnings then:

make -C /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1-mckinley/ M=$PWD
gcc-4.1:
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1-mckinley/arch/ia64/scripts/check-segrel.S: No

/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1-mckinley/arch/ia64/scripts/check-text-align.S:

readelf: Error: '/tmp/out19575': No such file

/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1-mckinley/arch/ia64/scripts/check-gas: line

Copying the entire arch/ia64/scripts/ directory from a source tree seems
to fix all the issues. So I guess one package should bring this directory,
either linux-headers or the linux-kbuild.

Thanks,
Brice

Bug#582637: [linux-2.6] Please enable CONFIG_VGA_SWITCHEROO

2010-05-29 Thread Daniele Benucci
As promised I checked too, using xorg and radeon drivers currently from sid
(the version of the server packages is the same of the packages in testing,
while the driver's version is not --used 6.13.0-2--), kms enabled (it's the
default for radeon), and can confirm it works without problems here too.

I also tried to switch the cards "on-the-fly" (= with Xorg running) echoing
"DIS" and "IGD" instead of the "delayed" equivalents DDIS and DIGD (that
perform the switch when shutting down Xorg) to check if using them could
lead to breakage: no problems in this case too, as the echoed option is
ignored

System is an Asus M51Ta, with ati+ati hybrid graphics.

Hi,
The next release of Debian (6.0, code name Squeeze) will be based
on 2.6.32. Please test the current 2.6.32 from unstable/testing and tell
us whether the kernel works without workarounds. If not, we should
report it upstream to the kernel.org developers.

The 2.6.32 kernel is available from packages.debian.org and can
be installed in both Debian stable, testing and unstable
installations.

Thanks,
Moritz

Package: linux-image-2.6-686
Version: 2.6.26+17+lenny1
Severity: important

I've been experiencing periodic kernel panics since I upgraded to the
Lenny kernel (from a backports 2.6.25) which was stable on the the same
machine.

The panics seem to happen every 2 days or so if I don't have a serial
console attached and rather longer possibly every 4 to 8 days if I do.
However this is only based on a couple of datapoints so may be
spurious. I have to have a serial console attached to see the
panic text at all.

/proc/cpuinfo identifies the processors as

processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 15
model : 2
model name : Intel(R) XEON(TM) CPU 2.00GHz
stepping: 4
cpu MHz : 1995.167
cache size : 512 KB

There are two processors in the machine and hyperthreading is switched
off.

The bios appears to be an HP specific one which dmidecode identifies as

Handle 0x, DMI type 0, 20 bytes
BIOS Information
Vendor: Phoenix Technologies Ltd.
Version: IU.W1.16US
Release Date: 03/04/2003

I believe the chipset to be an Intel i860 on an HP custom motherboard.

The panic is:

Bug#535450: Booting sometimes stops at T42p

2010-05-29 Thread sasha mal
I don't have T42p any more, thus cannot do experiments with it that would
confirm or deny the bug presence in other configurations.

Bug#583686: Kernel exceptions in ext3/journal subsystem

2010-05-29 Thread Christoph Egger
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-13
Severity: important

Hi!

Running sbuild with lvm snapshots seems to hang and the kernel
is spitting out error messages. Seems it is having some trouble! Unfortunately
I'm no kernel expert so if you need something please ask.

Regards

Christoph

Bug#582275: ext3 filesystem corruption on md RAID1 device

2010-05-29 Thread Buehl, Reiner
Hi,

I have an unused PATA controller on the mainboard - unfortunately I do not have
two SATA-to-PATA converters. Do you think that connecting the two disks to the
PATA controller is a good option? If so, I would have to buy to adapters.

Is there a way to fix the current file system problem with the original setup
first since repeated FSCKs always seem to return errors for the same area again
and again?

Best regards,
Reiner.

Is this "pairing" any different from the pairing we do with devices that
are automounted through gvfs?

Bonus question is, can you use ipheth on the iPod touch/iPad through its
WiFi, or is it only outgoing 3G?

Cheers
