Bug#638607: nfs-common: configuration file /etc/idmapd.conf could have better defaults
Package: nfs-common Version: 1:1.2.4-1 Severity: wishlist User: debian-...@lists.debian.org Usertags: debian-edu Hi, the line: Domain = localdomain in /etc/idmapd.conf has to be modified to make kerberized NFS work. >From the manpage of rpc.idmapd: -d domain [...] By default, domain is set to be the FQDN of the host, minus the hostname. It follows that having the "Domain = localdomain"-line commented by default would make a lot of setups work OOTB. Bug#638609: linux-image-2.6.32-5-openvz-amd64: [openvz] iptables: "raw" table gets leaked to guests, causing checkpoint/restore errors
Package: linux-image-2.6.32-5-openvz-amd64 Version: 2.6.32-35 Severity: normal When using OpenVZ the iptables "raw" table gets leaked to containers. This is problematic when using OpenVZs checkpointing feature since every restore of a container invokes iptables-restore in the container with the set of rules which existed during the checkpoint process. If a container was checkpointed with the "raw" table visible and the kernel of the hardware node/CT0 doesn't have iptable_raw loaded anymore the iptables-restore in the container will fail, causing the restore to abort. This will manifest in the dreaded and non-descript error: Error: undump failed: Invalid argument Restoring failed: Error: iptables-restore exited with 2 Error: Most probably some iptables modules are not loaded Error: rst_restore_net: -22 You can find a demonstration of this behavior at http://nopaste.narf.at/show/778/. The "raw" table should be completely hidden in containers to prevent such problems, even more so because it's not even allowed within containers; OpenVZ only allows the "filter" and "mangle" tables to be used within containers. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.2 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-openvz-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Unfortunately, not completely. OTOH, I get more reproducible problems when attempting to use the PATA cdrom. > Trace left unsnipped for the kernel team's benefit. Well, that kernel does not come from the package, it's a vanilla one with some changes - the VIA VT6415 chipset on my motherboard prevents the system to boot when a HD is connected to it, with the libata driver, so I'm using the old one. Maybe there was a regression in via82cxxx I did not notice before. Bug#638631: Crash following repeated 'page allocation failure' & 'BUG: soft lockup'
Package: linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae Version: 3.0.0-1 My sid KVM guest crashed yesterday. The emulated screen was blank and did not respond to any input. The kernel log is full of messages as shown below. They almost all name the same executable, apache_accesses (from package munin-node) and have the same backtraces, but are different PIDs (it is not a long-running process). The exception is a "BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 35s!" message, also below. The guest is a news server, with around a kilobyte/second of network traffic going into it at all times. The guest has 512MB RAM assigned. It has a gigabyte of swap available and doesn't seem to have been using much of it. The host is running 64-bit squeeze. ttfn/rjk Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899450] apache_accesses: page allocation failure: order:1, mode:0x20 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899456] Pid: 456, comm: apache_accesses Not tainted 3.0.0-1-686-pae #1 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899458] Call Trace: Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899469] [] ? warn_alloc_failed+0xb4/0xc2 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899472] [] ? __alloc_pages_nodemask+0x57e/0x5e0 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899478] [] ? cache_alloc+0x281/0x44f Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899481] [] ? kmem_cache_alloc+0x2b/0x93 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899486] [] ? sk_prot_alloc+0x23/0xf7 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899488] [] ? sk_clone+0x15/0x273 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899492] [] ? inet_csk_clone+0xc/0x81 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899496] [] ? tcp_create_openreq_child+0x19/0x3da Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899499] [] ? tcp_v4_syn_recv_sock+0x31/0x1bb Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899503] [] ? tcp_v6_syn_recv_sock+0x33/0x3fb Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899506] [] ? tcp_parse_options+0x187/0x21c Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899509] [] ? tcp_check_req+0x1e1/0x297 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899512] [] ? inet_csk_search_req+0x21/0x77 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899514] [] ? tcp_v4_do_rcv+0x19e/0x289 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899517] [] ? tcp_v4_rcv+0x389/0x571 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899521] [] ? pvclock_clocksource_read+0xc4/0xf6 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899525] [] ? ip_local_deliver_finish+0x104/0x1a0 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899529] [] ? xfrm4_policy_check.clone.10+0x45/0x45 Aug 18 14:30:00 deodand kernel: [1547640.899531] [] ? Package: linux-2.6 Version: 3.0.0-2 Tags: upstream, patch, fixed-upstream Hello, The transmit function for VC-MUX routed encapsulation wrongly strips an ethernet header from IP packets, but there is no ethernet header so it actually truncates the IP header. The bug was introduced in Linux 2.6.26. It was fixed upstream in Linux 3.1-rc1 and 3.0.3 by the following patch which has been added to the 2.6.32-longterm queue and will hopefully be included in the next 2.6.32.46 release. Please fix Linux 2.6.32 in Squeeze/stable. The bug also exists in Linux 2.6.26 in Lenny/oldstable but the br2684ctl package in Lenny/oldstable does not support routed mode. Does using a mixer work? Could you attach dmesg output from the working kernel? There have been some fixes for the VT1708 driver recently, so if you get a chance to test v3.1-rc2 or later, that would be very helpful ([1] explains how). Hope that helps, Jonathan [1] http://kernel-handbook.alioth.debian.org/ch-common-tasks.html#s-kernel-org-package -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#637284: Can't install wheezy on a 2011 iMac
Hi all -- I'm back now, so I'll be available to try anything that anybody suggests. It would be good to get this sorted out. In case there's an issue with the keyboard and/or USB, the install process doesn't seem to recognise the USB keyboard, but when I accept the default generic keyboard, the install proceeds normally. I'll paste a dump of the USB hardware below, in case it's relevant. Cheers, Mike. Bug#637284: Can't install wheezy on a 2011 iMac
Hi Jonathan, ... What kernel version do you use? Do you still have to blacklist the radeon module to get as far as you do in booting up? I've used both 2.6.xx (maybe 39?) and 3.0 and got the same results. Yes, I do have to blacklist radeon, under both kernels. I think this might be a separate issue. The other problem you mentioned (/sbin/getty not starting) is not yet phrased as a kernel bug, so I'm not sure how to move forward on tracking it down. Is it possible to retrieve logs (like /var/log/kern.log, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/installer) from the system that fails to boot? OK - I think I can do a rescue mode boot and get into a shell, so I'll see if I can get these files -- and also /etc/inittab. I'll probably have to mount my external drive so I have somewhere to copy them to. I'm going to be a bit busy in the next day or two but I'll do this when I can get to it.
