Package: linux-2.6 Version: 3.2.12-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer,
I recently updated my home server from squeeze to wheezy, in order to get the most out of my vdr and possibly able to record hdtv channels. Kernel had to be updated to 3.2-series because there is a newer api for vdr. At first I noticed that NFS performance is low when tried to access this server, and any serious reading attempt leads nfsd consuming all the available cpu time. Later it became obvious that the local filesystem is to blame, it behaves like there is no DMA. However... sudo hdparm -i /dev/sda /dev/sda: Model=WDC WD5000AACS-00G8B1, FwRev=05.04C05, SerialNo=WD-WCAUK0320827 Config={ HardSect NotMFM HdSw>15uSec SpinMotCtl Fixed DTR>5Mbs FmtGapReq } RawCHS=16383/16/63, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=50 BuffType=unknown, BuffSize=16384kB, MaxMultSect=16, MultSect=16 CurCHS=16383/16/63, CurSects=16514064, LBA=yes, LBAsects=976773168 IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:120,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120} PIO modes: pio0 pio3 pio4 DMA modes: mdma0 mdma1 mdma2 UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 udma2 udma3 udma4 udma5 *udma6 AdvancedPM=no WriteCache=enabled Drive conforms to: Unspecified: ATA/ATAPI-1,2,3,4,5,6,7 * signifies the current active mode sudo hdparm -i /dev/sdb /dev/sdb: Model=WDC WD5000AAKS-00YGA0, FwRev=12.01C02, SerialNo=WD-WMAS80005202 Config={ HardSect NotMFM HdSw>15uSec SpinMotCtl Fixed DTR>5Mbs FmtGapReq } RawCHS=16383/16/63, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=50 BuffType=unknown, BuffSize=16384kB, MaxMultSect=16, MultSect=16 CurCHS=16383/16/63, CurSects=16514064, LBA=yes, LBAsects=976773168 IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:120,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120} PIO modes: pio0 pio3 pio4 DMA modes: mdma0 mdma1 mdma2 UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 udma2 udma3 udma4 udma5 *udma6 AdvancedPM=no WriteCache=enabled Drive conforms to: Unspecified: ATA/ATAPI-1,2,3,4,5,6,7 * signifies the current active mode So, it is a mirrored root-raid setup. Already tried adding ide0=noprobe and ide1=noprobe, and changed sata setup in the bios from "auto" to "enhanced", with no noticeable difference in the performance.
