Bug#908924: dma_direct_map_sg: overflow on USB access after upgrade to kernel 4.18

2018-09-15 Thread Nemo Inis
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.18.6-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Plugged my Kobo eReader's USB plug into a machine just upgraded from kernel
4.17 (4.17.17-1) to 4.18 (4.18.6-1), and got 112,738,316 kernel messages in the
the system log:

kernel: ehci-pci :00:1a.7: dma_direct_map_sg: overflow
0x000216f3c000+4096 of device mask

Downgrading to 4.17 fixes this.

Relevant lspci output:

00:1a.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB2 EHCI
Controller #2 (rev 02) (prog-if 20 [EHCI])
Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd 82801I (ICH9 Family) USB2 EHCI
Controller
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18
Memory at fb204000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2
Kernel driver in use: ehci-pci

Yes, let's do this. I would be happy to meet for up to an hour with a
defined agenda. Can you set up a poll for when people are available,
and an etherpad or other shared document for the agenda?

Ben.

I hit this problem too. The current versions of virt-manager, libvirt,
etc. in unstable do work. But I recognise that this is still a kernel
bug that needs to be fixed (particularly for stretch-backports).

We did it once before and it caused a regression (bug #880471). So,
before we enable it again someone will need to investigate and check
that the regression won't happen again.

Bug#742619: linux: Please reenable CONFIG_SCSI_PROC_FS

2018-09-15 Thread Mi

Please re-consider the "wontfix" decision.

This makes it impossible to use LTO tape drives on Debian, and it forced
me to install CentOS on the machine controlling the tape loader, when
all my other Linux machines are Debian.
