Bug#886743: virtualbox-dkms now requires package libelf-dev to work

2018-01-12 Thread Awtul
Package: linux-headers-4.14.0-3-amd64
Version: 4.14.12-2
Followup-For: Bug #886743

Dear Maintainer(s),

I just wanted to confirm this bug and say that when I execute
"VBoxManage clonehd --format RAW Debian-Sid-amd64-2.vdi Debian-Sid-amd64-2.raw"
I get the following:
"WARNING: The character device /dev/vboxdrv does not exist.
Please install the virtualbox-dkms package and the appropriate
 headers, most likely linux-headers-amd64.

You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.

at line 179 of file VBoxManageDisk.cpp".

"apt-get install --reinstall virtualbox virtualbox-dkms virtualbox-qt" fails
and in /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox/5.2.4/build/make.log I see
"DKMS make.log for virtualbox-5.2.4 for kernel 4.14.0-3-amd64 (x86_64)

I am replying to myself: in fact, after a few days of using kernel 4.14.0

but not crash-free yet (still using the same theme with lots of
transparency effects).

Bug#887008: linux-image-4.9.0-5-amd64: Virtualbox time sync gone haywire after host kernel upgraded from 4.9.0-4-amd64 to 4.9.0-5-amd64

2018-01-12 Thread jtg
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.9.65-3+deb9u2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

After upgrading the kernel from 4.9.0-4-amd64 to 4.9.0-5-amd64, the
the clocks of the two virtualbox guests started to run considrably
slower then normal, loosing serveral minutes per day.

One of the virtual machines is running Ubuntu 12.04.5, with kernel
3.2.0-126-generic-pae, the other Debian 9.3, with kernel 4.9.0-4-amd64
or 4.9.0-5-amd64 (tried both, no difference).

Downgrading the host kernel to 4.9.0-4-amd64 eliminated the problem.

I have the following virtualbox packages installed:

 virtualbox 5.1.30-dfsg-1~bpo9+1
 virtualbox-dkms 5.1.30-dfsg-1~bpo9+1
