Bug#882380: initramfs-tools: Update-initramfs can take an unnecessarily long time if other disk activity is ongoing

I think this is a good idea, and it would also avoid upgrade problems
such as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1667512
in the case of things like stuck NFS mounts.

To avoid backport surprises, I would suggest adding a dependency on
coreutils (>= 8.24), which introduced the feature of sync(1) being used
here.

I've put all this in a merge request:

Bug#897589: 897589:linux-image-4.17.0-rc3-amd64-unsigned: uvcvideo doesn't work, spams boot console

2018-06-21 Thread Reinhard Karcher
Hi,

I just compiled and tested 4.18.0-rc1 from kernel.org and the bug is there no
longer. So we have to wait for 4.18.0 reaching Debian.

Bug#897589: [REGRESSION] Re: linux-image-4.17.0-rc3-amd64-unsigned: uvcvideo doesn't work, spams boot console

2018-06-21 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.17.2-1~exp1
Followup-For: Bug #897589

Hi.

As with the previous bug report, I am getting loads and loads of uvcvideo
error messages on a Broadwell notebook (Dell 5548).

I updated the kernel to 4.17 as soon as there were some versions in
experimental to rule out some problems with kernel 4.1{5,6} simply freezing
on this notebook out of the blue, but I soon encountered this problem with:

* linux-image-4.17.0-rc7-amd64-unsigned
* linux-image-4.17.0-trunk-amd64-unsigned

I am now using 4.17.0-trunk-amd64 and I just tested that I can use the
webcam (did a quick test with guvcview and I could see myself on the
camera).

Still, it seems to slow down the boot of the system considerably (pending
confirmation here).

Since the problem remains from the -rc7 era, I guess that this is not a
"new" problem.

As a last point, I tried to take a "vanilla" 4.17-rc7 kernel from Ubuntu's
"mainline" repository, but it seems to depend upon a package that I don't
have on my system (or that Debian lags with respect to Ubuntu).

Anyway, if any extra information is needed, please let me know.

Thanks,

Rogério Brito.

Your messages show that the proprietary nvidia driver is responsible,
re-assigning.
