Bug#800085: linux-image-4.1.0-2-armmp: The ethernet fails to come up on my Allwinner A10 device.

2015-09-26 Thread Gianluca Renzi
Sorry but I don't agree with you. Supposing the allwinner A10 device need some
voltage regulator drivers to be enabled in the kernel to have some devices in a
working state, this not hurts some other devices that have some other
configuration setting different in hardware layout. They are defined in the
device tree for this particular machine, vendor or somewhere else. So the
drivers for the regulator can be safely inserted into the A10 Debian kernel and
you will don't break down anything.

2015-09-26 Thread jnqnfe
Package: linux-image-4.2.0-1-amd64
Version: 4.2.1
Severity: normal

Running kernel 4.2.1 on Sid, dmesg informs me that it failed to load
firmware radeon\TAHITI_vce.bin. Kernel bug report #101441 [1] suggests
that the error is due to the firmware file simply being missing.

None of the extra modules that were enabled as a 'solution' have
anything to do with this hardware (or any real hardware). So I don't
think we have a real solution.

Please send the boot log from Linux 4.1 (or 4.2, which just landed in
unstable).

Ben.

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Attempted to install the mainline Debian kernel for the first time on this
system.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
The ethernet did not come up.

The problem seems to be outlined and solved here:
http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.hardware.netbook.arm.sunxi/17147

It would seem that an additional module needs to be included for it to work
correctly.

I've reverted the kernel to the 3.16 kernel I compiled.

As of several hours ago this is now included in the media-tree[1], as
per request for 4.4[2].

It would be *amazing* if this can be backported to debian's stable 3.16,
to make the C920 usable again with jessie stock kernels.

Package: src:linux
Version: 3.16.7-ckt11-1
Severity: important

Using Debian 3.16.7-ckt4-3 and a simple test case, we were able to reproduce a
kernel bug in msync system call.

The test case does the following:
1) create a 1MB file and mmap it
2) in a loop, select a 4k page in that file randomly, write with memset, then
run msync on that area in a thread

The problem was first seen in debian 3.12, and also reproduced with debian 3.16
and 4.1.0 kernels. Debian 3.2 was fine.
Vanilla kernels do not seem to be affected.

In fact the crash happens in vma_do_fput which comes with aufs4-mmap.patch

For unknown (stupid) reasons, flush_workqueue symbol has been declared
as GPL only. There is a pending fix in the kernel git, please
cherry-pick it. The resolution blocks #796372.

commit 1dadafa86a779884f14a6e7a3ddde1a57b0a0a65
Author: Tim Gardner
Date: Tue Aug 4 11:26:04 2015 -0600

workqueue: Make flush_workqueue() available again to non GPL modules

Commit 37b1ef31a568fc02e53587620226e5f3c66454c8 ("workqueue: move
flush_scheduled_work() to workqueue.h") moved the exported non GPL
flush_scheduled_work() from a function to an inline wrapper.
Unfortunately, it directly calls flush_workqueue() which is a GPL function.
This has the effect of changing the licensing requirement for this function
and makes it unavailable to non GPL modules.

See commit ad7b1f841f8a54c6d61ff181451f55b68175e15a ("workqueue: Make
schedule_work() available again to non GPL modules") for precedent.

any one try to make vga passthrough work with new kernel(4.1.6 but not 4.3) under igfx+nvidia?

2015-09-26 Thread Cong Zhang
Hello all,

I try to make VGA pass through works, but always failed.
I try to manually apply the patch from https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/5/9/517
, it seems the code struct has changed, the the patch does not work as
expect!
I can make KVM+OVFM work, but for legacy mode, my Nvidia card never
successful pass through to vm.

  something out of expect:
  1. As expect, drm should disable, but glxinfo show direct rendering is yes
  2. disable_vga_mem was called, but no effect

  dome dmesg output:
