Bug#593549: linux-image-2.6-686: Missing driver to SD card for toshiba m30

2010-08-19 Thread yellowprotoss
Package: linux-image-2.6-686
Version: 2.6.32+28
Severity: normal

Dear Sir,

I would like to affect a notice regarding a missing driver for the computer
toshiba m30. The driver for SD card is unfortunately not seen by debian.
Visibly dmesg returns nothign once one try to slot in/out the SD card into the
SD reader.

I can provide you these specifications:
http://www.uni-koblenz.de/~tenshi/tosh/

As displayed it is said that LINUX has not yet managed to find out the item. I
can provide you some more info anytime.

Please if the bug is not suited to linux-image, please affect it to the right
package into the collection of deb that exist for linux, you certainly have an
amazing experience with linux to know how these are bound to the kernel.

I wish you a pleasant day, and hoping that this little drop can contribute to
linux for better linux. Thank you very much for developing for LINUX community.

Good day,
Sincerely
Yellow

Agreed. And in the absence of any specific alternatives I plan to commit
the pvhvm drivers shortly.

NACK. Not with manual modifications of pvops. It will be replaced as
needed.

OK, what would you like me to do instead?

Shall I just checkin the pvhvm drivers part, which will break the build
until pvops.patch is updated or maybe I should temporarily disable the
xen flavour?

Otherwise how can I update pvops.patch in a way which is acceptable to
you?

Which upstream? The DRM people are upstream for AGP. I doubt that they
even got there.

Someone have to explain them to the release team. As they are clearly
not even remotely suitable for upstream, I'm not going to stretch the
own rules further.

Thanks, but which branch? xen/stable-2.6.32.x?

What is the left hand side (i.e. the base Debian featureset=none side)
of the diff?

Should I just commit debian/builds/source to a tree and then diff
against Jeremy's tree? Or do I use v2.6.32.19?

Doesn't this risk reverting bits of newer stable releases if the Debian
kernel gets ahead of xen.git?

> Except for the currently reverted part, but that is easy.

Well, it's error prone to expect anyone who want to update the base
kernel to figure out exactly what you did...

So I tried (the two SHA1 are identified in the pvops.patch header):
$ git reset --hard 69a73fa4836d0d701dbff7d0de3294b96583a4cf
$ git revert -m 1 bcf16b6b4f34fb40a7aaf637947c7d3bce0be671
$ git diff v2.6.32.19..HEAD

and this seemed to give me a patch a little bit like, but not close
enough to be useful, to the current pvops.patch. If I attempt to
run ./debian/rules source using this patch to replace the existing one
(without none of the pvhvm stuff included) then I get:

So I then fixed up pvops.patch by hand to resolve the above issues. The
tree resulting from this had loads of differences from the tree before I
tried to original tree using the original pvops.patch.

I then tried
$ git diff v2.6.32.17..HEAD

The base is the upstream tag, v2.6.32.19 or so.

Thats a different problem and was nonexistant before the last update.

Got me a patch which, once I trivially removed the hunks which already
exist in the Debian base, was pretty close to the existing pvops.patch:
 arch/x86/xen/enlighten.c|4
 arch/x86/xen/time.c |6 +-
 drivers/xen/blktap/device.c |   17 +
 drivers/xen/blktap/sysfs.c  |2 +-

The arch ones look related to something going into 2.6.32.x but I can't
figure out where the blktap ones are coming from.

$ git reset --hard 69a73fa4836d0d701dbff7d0de3294b96583a4cf
$ git merge 16938b03e75e70e214d053c527bc937ee8ca838a # xen/xen/next
$ git revert -m 1 bcf16b6b4f34fb40a7aaf637947c7d3bce0be671
$ git diff v2.6.32.17..HEAD

Then trivially adjust those hunks conflict with the base kernel, gets me
a kernel which precisely matches the existing tree!

So I guess I should rebase the PVHVM patches on v2.6.32.17 and the diff
against that, which should produce the right thing.

So...

$ git checkout -b pvhvm-2.6.32.19 v2.6.32.19
$ git pull git://xenbits.xensource.com/people/ianc/linux-2.6.git
debian/squeeze/pvhvm

Gives me the base tree for the diff

$ git checkout -b squeeze 69a73fa4836d0d701dbff7d0de3294b96583a4cf
$ git merge 16938b03e75e70e214d053c527bc937ee8ca838a # xen/xen/next
$ git revert -m 1 bcf16b6b4f34fb40a7aaf637947c7d3bce0be671
$ git merge v2.6.32.19

Gives me the target pvops tree.

Then I regenerate pvops.patch with:

$ git diff pvhvm-2.6.32.19..squeeze

The diff of source_amd64_xen before and after adding the pvhvm patches
is then tiny (see below) and results from merging v2.6.32.19 myself
instead of just rebasing the pvops patch to e.g.
e73f4955a821f850f5b88c32d12a81714523a95f. I don't really want to mixup
the rebase and the addition of pvhvm into one commit so should I instead
do the rebase first and then do pvhvm?

Rebasing would also remove the two "git merge" from the above.

Ian.

The difference is part of my manual changes to resolve the conflict between
the previous version of pvops.patch and 2.6.32.19. It should be harmless
to revert these two hunks.

Hi Alex. I have not yet obtained a workaround for this and bluetooth is still
broken for me.

You could try building a kernel from the latest kernel sources from kernel.org.
If you do achieve success with this, please let me know.

I will probably wait now until a newer kernel becomes available in Sid before I
retest. I will eventually be switching to a source based build, so that I can
deal with issues like this on the fly.

Mark.

I can confirm that issues that has been reported to the xen-devel list
were only with specific cards like ATI and another brand that I cannot
recall. These cards drivers are playing too much with memory mapping,
which creates issues.

Rebasing to e73f4955a821f850f5b88c32d12a81714523a95f simplifies the
patch regeneration to just:

$ git checkout -b debian-base v2.6.32.19

$ git checkout -b debian-pvops e73f4955a821f850f5b88c32d12a81714523a95f
$ git revert -m 1 bcf16b6b4f34fb40a7aaf637947c7d3bce0be671

$ git diff debian-base..debian-pvops

And adds a sinlge (trivial looking) new changeset (d541da "pvops: make
pte_flags() go via pvops").

Therefore I have committed this and a subsequent update to add the pvhvm
driver.

Ian.
