It was set as such a long time ago when we enabled the option:

I suspect the idea was to make it possible for users to use this new
feature, but only as a opt-in, while it was still very fresh.

Maybe Ben remembers.

But I guess we could drop the Debian specific patch.

Requesting CONFIG_PINCTRL_METEORLAKE

Hi team,


Can I please request that you compile kernels with CONFIG_PINCTRL_METEORLAKE 
enabled as module like all the other PINCTRL ones?
This is needed on new generation Intel Ultra CPUs to enable i2c devices 
properly.

Currently I need to recompile the kernel just because of this (I’m running sid 
6.7.9 kernel at the time of writing). I’d rather have the stock kernel have 
this.
