Bug#715211: [src:linux] Ethernent connect is lost after few minutes, only reboot can recover system.

2016-01-19 Thread Abou Al Montacir
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.3.0-1

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi maintainer,

I think I'm experiencing this same issue or a very similar one.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 5500 with a RTL NIC:
# lspci
...
07:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E
PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 07)
...

Some times, or shall I say often, my Ethernet connection is lost. When this
happens I can not recover it unless I reboot my laptop.
Some times this happens at a moment you don't want to reboot because of pending
work.
I tried several tricks like unloading the driver and then reloading it bit this
did not help.
When this issue happens I have the following messages:
# dmesg -c

As per the above discussion, would it be possible to have the patch comment the
code, rather than delete it, so that people with a need for the serial port
could activate it? Maybe also add a note in the /usr/share/doc/ as to how to
perform the activation.

As long as both are possible, my own preference would be to have the MMC be
default and the serial port be optional. But YMMV.

I'll be more than happy to test any changes...

Thanks!

aufs upstream released[1] a patch for aufs4 - I *think* this[2] is the
one (for Linux 4.1.13+).

As far as I can see there is no aufs3 update (and in any case aufs3
upstream doesn't seem to be think that 3.16.x is supported[3]), but
this might be enough to allow you to look at a fix for this regression
in jessie?

Thanks,
Dominic.

Hi Julien,
Its local, without NFS! (rootfs ext2, mounted without acl, xattr, etc )
Furthermore, if a user created the link, other users can't follow it,
other users can follow only, if created by root.

Ok,
how can I disable it, can it be configured in /sys ?
Can't find it in any manpage. It should be documented somewhere!
It is helpful for nfs (or other remote access), but not local. If root
already, there's no difference.

I say best would be a mount-option.

Which is documented in Documentation/sysctl/fs.txt

Ah, right. That is the "protected symlinks" hardening feature.

Actually, this patch is an attempt at a fix. After looking more
carefully at your log pictures, I realized what the problem must be.

It's too bad nobody was able to capture a log where the error
occurred in sr_runtime_suspend, though -- all the logs in the bug
report show sd_runtime_resume.

I think I understand the problem. Could you try the packages (version
0.122~a.test) from https://people.debian.org/~benh/packages/ ?

The patch is below.

Ben.

---
Subject: [PATCH initramfs-tools] init: Validate the real init after devtmpfs
is mounted under the real root

Currently 'run-init -n' will fail if there's no static /dev/console on
the real root. We have to run it after udev's init-bottom script has
moved /dev to ${rootmnt}/dev.

Bug#811597: FTBFS with GCC 6: statement indented as if it were guarded by

2016-01-19 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: linux-tools
Version: 4.3.1-2
Severity: important
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-6 gcc-6-misleading-indentation

This package fails to build with GCC 6. GCC 6 has not been released
yet, but it's expected that GCC 6 will become the default compiler for
stretch.

Note that only the first error is reported; there might be more. You
can find a snapshot of GCC 6 in experimental. To build with GCC 6,
you can set CC=gcc-6 CXX=g++-6 explicitly.

that indeed fixed it for me. I applied your patch on

Severity: wishlist

Hey,

In current debian kernels CONFIG_GPIO_SYSFS is only set for ARM kernels. This
options allows userspace to directly tinker with GPIO (if they're not bound
by a driver). Which is quite useful on development boards with GPIO extension
headers to tinker with electronics without having to write a full kernel
driver.

With the appearance of embedded/development based on Intel chips like e.g.
the Minnowboard, this is also useful on x86/amd64. (Actually if you use
some of the Minnowboard howto's/tutorials it's the suggested way for playing
with GPIO there).

So as the subject says, please enable CONFIG_GPIO_SYSFS on at least the x86
architectures as well. Though it might be useful to generally enable it (e.g.
at least mips has some devboards as well, probably others too).

That's showing you the /dev/console in the initramfs. However, run-
init will open it from the 'real' root filesystem.

At the recovery shell prompt, what does "ls -l /root/dev/console" show?

FYI

The patches go into the kernel source tree. What goes into
/usr/share/doc is up to the distribution, and i'm not aware of any
mechanism of kernel documentation getting placed in there in Debian.

Possible you better bet for documentation is to suggest some text for:

Yours is only slighly similar to Paul's. He got an error in
sr_runtime_suspend, but your error occurs in sd_resume -- a completely
different function in a different source file.

I can't tell what's going wrong without some real debugging. This
means somebody has to build and test a patched kernel. There are no
problems on my computer, so it will have to be one or more of you guys.

if I remember correctly, it happened it different places for me too. In
the backlog you should see, that Ben gave me a patch to try and then it
wasn’t triggered as it failed somewhere else.
