After the introduction of subsequent patches this one was removed from the mainline kernel as it was causing other problems. It is still present as a Debian patch for 2.6.32 -- after removing it, I see the issues from bug #520468 that are still present get solved. Bug#601823: marked as done (Root on LVM on Raid1 won't boot custom kernel, stock kernel works fine)

I installed a Squeeze system on an LVM sitting on a Linux softraid 1 array. I have a seperate boot partition that I finally put on a raid as well, but also tested the following when the boot partition was still on a "normal" partition on the first disk. The stock kernel boots fine, but I wanted to build my own kernel. I build it using make-kpkg --uc --us --bzimage --initrd kernel_image. All necessary kernel options are set correctly (checked that four times) for both initramfs, dm and raid. But still the kernel doesn't boot into root. It drops right into busybox when it tries to access root. It even says it mounts the "other" raid (the one that boot is now sitting on). Don't know if this is the right place, but in the past I have build a lot of kernels and installed lots of systems on softraid. Now on Squeeze it won't work in combination (softraid and my own kernel). Maybe you will be able to reproduce this one easily. I use AMD64 architecture btw. I confirmed that initramfs is working, because it is loading a bunch of modules for the network and block devices. Error message is: mdadm: No devices listed in conf file were found. Failure: failed to assemble all arrays And it does load the raid1 modules right above that error message. append="rootdelay=10" also didn't help. Thx, Malte --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- On Sat, Oct 30, 2010 at 02:55:05AM +0200, bugrep...@2c2.de wrote: > Package: initramfs-tools > Version: 0.98.5 > Severity: wishlist > > Hi there, > > this is most likely not a bug, but rather an error on my part, but I > thought you might be interested in this. Please ask on relevant user or dev mailinglist for help. As not reproducible by official image this is not a bug, also hard to tell without the custum .config. Please try to work from the working one and minimise changes with it. > I installed a Squeeze system on > an LVM sitting on a Linux softraid 1 array. Bug#601885: linux-image-2.6.36-trunk-686: problem detecting usb external gadgets
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.36-1~experimental.1 Severity: important Tags: upstream This is a Sony netbook vgn-p19vn, up to -and included- linux-image-2.6.32 usb external gadgets work as expected -external mouse, memory sticks, etc...- are detected after plugin them. Since 2.6.33 and up to 2.6.36 (included) external gadgets are not detected after plugin or unplugin them (there's no line in /var/log/syslog indicating these kind of events). On curious thing is that if I power on the machine with an external mouse pluged, it is recognised and works, but if I unplug it and I plug it again it doesn't work anymore. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 2.6.36-trunk-686 (Debian 2.6.36-1~experimental.1) (m...@stro.at) (gcc version 4.4.5 20100902 (prerelease) (Debian 4.4.4-13) ) #1 SMP Thu Oct 28 14:08:39 UTC 2010 ** Command line: root=/dev/mapper/Debian-root ro all_generic_ide quiet vga=0x368 elevator=noop splash ** Tainted: W (512) * Taint on warning. ** Kernel log: [5.468272] pci_hotplug: PCI Hot Plug PCI Core version: 0.5 [5.586466] shpchp: Standard Hot Plug PCI Controller Driver version: 0.4 [5.627853] ACPI: acpi_idle registered with cpuidle [5.702029] ACPI: AC Adapter [AC] (on-line) [5.748238] Monitor-Mwait will be used to enter C-1 state [5.760379] ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT0] (battery present) [5.794709] Monitor-Mwait will be used to enter C-2 state [5.827493] Monitor-Mwait will be used to enter C-3 state [5.862660] Monitor-Mwait will be used to enter C-3 state [5.862690] Marking TSC unstable due to TSC halts in idle [5.894668] Switching to clocksource hpet [6.022653] sony-laptop: Sony Programmable IO Control Driver v0.6. Bug#601723: linux-image-2.6.32-5-686: /proc/net/dev report incorrect bytes number (both TX and RX)
On Fri, 2010-10-29 at 11:20 +0200, Vincent-Xavier JUMEL wrote: > Yes, here's a copy of /proc/net/dev > > Inter-| Receive| Transmit > face |bytespackets errs drop fifo frame compressed multicast|bytes > packets errs drop fifo colls carrier compressed > lo: 39347 427000 0 0 039347 > 427000 0 0 0 > eth0:4118428167 559277053000 0 0 0 > 3253821981 359669720000 0 0 0 The problem is that network device statistics are limited to the native word size i.e. 32 bits on i386. Linux 2.6.36 allows drivers to provide 64-bit statistics all architectures, but this has not yet been implemented for all drivers. If you want to get accurate statistics then you need to run a monitoring program which will poll these statistics often enough that it can detect wrap-around. With a link speed of 1 Gbit/s the byte counter can wrap around after about 35 seconds. Xen dom0 (core) merged to upstream Linux 2.6.37 and other new features
Hello, People here might be interested to know that Xen pvops dom0 core was merged to upstream Linux kernel during the 2.6.37 merge window! This has been in the works for a long time, so it's good news. Note that this is the core/initial merge, there's more upstreaming needed to get for example the Xen dom0 backend drivers merged to be able to run other domains using the upstream kernel. Xen developers are working on upstreaming more of the missing bits in the next Linux versions. Recently in addition to the Xen dom0 bits there has been other upstreamed features aswell: - Xen PV-on-HVM drivers for fully virtualized (HVM) Linux guests in 2.6.36, and optimizations for the drivers in 2.6.37. - Xen PCI front driver in Linux 2.6.37 for PCI passthru to Xen PV guests (works also with hardware where VT-d/IOMMU is not available). There will also be a git kernel tree based on 2.6.37 with the backend drivers and other not-yet-upstreamed patches included. -- Pasi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#601732: xserver-xorg-video-intel: render error upon S3 wakeup
> Reassigning to the kernel source package for now; I guess it would be > good to confirm you're having the issue with the kernel shipped in > experimental… I pretty much am running that kernel. I compiled 2.6.36 by taking the config file from the linux-image-2.6.36-rc6 package in experimental, then doing yes "" | make oldconfig and building the 2.6.36 package. How can one tell whether the bug is in xserver-xorg-video-intel or in the kernel? -Sanjoy -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
