Bug#432475: linux-image-2.6.21-2-686: Got page allocation failure. order:0 messages in syslog
Package: linux-image-2.6.21-2-686 Version: 2.6.21-5 Severity: important We arre using MySQL in a master-slave configuration. The master and slave maschine are running nearly the same packages. After a few days of uptime (1.5 upto 3.5 days) we see the following messages in syslog on MySQL slave: Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: mysqld: page allocation failure. order:0, mode:0x20 these messages are sporadic. When getting the MySQL master-salve getting back in sync and just restart MySQL (no reboot) it takes the above mentioned time and we see nearly the same messages. At the time of page allocation failure an massive table update on master is finished and replication is heavily working on slave. With package linux-image-2.6.21-1-686 (Version 2.6.21-4). We never see such page allocation failure messages in syslog. More complete syslog entries: Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: mysqld: page allocation failure. order:0, mode:0x20 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c015126f] __alloc_pages+0x283/0x294 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c0164623] cache_alloc_refill+0x271/0x466 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c025e4f9] ip_rcv+0x40c/0x445 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c0164878] __kmalloc+0x60/0x77 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c023e948] __alloc_skb+0x49/0xf7 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c023efa8] __netdev_alloc_skb+0x1c/0x35 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [e084c152] e100_rx_alloc_skb+0x19/0x80 [e100] Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [e084e714] e100_poll+0x1ac/0x2ac [e100] Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [e084e7ef] e100_poll+0x287/0x2ac [e100] Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c0243fc9] net_rx_action+0x9d/0x1aa Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c0126102] __do_softirq+0x66/0xcc Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c01261ab] do_softirq+0x43/0x51 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c012640f] irq_exit+0x38/0x6b Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c010648b] do_IRQ+0x5a/0x6f Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c012642a] irq_exit+0x53/0x6b Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c0114bc2] smp_apic_timer_interrupt+0x71/0x7d Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c010475f] common_interrupt+0x23/0x28 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: === Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: Mem-info: Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: DMA per-cpu: Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: CPU0: Hot: hi:0, btch: 1 usd: 0 Cold: hi:0, btch: 1 usd: 0 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: Normal per-cpu: Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: CPU0: Hot: hi: 186, btch: 31 usd: 30 Cold: hi: 62, btch: 15 usd: 50 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: Active:54074 inactive:63199 dirty:3460 writeback:0 unstable:0 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: free:753 slab:9085 mapped:5423 pagetables:275 bounce:0 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: DMA free:2000kB min:88kB low:108kB high:132kB active:3264kB inactive:7124kB present:16256kB pages_scanned:0 all_unreclaimable? no Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: lowmem_reserve[]: 0 492 492 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: Normal free:1012kB min:2792kB low:3488kB high:4188kB active:213032kB inactive:245672kB present:503876kB pages_scanned:0 all_unreclaimable? no Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: lowmem_reserve[]: 0 0 0 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: DMA: 0*4kB 0*8kB 1*16kB 0*32kB 1*64kB 1*128kB 1*256kB 1*512kB 1*1024kB 0*2048kB 0*4096kB = 2000kB Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: Normal: 1*4kB 0*8kB 0*16kB 1*32kB 1*64kB 1*128kB 1*256kB 1*512kB 0*1024kB 0*2048kB 0*4096kB = 996kB Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: Swap cache: add 725395, delete 713706, find 538004/581881, race 0+0 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: Free swap = 4793740kB Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: Total swap = 4883720kB Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: Free swap: 4793740kB Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: 131056 pages of RAM Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: 0 pages of HIGHMEM Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: 1910 reserved pages Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: 52970 pages shared Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: 11689 pages swap cached Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: 3460 pages dirty Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: 0 pages writeback Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: 5423 pages mapped Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: 9085 pages slab Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: 275 pages pagetables Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: mysqld: page allocation failure. order:0, mode:0x20 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c015126f] __alloc_pages+0x283/0x294 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c0164623] cache_alloc_refill+0x271/0x466 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c025e4f9] ip_rcv+0x40c/0x445 Jul 4 06:01:07 pcew80.atlas.de kernel: [c0164878] __kmalloc+0x60/0x77 Jul 4 06:01:07
